I believe he was born looking elderly! Saw a photo of him in uniform when he was young lad attending a military academy (1900?). Even with a full head of hair, he looked mature even then!
"Ideas" lol that's right, stop asking questions, join the military and don't be one of those free thinkers! That's not a jab at the military either, I've got nothing but the utmost respect for those brave men and women, more so poking fun at the fact people from that era seemed to think it was literally the only option, especially for men. I'm glad people decided to do different things with their lives, it's a large reason there's been such huge advancements made in just about every field that exists, some that unintentionally have even helped the U.S. military too so a win win.
Burt Mustin was a great actor. He died at 93 & appeared in more than 150 film & TV programs. He had a unique face that made him very much desired for specific roles.
@@MysticDonBlair Have it your way. But try this on for size: Wikipedia contains over 6 million articles in English. Find me six material errors anywhere within its pages. Just six. Because if you do, you've established it has a one in a million error rate, which is better odds than you'll find anywhere else.
Burt Mustin was a great actor, I'm 46 and as a boy remember him as Gus the firefighter who Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver, would go visit at the fire station.
burt mustin was in every episode of every TV show ever made. it was an FCC by law. he was in westerns, sit coms, dramas, you name it. i remeber him in " all in the family ", when he and an elderly female friend ran off to elope because they couldn't survive financially while single. archie's head exploded. last week i saw him on adam 12 complaining about hippies.
First time I ever heard the "Wobblies" mentioned in a TV show. They were anarchists labor movement IWW Cool to hear about them bravo Jack Webb and his writers
So what's a normal person? A drone who's had the joy and creativity beaten out of him or her by a boring and soul-crushing industrial economic system that only cares about GDP?
That was not his only Dragnet appearance. In another episode, he played "the world's oldest cat burglar." He was already in his mid-80's, and, yes, actually was as nimble as a cat.
I've heard of police academies using this show to show how police officers are supposed to behave. And proper police procedure concerning how to cuff and arrest suspects. Jack Webb had a winner with this one; and with Dragnet and Emergency as well.
I was able to keep my sanity until the end when old Bert turned hippie on us. Back when this program came out I was in my late teens. I had a little length to my hair and wore the attire the other kids was wearing. One day I did something my dad didn't like and he piped up and said "I'm tired of all you hippies with all your free love". I replies, free love? Where? I ain't found none of that yet.
Good old reliable Burt Mustin. He was one of the busiest character actors, appearing in hundreds of productions in his almost six-decade career. He had an appearance in almost every television show. He worked continuously right up to his death in 1977 at 92 years of age.
When I was a kid in the sixty's my little brother was about 5 he went up to a hippie man with long hair and asked him Is you a girl or is you a guy. Till this day I thought that was the funniest thing he ever said as a kid. RIP little brother I miss you ☹️
Remember Bert as "Gus" the fireman on many Leave it to Beaver shows. At age 90 Bert was on the Johnny Carson show, He sang, told funny stories........his mind as sharp as a tack. His TV and movie career started at age 67, LOL when most people retire, he started a whole new successful career.
True artifact of the age. Notice the "curb feeler" mounted on the front of the police car. Little known fact about Burt Mustin. He was one of the very first professional announcers on radio....he joined the staff of KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1921. He also sang with the Pittsburgh Opera Company.
@@johnschulenberg7560 I was at that that concert. Mustin played a 6 minute bizarre riff with his dentures, sort of a tribute to Hendrix. I had swallowed 22 hits of window pane, so I don't recall much other than this. Thanx for the reminder.
My Cub Scout leader back in the late 1970s had a VW van. We loved riding around in that van. Damn I miss the late 1970s and the 1980s those vans were still everywhere at that time.
When I was 13 watching this show I viewed Burt Mustin's character as an old coot out of touch with the present. Now, 53 years later, I'M the old coot and I'll be damned if I don't have the same attitude. All life's a circle....
Just happened to catch a Johnny Carson episode with Burt last night, woke up to see the algorithm loading me down with every appearance..lok He would be 135 years old this year.
I love Adam 12. When it was on TV I watched it every chance I got. Now that it is on RU-vid, I have watched the ntire series all the way through a couple of times now.
My grandpa had those on his car in the 1970's. He also would tie a red piece of material around the antenna of the car so he knew which car was his in a big parking lot. Those were some good days back then.
When I became an officer in 1987 there were plenty of guys on the force who joined in the mid 60s. They were of course young bucks then, as I was in 87, and they only commented on how cute some of the hippie women were, especially when not wearing bras....
