The Mother arrives at the wedding. Marshalls meets Lily first time after taking up the judge position. Ted punches "The Devil" Darren right in the face. Ted tastes the first drink The Mother ever bought him.
Tracy was so damn pretty and amicable. The suckup writers just had to kill her off to unite Ted and Robin. Tracy atleast deserve some more screen time.
It's completely fine that Tracy dies, honestly. That's life and it sucks and sometimes you just kind of get dealt that shit hand. It's pretty terrible writing that they A) didn't actually end the show when they met (under the umbrella conversation) or B) didn't dedicate the final season to her actually building relationships with the rest of gang leading up to the proposal. That would have been a fantastic season 9. What pisses so many people off is they did neither of those things, betrayed 5+ seasons of character development for 60% of the cast, had 99% of the final season take place over 3 days and the last 1% takes place after a 25 year time skip.
even if it was an accident, you can tell that he enjoyed it, when he said "sorry mi amigos" to Ted, you can see that he was smiling. like he was proud of himself for upsetting someone without even trying.
This scene, this scene especially is one of the reasons why I hate the ending and loving and tracy and ted more , the first drink that tracy bought was the finest and ted giving the knockout punch that tracy has been waiting
@the lavinator What about the alternate ending? After the backlash, they still made it, so no matter what medium it's on it can still be considered canon. It explicitly states that Tracy is alive and happy. And Robin and Barney do still get divorced, but share a smile at Ted and Tracy's wedding as Future Ted says "Things fall apart, things get put together", so it's at least hinted they could get back together
@chic-fil-ashouldopenonsund3623 It's the best we've got for now at least. I wouldn't call it shit per se, they worked with what they had to rightly satisfy us fans. At least it's better than the original 🤮 All that was missing was actually seeing Bob Saget (or whoever would play Future Ted aside from Radnor) and the kids. I don't even care if they were recast, anything is better than Ted & Robin again...
2:14 I do love that Marshall, the guy who went to law school, is the only one who doesn’t cheer when he sees a battery. I like to imagine he’s thinking “shit, Ted just committed an unjustified battery”
He also never met that guy so he didn't know how slimy and obnoxious he was. He totally deserved it, but marshall just sees a random guy taking a punch for no reason because he just got there.
Wow, I never noticed this before. Such a small detail, but its genius. This is why this show is so great! Every rewatch I find these little details and its basically a brilliant show.
@@profchaos91 Exactly. He's looking worried and confused about why Ted would flip like that, it's kinda out of character without the context, and even more so with the pleased cheering coming from the rest of the gang. If he knew, or had been a victim of that skunk's chaos, he'd probably react differently. Even just knowing he's the guy who stole Tracy's band would lead to an excited Marshall
This was such a great way to end their midseason finale before the winter break when it was still airing. Say what you want about the final season, but the writers mixed creative situations and emotional beats with satisfying moments like these.
The final season was great in many ways - i hated the lilly and marshal meltdown - but everything else was great and than the actual final came - bullshit
@@alphabetsoup6837 Yeah. When I binged the show, the first 6 seasons were amazing while seasons 7-9 are nothing too special. But out of the bad/meh ones, season 9 was great because a lot of stuff happened in just 3 days and if the finale was a bit different, it would be better.
Love it when Marshall got confused and understandable he never met him! He deserved because dropping a bottle of alcohol is expensive and I understand he punched him
The way Ted waited so long to try that scotch. And the person that got it for him was the love of his life, and he didn’t even know that in this moment. I love Ted and Tracy are interconnected in each others lives through the seasons they just never knew
Ted never asked about the 35-year. The whole time he was so focused on the 30-year that he never discovered the 35-year waiting for him. Ted was so focused on Robin for so long that it took him 9 years to meet Tracy, his soulmate, waiting for him.
@Sinister1986 Not in the alternate ending. They still made it, no matter what medium it's on, so viewers can decide it to be canon and prefer it over the aired ending.
