Here are some interesting things to note about the hidden beacons: - *A hidden beacon will replace one of the regular time pods on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th islands.* For example - if a standard time pod appears during a mission on the 2nd island, then a hidden beacon will not spawn on any of the other 2nd island missions. - *A beacon will only spawn on maps with mountain and/or ice tiles.* - *No more than one hidden beacon will spawn during a timeline.* - *Hidden beacons will NOT spawn during your first 3 timelines on a new profile.* I'm not sure if you have to beat 3 timelines before beacons show up, or merely play 3 timelines. This still needs to be verified. - *Beacons have a 1 in 6 chance of replacing a standard pod, assuming the map contains a mountain/ice tile.* Here are the odds of finding a hidden beacon if you play optimally: - 2 island run: 16.67% chance - 3 island run: 42.13% chance - 4 island run: 59.81% chance The chance of a beacon replacing a time pod is exactly the same regardless of whether it's the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th island. However, since 2 pods spawn on the 3rd and 4th island, the chances of finding a beacon on them are higher. Here is how to optimize the odds of finding a beacon. On the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th island, only play missions that contain mountains and/or ice tiles until you either find a beacon or until all possible pods have spawned on that island. Since beacons replace time pods, it doesn't matter which missions you play if all the time pods for the island have already been spawned. The odds for beacons to replace pods may not exactly be 1 in 6, but this is what tests tend towards. I also did some testing myself and can verify the odds seem accurate.
Definitely had a hidden beacon appear on the switch where I had not won 3 timelines yet, though had played more than 3, so I suspect you just have to go through 3 timelines.
@@artifaxiom Yes, and you can have a space pod open a face you have already unlocked too. Best tip if you are hunting for a missing familiar face is to use one of the ones you have unlocked as your time traveller, as you never find a current squad member in a pod. i.e. if you start with Kaz these pods will only ever have Mafan or Ariadne in these pods.
One would think Mafan is the best fit for the leap mech. But Mafan can't attack forest tiles without catching on fire and almost immediately dying, making him a surprisingly poor pilot for this particular machine! This is where Ariadne shines. The plus 3 health makes up for the lack of regenerating shield (especially if she has +2 HP via promotion), and her fire immunity mitigates one of the leap mech's greatest weaknesses - forest tiles!
I think I ran into that issue maybe once or twice over a number of different runs with the hazardous mechs, as I recall an attack that pops the shield doesn't set the forest alight, so it is less common than you might think.
