When you're recording in a trailer in the middle of a festival, there's a lot that can go wrong - maybe a drum check starts in the middle of a take, horns on the highway behind us, sirens, etc. Listening to Hippo Campus perform this beautiful arrangement of "Way It Goes," I was holding my breath hoping that none of those things would happen. We got lucky and the result is one of my all-time favorite Yellow Couch Sessions!
For Hippo Campus, we used Peluso Microphone Lab's 2247se to capture Jake's vocals their P-28 small diaphragm tube condenser on his acoustic. Nathan is singing into Peluso's P-87 and the Vox AC15 (provided by our buds and sponsors at Empire Music) is mic'd with Peluso's tube-ribbon TR-14. Finally, I used Peluso's P-49 on the Ampeg BA-10 (also from Empire!) for Zach's bass.