„And that kids is he first drink your mother ever bought me.“ Black screen, credits roll, the end. AND IT STILL WOULDVE BEEN A BETTER ENDING THAN THE ACTUAL ONE
It always kills me how brilliantly they handled finally revealing the mythical Mother with the introduction of Tracy. We got one full episode of Tracy, in which we learned who she was and that she was amazing, and then several scenes scattered throughout the season that just made us more invested. By the time she and Ted met, she wasn’t just a rando, and her getting with Ted seemed perfect. …and then the producers killed her off to make room for a relationship that stopped making narrative sense six seasons ago, thus turning her back into a plot device and cheapening her relationship with Ted.
I like how after the punch Ted's friends are all excited and/or cheering *except* Marshall who looks concerned and confused edit: Lily, Barney, Robin: hahaha awesome Marshall: uhhh wtf
The reason i like the series ending is even though tracy is perfect the whole reason her introduction and depature feel so quick for the viewer is that is how it felt for ted, everything was too short and he wanted more time with her but thats not how life works. Ted ending up with robin isnt the writers trying to settle all the cast into their orginal characters but isntead giving ted closoure and even though tracey was perfect and ted loved her sometimes you have to move on even though its hard. And with robin and barney the show explained it, they loved each other but because they were so similar, both had attachment issues and couldnt accpet sacrufice for the other. Robins story ends with her ideal ending of accomplishing what she wanted but also ending up with someone she loved now they are both in the right head space. Barneys ending had hime with his daughter, a person he could actually change for and someone who could never leave him, the thing he really feared, as exemplified with how he acts with his dad, his brother datinga nd getting married and robin wanting to pursue her career not neccsarily with him. As such him ending up a single dad with a daighter who he loved and never wanted to leave was in reality a great ending for barney and he even states this. The story of himym isnt about life being perfect and all events syncing up exactly so you get the perfect life but its instead about life being a complete mess you have limited control over and all you really have are a couple of moments yoh can really change and the rest of the time you just have to sit around and enjoy the ride while it lasts. As much as i love tracy and ted and i love times in my past, the past is gone and i dont know whats gonna happen in the future so as master oogway says today is a blessing thats why its called the present and im going to unwrap my gift!❤
It is the writers trying to settle the cast in their original characters, at least Ted. It's not giving him closure, it's just him relapsing into what he was at the start of the series. It's undoing so much of the character development he went through, and just shits on the entire relationship with Tracy. He didn't move on, he moved backwards.
Forgot this scene entirely. reminds me of this anime I'm watching called quintessential quintuplets which i find an anime version of himym. this ted and tracy destiny thing reminds me very much of 2 certain characters on quintessential quintuplets, though i can't say to avoid spoilers
We got robbed of a good season 9, where every episode was like this one. Jason Segel had already notified (well in advance!) he wasn't available, shooting another project. Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas time and time again said they had the story wrapped in 7 seasons tops. But yeah, all that sweet CBS-money... They sold out, they extended it beyond reasonable fun and it went out like a candle.
Love how the two pilots walk into a bar and neither of them can bother crossing the road to help the dumb handicap kids who are smarter, they have teachers, we have no mates and only scarce means.
OMGG WHYYYY DID THEY KILL TRACY OFF??? IF THEY CUT SLACK ON THE SCENES TED WAS DROOLING OVER ROBIN, THAT WOULD HAVE SHOWN HOW TED IS OVER ROBIN AND TRACY AND TEDS FIRST IMPRESSION WAS PERFECT!!! WHY DID THEY KILL HER??? I'M SO SAD AND ANGRY UGHHSGSGDSFH
They ruined this show when they had Barney and robin keep breaking up lol. Especially after Ted gets married and that’s when robin and Barney break up it’s like robin broke up with Barney just cause Ted got married and she wanted Ted now like calm down why did they make robin a home wrecking whore? Lol
Only on this rewatch did I realize how horrible of a person Ted is. He tried getting with women who were about to be married, not once, twice...including when it was one of his best friends (Barney) getting married to his other friend (Robin). He spent the entire last season proving how selfish and narcissistic he was. At least Marshall finally confronted Lilly in season 9 about her leaving in season 1/2. "How do I know I and baby Marvin aren't a consolation prize? What if you found love in San Fransisco?" He had a point that the audience overlooks, Lilly left Marshall voluntarily, and he is the 'consolation prize' because she wanted to find out if she was worth more than she was when she was with him. He wasn't good enough in season 1/2, he's still not good enough, and staying with her is what we'd call "simping" now.
