Gosh. I'm sooo lucky to have found you and your videos. Himiways assembly instructions (as you know) weren't great. Only way I got my bike together. I'm getting the upgrades slowly now. I'm 6'6 and the handle bar situation is rough with stock parts. Seats were ok. But looking forward to these upgrades. Thank you so much for sharing these videos!!

I did have a wobbly fork because I didn't tighten the long bolt enough. I was so scared of overtightened.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
Yes, you need to tighten it until the slop is gone, but stop before the rotation of the handlebars is inhibited. Then tighten done the side bolts to lock it in.

It looks really good, great job and thanks for sharing. Have you thought about putting the KD718 display on it to unleash a little bit more speed ? Nice bike, safe summer riding 👍
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
Thanks for the comment. I have been looking at the new display, but not really for the speed increase. I usually set my speed limiter to 20mph so I don’t inadvertently exceed that on our bike paths. My wife and I usually ride between 14 and 18mph. I do think it would be instructive to do a video on it, so it may be in my future. 😁

@@TinkeringTurtle That would be super. I'm in the UK and I've got one of these on the way. They are powered down here to a top speed of 15.5 mph for road use which most of us think is a bit crazy slow. Still there's plenty of off road use where I can take her out safely in the mid - high 20's mph. Thanks again, I'm pleased to have found your channel. What was the advantage of thumb throttle over twist ? Sorry I missed that. Cheers
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
The throttle question, in my mind, comes down purely to preference. As a kid I rode ATV three wheelers, which had a thumb throttle. So I have that preference. Some go the other way and prefer the twist throttles. While there is no right answer, I think it is nice for people to realize that it can be changed for $10-$15. The question I would have about the new display is, do they limit the displays that ship to the UK too? Or do they send everyone the same upgraded display?
@moonshotsilver
@moonshotsilver Год назад
@@TinkeringTurtle So my KD718 arrived in the UK and it will take the bike to 32mph in peddle assist mode but as I imagine too much of that will burn out controllers and hubs. So I'll be happy at much lower speeds but it's good to know the speed is there if needed for short bursts in the right conditions. The throttle is still limited as I thought it would be. This actually keeps it legal here anyway. From new my brake light didn't work so I'm currently trying to figure out where the fault is, both front and rear lights turn on and off fine. Cheers

I just followed the link to Amazon and the riser is available. But if it doesn’t work for you, it is a 70mm tall riser that fits bikes with a 1 1/8” threadless stem. You should be able to search for one.

Tim, do you advise getting the Suntour NCX suspension seat post and the Cloud9 seat with springs? I weigh 158 lbs, 6' tall 62 years old, and have had 4 back surgeries. The hard tail bike and factory seat leaves much to be desired.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 9 месяцев назад
The Suntour NCX suspension seat post is a “must have” for me. It is, by far, the most important upgrade that I have made to my bikes. If you find you can’t adjust it soft enough, there is a lighter weight spring available that is for 140lbs or less. But the standard spring should work perfectly for you. I also like the Cloud9, although I’m not certain that the springs do all that much for making the ride softer. I have tried another big wide seat and I definitely prefer the cloud9 over it. I have tried both cloud9’s (with and without springs) they are really nice. These are two items I always upgrade on my bikes!

@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
I searched thru the settings and tried a couple changes. They did not work. I’m sorry but I don’t have any changes for you. I think Himiway set it up this way for safety. The delay reduces the amount of accidental throttle hits that leave the rider crashing on the ground. And the slow start is easier on older riders. sry I could not help more…

@@TinkeringTurtle thanks alot for looking into this for me. Im 65 and how the motor stays on after you stop pedaling is where i find the delay to be a problem. I know if you hit the brakes it cuts off. My cruiser has no delay. Trying to get my wifes Bigdog to run like my cruiser. Dont know why himiway did this but i find it a safety issue for us. Thanks again. Bob

So, I purchased the extender for the handlebar stem and followed your exact instructions, including removing one of the spacers. My issue is, the handlebars and the tire are not tight. That is, if I go to the front of the bike and put the front tire between my legs, I can easily turn the handlebars so they are misaligned. This happened to me when riding. I have everything very tight. I was actually concerned that I was too tight and might strip the bolts and nuts. Any suggestion as to what I should do, as the current scenario is dangerous.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
The top bolt sets the tension, and the side bolts lock everything down. So I would check the side bolts.
@Verolinens
@Verolinens Год назад
@@TinkeringTurtle Thanks. The side bolts are very tight. I did this on 2 bikes with the same result.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
I’m not certain what to suggest then. If all 4 side bolts are tight, I have no idea why anything would shift. Maybe take a marker and mark both sides of each joint and see if you can figure out where it is moving.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
I honestly don’t know what could be happening. I am not seeing this issue on any of the bikes I have upgraded. There are two side bolts on the stem and two more on the riser. If both sets are tight then my only idea is that you ended up with the wrong size components. This seems extremely unlikely as these are very standard sized parts. My only further suggestion, once you have checked all four side bolts, is to take it to a bike mechanic and see if they can help you figure out what is wrong. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful, but diagnosing issues like this remotely based on a symptom is very difficult.
@Verolinens

@@TinkeringTurtle As I ponder this and review your video again, I am using the fallen wrenches that came with the bike. They are quite small. Possibly they do not have enough leverage. I will try and tighten them with a larger, longer Allen wrench.

Hello. how do you change the throttle speed of the Himiway ? it is set here as standard at 6 km/h
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
The 6 km/h is the “walk speed”, this is when you hold down the “-“ button and walk beside the bike. The throttle on the Zebra I had went much faster. As far as I know you can’t change that setting. And I don’t know of a setting that adjust the throttle speed in general. You would have to reach out to support and see if they have any insight.
@derk6619
@derk6619 Год назад
@@TinkeringTurtle thank you for the response. I have seen a fragment on youtube that the 6 km / h mode can be switched off and that it then reaches the maximum set speed (LS). I just can't find this fragment. but thanks anyway. yours sincerely.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Год назад
I still think you’re conflating two different settings. The LS setting is the speed setting and has a range of “Speed limit range is 12Km/h to 40Km/h”. The 6km/h setting you refer to, I believe, is the setting that governs the “walk mode” speed. I don’t know if it will help, but here is a link to the manual. The “LS” setting is on page 11, and the walk mode setting is on page 7. www.manualslib.com/manual/1270512/Key-Disp-Kd51c-U.html?page=7#manual
