Just to let everyone know, to make the chhurpi really hard you leave it to dry for 10+ days. You can even smoke it over a fire. Also I forget if it was mentioned, but skim or 1% milk works best, as fat in the milk will make the cheese softer. This seems like a good recipe though, thank you :)

My apologies for asking but would you mind clarifying which step you mean with drying? Is this between the boards when it’s being pressed or do you mean when it’s in the dehydrator it needs to be left for 10+ days? I’m about to try this myself so I’m still new haha

@@brittenythomas8879 I *think* they were referring to the drying method that does not make use of the dehydrator. Which by the way would be equivalent to just leaving the chews a bit longer in the dehydrator I guess.

Made this recipie 4 times now. My dog could chew through steel (I'm pretty sure). So I want to make the thicker chew. At 3:02 ther is a thinner and thicket version of the chew. The thicker version is what I'm looking for. Not once have I been able to press the cheese like that. I've used skim milk and whole milk. I'm not sure why the video chew is so orange. Pressing the chew with a 5 gallon jug of water seemed to make a harder chew but leaving it to air dry for a week seemed to make a much harder chew (due to evaporation/water loss). When pressing how to get the thicker chew and have the center NOT BE SOFT?!?!??! Do I bake them longer? Dry them longer? Roast them? I don't want to pay $22 USD for these chews from the Himalayan Dog chew company. 1 gallon of skim milk will make 1 large chew as depicted in the video.

Probably dry them longer. The thicker it is the longer to dry.

I purchased a tofu press. It gives me thickness, and the length of the ones I purchase from the store. It makes 3 large chews. I’m struggling with hardness. I had I them in a dehydrator hard on the outside but still soft in the middle. So I’m going to try baking and letting sit for a lot longer to see if that helps.

Made this and my dog absolutely loved it - but it wasn't a very long lasting chew. The way I shaped/cut made 3 fairly thick chews, which was about the size I would normally buy at the store. However, they didn't last longer than about 6 minutes each. The ones I buy from the store are usually much longer. They appeared to be fully dry - is there a reason it might not have taken her long or a way to make these a longer chew?

Can I just skip some steps and start out with cottage cheese or ricotta? I'm lazy.

Did you try it with premade cottage/ricotta cheese? While watching the video, I realized the beginning cheese recipe is the same as the cottage cheese recipe I made a few months ago, although I used whole milk. It was delicious but yeah, I'm a bit lazy and busy so think your idea is a great one!

Awesome video, I wondered how these were made. My Situation: 1 gallon of milk makes 3 chews according to the video. In Hawaii, 1 gallon of skim milk is 5.59 and the lemon or lime is negligible. Let's say $6 total. That still comes out at $2 per chew which is the same price as Amazon. What makes it worth the extra work? It doesnt seem worth it to me in this situation.

Hi I tried five times with 3.25%milk& silk milk individually. After I heated collected cheese in the oven/air fryer/dehydrator, they all dried with lots of air inside, the dog just eat them in one minutes. How could we harden them like a real yak chew in the film? Thank you very much!

@@claireemptage3028 those minerals are in a very low %. @KingBruceLee
@KingBruceLee 4 года назад
Skim milk=tougher. Use 0% for hard chewers, lasts longer and will have darker yellowish color. More fat will make the bone crumble more, for smaller dogs and lighter chewers.
