The DX1000 on review here forms part of Hiplok’s new 1000 range, which also includes the first angle-grinder-resistant ground anchors: the A1000 and the AX1000. Combined with either of these, Hiplok has created a system that can provide outstanding theft protection both at home and when out and about, so while it might seem costly at first, you could be saving money over buying separate security kit.
In this video I run a full theft test, including sledge-hammer, lump hammer, bolt-croppers, drilling and angle-grinder with both abrasive and diamond discs.

Do you think the D Lock will fit on the rear wheel of a 2002 Fazer 600? 😂 Looking for security and thinking of getting a D lock to pair with using a Oxford Boss lock for my front disc and whatever chain I can fit in the back of the bike with the Boss lock then have a D lock for when I have to park anywhere for a couple hours and take it in a small backpack 🤔
@bennettsbikesocial

If it doesn't, popping it on the cast spoke will still give you excellent protection.@@GaijinGamerGirl
@GaijinGamerGirl
@GaijinGamerGirl 8 месяцев назад
@bennettsbikesocial I'm thinking if I can use the Boss lock with a chain till I get a D lock for the rear wheel at which point I would put the chain through a structural point and the D lock but for using chain with the Boss lock I can wrap a chain around tyre, through spoke and attach to the Boss lock as it goes through the brake disk. Later point I can use the D lock and chain for the rear and alarm on the front. Maximising the security since its my first 600c and I want to look after it 🤭 Should be a safe plan? 🫡 Will probably opt for the Litelok X3 for D lock as we can't predict how the kickstarter will go but if I was to get a chain for at home I could always grab a 25mm Almax Ultimate chain to use with the D Lock 😛
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial 8 месяцев назад
All sounds good!@@GaijinGamerGirl Remember that a brake disc can be cut easier than most locks, but all your plans sound good. I would say you can be totally confident in the Hiplok Kickstarter - it's already well exceeded its target and Hiplok is a very established and trustworthy brand. They launched the original D1000 on Kickstarter too. Regarding the 25mm chain, I'll have a review out tomorrow on BikeSocial.co.uk for the new Pragmasis 25mm chain, which is significantly cheaper than the Almax! I'll also be doing a video on all my most recommended security in a few weeks. Cheers, John
@GaijinGamerGirl
@GaijinGamerGirl 8 месяцев назад
Will I be able to see a video of the Pragmasis 25mm chain here? I saw that the Almax can take 10-12 minutes to make 2 cuts so it does look promising to invest in a 25mm chain for at home use with one of these extreme D locks, assuming I can position the bike so that I can go through the rear brake disc and around a spoke, may be able to get my bike cover ring involved too so they can't even take the cover off to see what's happening underneath 😆@@bennettsbikesocial

Thanks for the video. Why we are not talking about the increasing of theft crime. The thieving is not crime anymore. Police do not do anything and don’t care if your bike has been stolen. All thieves are really doing their job easily even while cameras record them because there is no deterrent for them in terms of the law. I think we have to talk about this kind of thing as well with very loud.

The Met Police don’t even bother coming out to you if your bike is stolen and that’s if you have a tracker fitted! They simply do not care about motorcycle crime in the capital. As there is no punishment the thieves can do what ever they like and take their time as they know that they won’t get caught!🤔

Great video John. Good, sensible and realistic advice. It makes me laugh that some of the best chains available today, like Pragmasis, still don’t appear on many insurers/comparison websites. It’s all about being sensible. Don’t park your shiny new bike up in any decent sized city and definitely not in London. But if you absolutely must, layer the security then hopefully the gits will move onto something less well protected!

Definitely, car parks that appear out of the way should always be avoided, when in doubt park outside a store you're not even going to. You can check if it's okay to park by going inside then when you park there in the future they know someone might have parked a motorcycle there and know to call the police for you 🤭

I use an abus granite extreme on my tiger explorer. My tip for these d locks is buy a set of grip puppies and tape and use them on the d lock to protect the paintwork on your wheel. I then use an abus 8008 disc lock on the front. Using these two for me is perfect. The d lock stradles the shaft drive and goes either side of the wheel bars not spoke and connects on the outside of the wheel. I have been using these two constantly since Feb 2019. And apart from a spray of copper grease on the d lock and a new battery every year on the 8008 they are both working perfectly. Kept outside as well. As you say these locks are a good deterrent. And do give peace of mind.

