The worst thing about DMB are their fans. Amazing talent - Ants Marching, Crazy, etc. Along the Watchtower live at Central Park is a favorite of mine, even if the intro is a little meh
It's been my lifelong dream to see DMB. I remember being 8 laying on my floor in my room listening to them and just feeling something inside thay moved me . I hope to make the dream come true soon!
People that hate this band just hate them because they reached insane popularity. Their talent is absolutely undeniable, especially in their first three records. Before These Crowded Streets is a masterpiece.
You do realize Dave has fully explained that this song is about a stalking peeping tom obsessed with a random woman he doesn't know, right? lol Its not just horny, its haunting to say the least. lol
Oh My God! I haven't heard this song or this band in FOREVER!! Literally been like over 10 years!! I forgot how much I loved this song and this band!! Thanks for the reminder now if you'll excuse me, I have a DMB rabbit hole to fall down.
You’re magic for taking the time and effort to really appreciate the magic. The percussion alone man! The pristine snare drum and the wood blocks and chime tree, it’s so intricate. Thank you for what you do!
The drummer, Carter Beauford, is one of the most underappreciated drummers by anybody that is not a drummer or someone who enjoys this band. On your own time, you should look him up.
Check out "#41" from the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College. Also "two step" from the "listener supported" live album. Those are both from the same album as this song. Tremendous band.
Since you mentioned Tim R, I have a question. I heard a Tim solo probably 20 years ago. I have no idea the song's name. Towards the end it sounds like he's playing 2 different instruments. You know it's name?
@@jeremythompson5983 I'm honestly not that familiar with Tim's work outside of dave matthews stuff. I know the luther College one has a few solos that sound like he has three hands or at least fifteen fingers.
SO happy you acknowledged the song’s musical complexity! Nowadays, DMB is often disregarded as just another 90s-era “jam band.” Sure, they do some jam-y stuff (especially live), but I think the actual compositions -and subsequent recorded performances- are genuinely impressive (not to mention the hypnotic quality of THAT VOICE!)
"What would you Say" was ALL over Mtv back in the 90s. My favorite still has to be the LIVE performance in Central Park in NYC of "Ants Marching" because of the DRUMMER! - - I'm sure many have already mentioned the Drummer in the comments!
Nostalgia is right! I'm literally crying right now... I grew up with four brothers and literally the only thing that my oldest brother and I did together with it being just him and I was we went to a Dave Matthews concert one summer a couple of months after he graduated. It was in an open field amphitheater it's called The Gorge which is in George, Washington (State, not D.C.). The hill where everyone sits in front of the stage basically goes up so it's like stadium seating and there is quite a lot of greenage being smoked at Dave Matthews concerts if you didn't know haha! It was an awesome concert... Anyway it had pretty much gotten dark there was just a strip of sunset colors on the horizon behind the river and I remember this song started up and I happened to look over at my brother and he was looking at me and I felt like in that moment we really connected for the first time as adults. Our childhood was very chaotic and to be honest I didn't really know him very well up until then. I know that might sound kind of weird and creepy because this particular song is about sex but it wasn't in our minds in that moment it was just us both experiencing pure happiness together. He died of testicular cancer when he was 37 years old.
I go see them every year. Have loved them since my 20s and I am now 48. They put on such an amazing live show. Classic jamming band. It's a whole other level from their albums.
Seen DMB over 30 times. They're even more incredible live... every member is at the height of their instrument's hierarchy. If you like "Crash Into Me", try "The Stone", "You Might Die Trying", "Two Step", "Grey Street", "Shotgun"... I mean, they have just so, so, so, so, so many great songs.
Been following them since 1997! Soooo amazing! Chills EVERY song..The lyrics are amazing and the talent from all their instruments are INSANE..Over 200 shows and never the same show! So glad you did this tonight! I love your videos but this one is soooooo close to home..
Dude you seriously should do the live version of Bartender off the album LIVE IN VEGAS. Tim Reynolds is a guest guitarist. The guitar sound is literally one of the best live sound. Whoever was the sound engineer is amazing
25yrs+ I still get the chills listening to them. You need to definitely listen to more of them for sure and they're unbelievably amazing in concert. U have def discovered a legendary 90s band.
Such a great band, love listening to them when I'm cruising down the highway. Glad you finally checked them out!! :D On a different note, I know it's not hip-hop related but you should do a video reaction for the band called "The Devil Wears Prada or TDWP" You won't be disappointed I promise!! PS. they are of the metal genre.
It was probably their best Single to be sure, but I would rate "Warehouse" "Pay For What You Get" and "Bartender" much higher than "The Space Between."
@@digitalis2977 Ahh, "Warehouse," excellent to see a deeper track connoisseur. I typically list "Grey Street" as my favorite, but "Warehouse" and "Crush" are close behind.
I loved this video and totally agree! Was so cool to see someone experience for the first time. Love this song!!!!! There are covers of this song but no one can sing it so introspectively.
No other band that i can think of other than Zeppelin that blended a different style together SO amazingly well. The mixture of the instruments is insane in EVERYTHING they have done
This song brings back childhood memories!! My mom loved it and reminds me of a time when life was simple and before everything went to shit around me. I miss those days… 🥹
I remember when I heard this song when I was younger the words went right over my head I didn't realize until I was older how dirty this song is. How however it is a really good. song. Dave Matthews voices really nice. The instrumental is quite beautiful.
I went to my first DMB concert in 2010. I have seen him live at least once a year every year senc. Also if you react to Dave again you have to do a live version. That's the only way to listen to DMB!!! Keep it up Alex!
you said it-it has a "magic" this song. I works like a charmer or a siren song. it has an intimacy that songs rarely have I feel. I think this is a stunning performance of a stunning song. it's magic. full-on.
