But what makes the show that special, in my opinion, is that they didn't over emphasize the chemistry between them, it just happened and it just makes sense. That's why himym, in some ways, is not an usual love story.

Exactly. They underestimated how Cristin Milioti's performance would win our hearts. The on-again-off-again from Ted and Robin just didn't work. In my opinion, Robin's character seriously started to decrease in favor for me while Tracy's shot up! Maybe it's due to character fatigue and a fresh face donned the screen but Ted and Tracy were just too cute to ignore. If they continued on for a couple more seasons the ending might have worked instead of all the random flashforwards that are REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS TOO! The biggest being the lackluster ending due to a season's worth for the wedding and sloppy rebound.

I like the series for their seasons and their content in great comic memories that by the end, someone has realized that if Robin is the protagonist of the final mean THAT WAS ALL THE SERIES? and here's a better question: ROBIN IS REALLY TOP AS CHARACTER A TED, THE MOTHER OR GROUP? I think not ... If Robin was like a mother and a mother (perhaps as Victoria and best and Zoey), STILL is understandable, but it was not, I think the writers or directors thought it would be a series more 3-4 seasons and had that end, then when they were in the decade being the level of Friends did not have the guts to change the ending ...

The fact that she's dead makes it so much stronger! Like he stopped telling the story to his kids for a second, and just enjoyed remembering her.

I used to hate season 9 until I realized how brilliant it was. The writers of the show did something spectacular with season 9, but lets start with seasons 1-8. As someone who as watched and re-watched the show, I can say that it goes by so quickly. All those episodes, all those years just went by in a hurry and I miss them. That is exactly how Ted feels. He has so many relationships that almost every single viewer can relate to at least one of them. People feel for Ted. They feel how quickly those years go by, and then comes Barney and Robin's wedding. A entire season devoted to a couple of days. Why would the writers do this? Why not incorporate other things? Why keep all these characters locked away in an inn when you want to see one final hoorah? The answer is so simple, yet so packed full of emotion. Season 9 drags on for the viewer just like the wedding does for Ted. That was the longest weekend of his life, and the writers make the viewer feel that. You feel the dread of the show ending- similar to the dread Ted feels with moving on to Chicago. You feel his sadness, you feel his anxiety, you are put in the shoes of Ted Mosby, which is why the shows powerful ending is so heartbreaking and sad. Ted and the viewer wait so long to meet the mother, especially in season 9 when that is all you want- it's all he wanted too. Only two episodes show Ted and Tracy together, that's not enough! Again, the years Ted spent with Tracy is all put into two episodes because that's how it felt to him. It was the best time of his life, and it was all over that fast. Just like that it was gone. Although heartbreaking, season 9 was spectacular from a writing stand point. To be able to get the viewer to feel all those real emotions is just incredible. This show changes how people view love, especially towards the end.

Soooo, you bring up an interesting point, and don't get me wrong here, I totally agree and think Robin doesn't deserve Ted. But what if I told you that there is a blog about Teds Robins and Barneys. Why robin kept ted in her orbit, why ted has a sickening "the one" feeling for her, and why bays and Thomas made that massacre of a finale?

I haven’t reached One Billion viewings, but I have watched the entire series 4 times all the way through. The problem with watching it again... none of the jokes hit well enough to make me laugh, because I know all of them already. So the greatest romantic sitcom ever starts getting more and more depressing each time you watch the whole series. The quality of the show is still incredible though. And yes, “HIMYM” is Better than “Friends”. Periodt.

Some people just try to stay with good stuff that happened in their life. But they don't realise that you don't have to do it, you just have to move on and deal with it because that's how life works.

witchorking Just need to remind yourself that the alternate ending is the real ending and everything will be just fine. Because the final episode, even when you hate it, have that part when they are standing in the rain together. "Funny how sometimes you just find things". One of the most heartwarming line EVER. You can't just ignore that beautiful line.

I'm so glad somebody is finally mentioning Barney. I mean "life isn't always predictable" story is nice and all but with the alternate ending everyone gets what he deserves. Ted has always believed in true love and has fought for it. He deserves to win that. Tracy deserves to live a long life because she's absolutely awesome,Robin deserves to experience that true love exists and Barney deserves to finally win the game, find peace and summit to someone. Sorry,that was long but I just needed to say that. My opinion.

Annie J It's definately true.Remember when Barney said "our wedding will be legendary" and when Robin asked him about this "legen-wait for it-dary" thing ,he said that he had her and there was nothing to wait for.Everyone is waiting for something,searching something,hoping that one day they will feel completed and just happy.Barney admited he was too far gone and broken,he wasn't happy until that day he was with Robin.We should hope that one day we will feel completed and our searching will be over.

But I can't shake this feeling, that we belong together." When Barney repeated after Robin, word for word; not knowing that's what Robin felt for him, I knew they were meant for each other. The Ted and Robin ending is completely unrealistic.
