Its in my top 5 modern rock songs of all time. Its one of those rare songs that I have never gotten tired of hearing no matter how many times i have listened it.
There is truly not a terrible Breaking Benjamin. They are one of the few bands where you could have an entire playlist of all their songs and not get sick of it. What they have gone through, especially Ben Burnley and how they are still producing quality music is a testimate to how special this band is. Dairy of Jane is a very fitting choice, it's the last song they perform live and with good reason. Personally, my favorite song not only by them but ANY band is Until the End. Doesn't get that much praise than some of their other songs. I see people recommending Animal I Have Become by TDG. Definitely recommended. Adam Gontier and Ben are the best vocalists in modern rock.
He loved the girl so much and was there for her for her whole life, especially when no one else was, and after she died he found her diary and read it. He was nowhere in the diary...One of the hardest songs from my favorite band of all time.
I thought the same, like evanescence, breaking benjamin, within temptation, five finger death punch, they we're all part of my childhood growing up and im only 21 but ive been knowing some of these groups since im like 3 but my dad was a huge metalhead/rock fan so yeah that also helps 😅
You'd be surprise how many people have never heard much metal music. I mean there's 8 billion people on this planet and only millions of fans. How many music artist so you think have close to 1 billion fans?
Joe Thieme when did you say that you think it doesn't classify as metal? I don't see that anywhere on this post. You should probably reread the last comments you made on this post because you never mentioned that genius.
Breaking Benjamin is one of a handful of bands that have never released a single bad or ill written song..their lead singer Benjamin Burnley is dedicated AF and performs full shows even when he has throat problems, no excuses made. They love their fans and are just the best kind of people you can imagine
Welcome to the world of Breaking Benjamin. These guys truly rock out and will never sell out. Even after the huge break they still have their sound we all liked upon first listen. Breaking Benjamin is like wine, gets better with time.
Dr Kirb Kenneth kirby you’re musically ignorant if you think Saturate, and Dear Agony or elevator music albums. You clearly haven’t heard their entire catalogue and especially more than 10sec after the intro of any of their songs aside from their popular tracks if that’s what you think of them. It’s ok to dislike but your description is way off. Not all their songs are heavy. Not everything needs to be heavy to sound good. The subtleness of Breaking Benjamin’s instrumentals is what makes them who they are not counting Ben. Dull? Never heard of that towards any proper band except from the elitists that only follow one genre and think that’s all that’s good..
@Alex Hefner This song is about a guy who was in a relationship with a girl for quite some time and the girl died (suicided I think). After her death he was reading her diary and she wrote about everything there. But there was not a single word about him. Like he never existed. So he's double heart-broken. That's what I heard a long time ago. Don't know if it's true but it fits
maciek turek I used to know a guy when I was growing up in ocean City. He was on heroin. He kept getting clean but going back. Became a born again Christian. I feel like that was the last conversation I had with him. He finally got married. They had a little baby girl. By the time the baby was two, the mother od'd and died. Dad kept having hallucinations over her death. He hung himself in one of the houses across from the newest Wawa gas stations. I'd love to see his diary.
Idk about that.. Going over the lyrics i think it holds water, in both cases.. Like, the guy tries to be the best for his partner, want to learn what gets her ball rolling.. ("Try to find out what makes you tick As I lie down, sore and sick" ) (her), but for her, it's like he never exists ("No love, there is no love Die for anyone What have I become?" , but also in the chorus ) As said, to me it holds water pretty tight tbh
Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine... keep going with this New aged metal its awesome watching you react to these songs keep it up!
I really don't mean to be a jerk, its just none of those bands are "new." They're all over 15 years old. Today, Metal is currently being shaped by bands like Power Trip (Thrash), Gatecreeper (Death Metal), Youth Code (Industrial), Code Orange (Metallic Hardcore), Ho99o9 (Noise Metal), Myrkur (Black Metal), Unleash The Archers (Power Metal), Elder (Doom). Metal is in a real Renaissance, the quality of bands today couldn't be higher and they're breaking the mold in new ways. Most aren't exactly radio friendly tho, either too heavy or their songs are too long. Just want to let you know that there is really dope modern Metal being produced today.
i understand, but the biggest and most popular hard rock/metal bands of the 2000's are the 4 I listed along with Slipknot. In my personal opinion there are no bands currently making music right now that are better than those 5.