People rave about their live stuff, which is amazing, but I love the studio versions because it shows off every single little nuance of Dave’s musical genius.
I've heard these guys over and over for years, and even though it's not the style of music I listen to personally, I think the amount of hatred they receive is totally undeserved. Their music plays like a symphony and that man has one of the most recognizable voices in music.
DMB are some really talented musicians and I've loved them since maybe '93. I was in a prog metal band back then that did side gigs doing covers and we LOVED playing DMB songs. We got to play wind instruments and stretch out some different chops. I got to see DMB at Bonnaroo 2005 and that was a magical night!
I remember buying the Crash album in '96. f you lived in Charlottesville, VA back in the 1990s, especially if you went to UVA, it was a magical time to be a DMB fan. Ch'ville was where they got their start, and I'll never forget the concert they had at the football stadium.
I became an instant Dave Matthews band listener the day I heard and saw their version of " All along the watchtower " from Woodstock. him standing in a PJ, the music and sea of people.. it was just inspiring.
So you listened to the video version. If you got goosebumps from that edited version, the album version will send you into another dimension. It gets pretty jammy. Stevie Nicks's version is also pretty good. Crash Into Me is one of my favorite songs.
You had so much to say about the production, and you're spot on. The work that producer Steve Lillywhite did with the band on their first three albums is amazing. You need to listen to some of their more uptempo stuff that really features these guys flexing their muscles as virtuosos on their instruments.
I first saw them in 1993 and they opened up for The Grateful Dead. They weren't big then but absolutely crushed it live. DMB is a great band. Some banger songs.
I grew up listening to them. I remember going to the taste of colorodo in Denver and they were there. In a way DMB is Colorado's sound. They're absolutely epic. Thank you for loving them
Goosebumps, Borat impression, double take at suggestive lyrics... damn, this reaction brought some vintage Alex out 😄😄😆 The Dave Matthews Band is a very classic late 90's/early 2000's sound, that very not quite rock, not exactly pop, easy listening just vibing music. His songs and voice always remind me of Rom-coms, but in like the best sorta way. He almost reminds me of John Mayer because of that. While I'm not overly familiar with DMB, I do know that i don't hate them, they do evoke emotion and nostalgia and watching you experience them like this was a real treat.
Saw this band countless times in their heyday (late 90s early 00s) and their live show was top notch. Everything up to and including Before These Crowded Streets was pretty damn solid. Great, great compositions.
Alex you need to do some more of DMB. You will very quickly go down the rabbit hole if you start listening to them. 41, crush, ants marching just to name a few. And their live albums are INSANE!! Also check out Dave and Tim Reynolds "Bartender" live at Radio City!!
Ahh, my high school years. DMB and Collective Soul. The unique sound comes from the unorthodox lineup. A violin and sax added to the usual guitar and bass was quite strange at the time. LeRoi could also play most woodwind instruments, including the flute, oboe, and penny whistle. Warehouse, Lie in Our Graves, Stay, Crush, The Dreaming Tree, most of the Everyday album, Grey Street, You & Me, and Mercy are my favorites. And yes, Carter Beauford is an incredible drummer. Arguably holds the mantle after Peart's untimely passing. Also, if you're going on a 90s alt-pop-rock bender, you need to get some Collective Soul in there. A lot of people will say Shine ( and they aren't wrong ), but if you want some bangers, go for Simple, Where the River Flows, Precious Declaration, Heavy, and Why, Pt. 2. And if you want the ultimate chill song, check out No More, No Less.
You should seriously consider checking out him and Tim Reynolds live performance at radio city. Simply mind-blowing. It's honestly the best of what's around 😉
If you wanna have a once in a lifetime experience then get tickets to see DMB at the Gorge (Washington state) for Labor Day weekend. Look up the venue. It's a stage in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a vineyard that overlooks the Columbia River. It's worth every penny!!
DMB is fucking amazing. I’ve seen them 27 times and counting, no show is ever the same. Crash is their most mainstream song and the fans tend to not love it….with that being said it’s still an amazing song. I highly suggest checking out the many different live versions of crash that are available on Spotify. Dave and the band never just show up for a show, they give it their all every time. Look for the horns section on many 90s version of crash. Good stuff. Thanks for covering crash and DMB. Excellent!
@@scapito oh I totally agree. I chased Crash in my twenties for years and never actually heard it live. Then years later when I stopped caring I finally heard it live. But for the record- I’d still enjoy the heck out of a DMB concert even if they played Crash and Satellite the whole night. Lolz.
This is an amazing band. I've seen them over 20 times and every time keeps getting better. If you want to check this band out more please do Tripping Billies, Ants Marching or Seep Up(Epic Wailing Version) I promise you will be blown away!!
Local guy from my hometown! Still remember him from his pre-fame bartending days when he would sometimes play sets on nights off. Ended up meeting him one-on-one years later at another joint by pure freak accident at 3am after another artist's gig Dave's friends with and had lent some gear to that night, and he was creeping in to pick up his stuff after he thought all the attendees had long gone, and my then car-less ass was still stuck there bc my ride was hella late. Real chill dude, was super nice, we chatted and joked for a good bit and he never made it seem like I was an inconvenience, considering the situation. 'Course, he was most likely baked out of his skull, but still lol. A-1 guy for sure!
I've been to a lot of great concerts but, DMB is outstanding live. They are also extremely charitable. They are quirky, unique, and powerful. Under the Table and Dreaming is fantastic from beginning to end. So happy to see you onboard for more from them.
One of the best bands EVER! SO many great songs. SO excited! But this is the short version of the song, so you're missing the full effect. Can't tell you how MANY times I've listened to this song.