As an amateur lock picker I’ll confirm…what you see on LPL and others…is years and years of patient learning and skills that only a few can master. Cheap locks like Master locks are easy…so are lockable internal doors at home etc…but anything with security pins at a good price is very hard to pick and not like the movies at all….
@Mcfc2Rich
@Mcfc2Rich Месяц назад
Plus criminals are not master thieves. It's not like gone in 60 seconds...they're not out mastering the art of lock picking, more like mastering the art of conniving and drug selling ect
@aspiringmodernistchef
@aspiringmodernistchef 7 дней назад
People need to understand that LPL is an outlier. It's like watching a master cardshark at work. Every sleight of hand these cardsharks do is an art and for sure, it looks easy. If I expose the classic pass in slow-mo and in plain view, you will think it looks easy. In my years performing sleight of hand, I was never worried about letting my audience see how these cheating techniques work because they will NEVER be able to do it. Takes LOTS of practice and determination that if you could master them, I don't see why you would want to cheat at card games because you could have used those attributes you have (patience and determination) to learn proper skills that could make much more money legally. Likewise, if these low life criminals are willing to put in the amount of time, effort, and patience into learning how to pick locks, why would they learn such a useless skill because putting in those same effort and time spent, they could have picked up skills that could earn them more money legally than a low life bike thief ever could. That's why people really shouldn't worry about lock picking when it comes to these unsophisticated low life bike thieves.

Excellent video John. I can confirm that insurance companies don't offer discounts even on dealer fitted trackers. As I live in a very large, European city, I was required to prove (I'm not with Bennetts) that I had one of the Insurance company's approved locks on my bikes by sending both a copy of the receipts and a picture of the locks attached to the bikes. My bikes are in an alarmed, underground, lockup garage (so two doors before you can see the bikes) but they must be locked while in the garage. Also, if a bike is stolen and the lock is not fitted, I'll only receive 50% payout. I receive no discount for the garage alarm or tracker as, according to the insurance company, it's more likely that the bike will be stolen when it's not in the garage. Having said that, the (fully-comp) cover is excellent and also includes Commuting, Roadside Assistance, Legal et al. at a very reasonable price. So, again, I agree with you that you have to find the policy which suits all *_your_* needs best.

The litelok is just about OK to carry on the bike and coupled with Oxford Boss Alarm lock they hopefully put off anyone when out and about. 2022 Super Cub 125 Rebel 1100 and a NC700S-D for winter and £4K bike trailer so I do keep everything locked together when I can to prevent anyone lifting them into a vehicle..

@SoCalLifer
@SoCalLifer 8 месяцев назад
Great video, again, Mr. Milbank, I have to ask are the grinder-resistant locks, from Litelok and Hiplok, essentially the same? Is the significant difference is the size of the locks? I have heard thieves decide to not steal a bike because of the difficulty of the lock. "Let's take the other bike, it only has a (brand) lock. We can cut that in a few seconds." Should someone who owns the LiteLok X3 or Hiplok D1000 switch to the Hiplok DX1000?
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial 8 месяцев назад
They're both different materials - Hiplok uses Ferosafe welded to the hardened steel, whereas Litlok has a material (possibly a ceramic) that forms part of the material itself. Honestly, if you have the Hiplok D1000 or the Litelok X3 there's no need to 'upgrade' if those fit and work as you want them to. Cheers, John

Also, Bosch’s X lock cutting disc system allows for swapping discs almost instantaneously, which makes any tests based solely on the ordinary way of attaching discs to angle-grinders partially valid in respect of time required to cut the lock with ordinary abrasive discs. The performance of those vary considerably between brands (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Ase0GXjx4w.html), and it cannot be said that in general it takes 10 abrasive based cutting disks to cut through the lock’s rod. Sure, they are good locks for deterring the kids from stealing bicycles and motorbikes.

Once they cut into it all willy nilly, the defenses of the squirting liquids make it difficult to continue. Ex: A) the flammable inlay will follow the flame being sprayed by the cutters. B) it creates a smoke of some kind of pepper spray making it difficult to see and stay composed. Horrible, I know. guerrilla warfare at this point 😅 stunt them one tactic at a time