@The Dream Catcher, since you're more into mainstream Hard Rock sound than underground Metal you'd probably dig Doom Metal. Doom is groovier and heavier than Hard Rock but keeps the melodic elements. If you want to expand your horizons check out these albums, Elder - Reflections of a Floating World, Mastodon - Once More 'Round The Sun, Pallbearer - Heartless. All three of these albums were featured on multiple best of lists on the years they were released (2016 and 2017) and were critically acclaimed.
I feel like the reason people like these videos is because he is like our friend that we want to show this new song. We’re just like “ pass the aux cord I got you”
More importantly, he watches/listens the entire song, and we dont have to checkup on him, or tell him to 'wait for it! Its coming! You still hearing this?! NOW! ....you ass hat didnt even care for it!"
The dudes girlfriend (I thing his gf) killed herself and he gets her diary but he dosent know why she did it and if he loved her or how he fit in but he starts contemplating it (put myself right beside you) but he starts giving up on the diary (as I burn another page) and tries forgetting it (as I look the other way) he just can’t (I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane) but finally he gives up on the diary and returns it to her in the end as he lays it on her grave. Thats just his side though this video tells 2 storys. I don’t remember everything about her side but the way I always interpreted it is that she feels invisible to everyone around her and doesn’t know her place in the world so she kills herself in her bathtub but she wakes up confused and when she tries looking in the mirror there’s no glass so she starts running around her house trying to find herself but she finally finds where all the mirrors went (also where the band was playing) she can’t see her reflection anymore, she lost herself, finally realizing her fate
Been a long time since I watched this video, but I think you're absolutely right. It's about a guy's loss of his significant other after she died. He's trying to make sense out of it. He's considering killing himself to join her. (If I could, I would lay myself right beside you.) He reads her diary to find his place in it only to find no help. He's frustrated and mad, but decides to move on by burning the diary. I think you pretty much nailed her side of the video.
Notice how in the video, the girl wakes up in a bathtub. She realizes that the bathroom mirror is missing, so she goes around the whole house trying to find herself. The room the band is playing in has all of the mirrors, so she heads to that room, but when she stands in front of it, she can’t see her reflection. The end has the lead singer placing a rose (or something) in a book on tob of a stone slab, and when he walks away from the slab, it’s revealed to have words written on it. This stone slab is her gravestone. She died, whether it was an accidental drowning (hence the bathtub) or a suicide.
@Alex Hefner The reason it's so "catchy" is because they've got deep roots in classical composition. They have a formula that's been used since the time of Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, and other classical masters. That's why it has an almost cinematic feel. They also helped work on the soundtracks for the Xbox games Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. Don't know about the others. But those guitars you hear.... yup.
Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite bands. I’m so glad you reacted to them!! You should react to some other songs by them like Unknown Soldier & Dear Agony!!
Fit For An Autopsy - Black Mammoth Deathcore done right! Incredible song with a big message! Highly recommend checking it out just because of the message! Animals As Leaders - The Brain Dance It’s a 3 man instrumental band, they’re all absolute fantastic musicians! The song is beautiful, would recommend the 7 min version.
Breaking Benjamin is my mostly fav band even they not famous as avenge sevenfold and others..something special about breaking benjamin is they have hard rock instrumentals but it actually relaxing rock..you must hear another song from them such as without you, breath, until the end and more..I subscribed you because you love breaking benjamin song 😊
You're a little late to the party. But so was I. My niece used to let her phone's playlist play. Everytime I'd hear a breaking Benjamin song I'd say who's that? And I was always like damn that sounds good. Finally listened to most of their music and I'm hooked. Saw them live with 5 finger death punch. They are amazing.
Breaking Benjamin: So cold, Red cold river, Blood, Psycho, I will not bow, Failure, angels fall, Never again, Close to heaven, Believe, Polyamorous, Until the end, And breakdown!
