Are you thinking about getting a hip replacement or just had one? You might want to know the dos and don’ts after a hip replacement anterior approach.
After an anterior or frontal approach hip replacement, you have to observe certain precautions. That is because you need to protect the area where you had surgery because it needs time to heal and that area needs to be protected.
First precaution is no hip external rotation. That means do not turn the leg that you had hip replacement outwards. The easy way to remember this is avoid pointing your toes outwards. Do not plant ornleave the leg stationary when turningto the opposite directionof the leg which you had a hip replacement.
Second is avoid extending your leg or kicking back. This will put pressure on the surgical site.
This usually happens getting in and out your bed. Make sure that you support your leg with a hip replacement by hooking It with your good leg in bringing it up and down the bed. You can also use a leg lift or a belt to bring it up and down if you don’t have anybody to help you or if you cannot do it yourself with your other leg.
Do not extend your back or lean backwards. This will also put pressure on the surgical site. This also applies when you lay on your belly. That is because usually when you lay on your belly we tend to extend our back when we get up. They also a standard but when we are reading Or doing some thing laying on your bed.
Avoid pelvic Bridging. This is a common exercise but in this case not do this. Sometimes we do this when we put our while laying on our bed. Again that will put pressure on the surgical site.
So an easy way to remember all this is to avoid movements that will cause the surgical site open or that will put pressure on the surgical site.
