Hindi: The National language of India? | But Why 

There are a couple of things which are not correct: 1. Hindustani is not a mixture of Urdu and Hindi but parent of these 2 languages. This language got split in 1850a during the Hindi Urdu controversy when the british wanted to make local languages as official language and in north India Hindustani was written in Devanagari by Hindus and nastaliq by Muslims which later on became Hindi and Urdu 2. Bangladesh didn’t separate because of Urdu. Bengali and Urdu both functioned as Pakistan’s national language from 1956 onwards and that issue got settled. Bangladesh separated due to socio economic injustice meted to east Pakistan between 1947-71 which resulted in Awami league calling for their 6 points which practically meant virtual separation of east from west which resulted in political deadlock of 1971 and subsequent independence of Bangladesh

Liberty to choose their language should not be questioned. Just this don't force anything by enacting a law. sir i am from Telangana one of the reason Telangana separated from Andhra Pradesh is because of dialect,both states speak Telugu but both state have different dialects, Telangana people did not accept Andhra telugu dialect,how do people from North think they will accept another language.

As someone who speaks my mother tongue(sino - tibetian) which is not the state language, it difficult as my mother tongue is native to the region but not the majority speaking language.

Rich people's children are learning German, Spanish, French as third language in top private schools where they already have excellent command on English.

I’m from Uttarakhand and lived there for 3 years in Covid time. Uttarakhand has 3 major native language Garhwali, Kumauni and jaunsari But State language is Hindi. Problem with promoting hindi is that it is always at the expense of other languages. I lived in Ranikhet, it was so sad and painful to see young kids not speaking in Kumauni (native language) but Hindi. They can’t speak Kumauni at all though they can understand As per Indian Govt, Kumauni is just a dialect of Hindi. However as per linguist kumauni is part of Western Himalaya same as Nepali Same has happened to Marwari,Bagri, Bhojpuri, Saraiki, Maithili, Garhwali etc All grouped together as Dialect of Hindi just to increase Hindi percentage BTW मेरी मातृभाषा हिन्दी है दिल्ली में परवरिश होने के कारण

I am from Tamilnadu and I have completed 8 exams in Hindi upto Praveen Uthrath in Hindi in my 8th grade itself and got the certificate as well.They say it is equal to a Undergraduate level.😂 But after that I never spoke Hindi , didn't watch Bollywood movies which I am not a big fan of as present Kollywood movies are good enough for my liking. Hindi and Urdu are same languages with different scripts. Hindi is not our national language and will never be. We will accept only English as a link language. For people of Karnataka, Kannada is our national language and is considered as supreme in our state. We will respect all the languages but will not accept any forceful use of any language. One should keep in mind that we were a separate kingdom with our own rich language and culture and joining Indian union we are not going to kill it.

I don't think Hindi imposition is the result of hatred or superiority complex toward regional languages but insecurity of coloniser's or elite class language as a link language in India. You believe it or not but despite Hindi not being actual mother tongue of many it's intelligible to Gujrati, Marathi, Bengali, etc. but Hindi is not intelligible to Dravidian languages so, there is basically no point of learnings it untill necessary. Many people say use Sanskrit but it's not intelligible to Dravidian language either way. North Indians themselves don't speak proper Hindi, mix 75% English into that, so better focus over there. Also if people want the other guy to learn Hindi then it should be done in mutual way. Learn Tamil it has its legacy in south east asia and other places and have a very long history without much interference of invaders from outside. It's most probably the only language which wasn't influenced by either Sanskrit or Hindi/Urdu.

Hello everyone, There should be no National language concept in India...but to connect with people around India we need one common language. I am not in the favour of English because it's not our language, so we can choose Hindi or some other language but it should not be forceful on the people specially in southern states...we should have some common agreement on that. Blocking Hindi in south India is pure political move and it shows short sightedness of south Indian politicians, who feel insecure in presence of national parties in Tamilnadu. Apart from UP, MP, Delhi, Rajasthan, Most of Indian states have their own language but their politicians do not feel insecure and that's why they adopted hindi in their education. It helped their people to communicate better to rest of India.

English is seen as the utilitarian language nowadays for better education and better jobs and what not. It enables cross boundary communication in a seamless manner. Can't we figure out a single language for easy inter-state communication? And Hindi being the single largest language with around 42% speakers (no other language comes close, Bengali is at 2nd at around 8%), it is the obvious choice. Again, I'm not talking about imposing a universal language throughout the nation, I'm just talking about learning a language for easy communication.

We need one common language so that any Bharteey can go anywhere in Bharat and can communicate with ease. Hindi is closest to this as majorly people understand it and largest share of population can speak it. That doesn't mean state language must go. Like Maharashtra has Marathi as state language, but anyone who knows Hindi can be at ease here. Now southern states here needlessly argue that why not northern states who have Hindi as state language adopt southern language. The thing is, they don't need it. Those who come to stay in South must learn the local language. Why will northern people need it. It's not like "we learn so you learn as well" keep bigger picture in mind that they already have state and national wide language common. They can instead learn sanskrit as third language if they desire to. Issue with southern states is that they don't want any one common southern language either. So why not let those states keep their state language and adapt one common language Hindi which will not only connect the southern states with each other but also connect them to whole country with ease.