Breaking Benjamin is dope af. I've been listening to Polyamorous and Home again recently Fun fact: they make references to Jane in other music videos/songs. For example in Angels Fall there's a boat with a plaque that reads SS Jane. And I think in Breath there's a part of the song where in the background you can hear Ben whispering "Jane, Jane, Jane"
ZeroContentSF right? It's such a random song. TBH maybe Metallica, since they've managed to make a kickass song about a Mark Twain book and 4 songs about HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. But it wouldn't sound the same
To me this song is deeper than the obvious lyrics. I think this song is about someone who wants to be with a woman desperately but not just because he loves her but because she needs help. He wants to be her support and help her through her struggle with depression, but she wouldn’t let him into her life and eventually committed suicide. It’s rather dark when you look at it that way but at the same time this song sounds so dang good I was head-banging while watching your reaction
please do more breaking benjamin, they are the band that got me into metal. some other song you should check out are - psycho - until the end - dance with the devil - red cold river - polyamorous - so cold - Breath (acoustic) - dear agony
That was my first time hearing them too and I've been a metal fan from the womb dude so don't sweat it! lol. I really like their sound though, remind me of several other bands mixed into one. Looking forward to discovering more of their stuff 🤟🏼
Tyler 1123 I've been also requesting chevelle on these reaction channels with not much response. Chevelle rocks. The clincher, well enough alone, letter from a thief, same old trip, and my all time favorite the fad!! The fad is such a badass but overlooked song.
You want FIRE... Oh man Alex, you are about to embark on an incredible journey... Breaking Benjamin is one of the best rock bands of the last 20 years. NOT metal, not nu-metal, but totally KILLER in the writing and production of his own shit, played brilliantly by his bandmates past and present. Ben Burnley is one of the most prolific rock writers and musicians of his time. He was the answer to Creed, Crossfade, Default, Theory of a Deadman, Nickelback, Saliva, etc. By FAR one of my favorite bands during that time of NEED. Listen to all albums before "Dark Before Dawn" and LEARN.
I missed out on Breaking Benjamin as a music fan but saw them live very recently on tour with Disturbed, plus, Jinjer opening. Found out I recognized almost every one of their songs.
😍😍 Breaking Benjamin is amazing try their song I Will Not Bow. Its a deep song. You should also react to All That Remains- Two Weeks. Love watching your channel one of the best parts of my day!
give me a sign, i will not bow, dear agony and others song from other bands: as i lay dying anodyne sea, stand up and fight from turisas, strife trivium, motionless in white - reincarnate and necessary evil (this last one is ft jhonatan davis from korn)
Breaking Benjamin was my re entry band back into the world of rock and metal and was one of my favorites back in high school I listen to BB every now then these days
I’m from pa where breaking Benjamin was formed this band has brought me back from being suicidal their music resonates with everything I have been through
Alex Hefner At the end I see it as he lost his chance to be in her diary since she is no longer around, whether it be moved away or with someone else, dead, or just not able to be around her. something like that anyway. Also by breaking benjamin Blow me away, so cold, sooner or later, Polyamorous
The inspiration for this song is based on true story. The girlfriend of the lead singer committed suicide. When he finally looked through her diary years later, he found that she had been cheating on him. One quote he gave to describe how he felt was "She was a chapter in my life. I was a sentence in her's"
Yeah no that’s not the true story at all. Ben years ago in an interview said the inspiration for the song was about people dying who are unknown “Jane Does” and how no one knew their story or their life and their experiences. But their stories still matter and are important. This is his excerpt from that interview: “Well, I’ll tell you not necessarily what it’s about, but what inspired it because I think that helps explain how it feels for me. It all started because I was watching a lot of Forensic Files stuff where there were a bunch of unsolved mysteries. There was a Jane Doe that washed up on shore and she just got buried with no story. It was like a meaningless person. Nobody knew who she was to the point where whatever she did was all gone. So, Jane references Jane Doe but then making a story up for her because she had nothing. That’s what started it and then once I started writing, it turned into more than that. Our lives are important. Your life is important to you, my life is important to me. We know that somebody is going to remember what we’re all about. This person Jane was just gone because they were unidentified for so long and lived this entire life for nothing.”
All the songs on the radio. Breaking Benjamin has a TON of other good songs not played on the radio. Sugarcoat Evil Angel Follow you Dance with the Devil You fight me Away Hollow Feed the Wolf Psycho
I remember when I first heard this song, I was so blown away. I got so into BB and they are one of my favorite bands still, and this song is still one of my favorite songs ever. I saw them last summer and they put on an awesome show, they did not disappoint and are still killing it today even with the new lineup
Positive reactions to bands/songs I love that are usually criticized make me so happy!! Appreciate your open mind. Have seen BB 4 times live and they're a huge childhood band for me!
