Hipshot Guitar Xtender install & setup on a Fender Stratocaster

We all know tuning your guitar to Drop D adds depth to your sound and opens up additional possibilities on the fretboard ... but most of you are stuck either in standard tuning or in Drop D, having to wait for the gap between songs to retune.
What if I told you that you could access two notes on the E string of your guitar with a quick, quiet flip of a lever any time you wanted - even in the middle of a song? Well you can! All you need is a ‪@hipshot‬ Guitar Xtender (hipshotproduct.... This device allows you to flip down to another note, which you set with a screw on the back. Hipshot even makes a variant of this device that allows you to access two lower notes!
I wanted to install one of these on my ‪@fender‬ Rarities Flame Maple Top Stratocaster® HSS Thinline (isn't that a mouthful?), but because it has a full rosewood neck, I didn't want to drill a hole for the set screw in the back of the headstock. Lucky for me, Hipshot makes a version of their Guitar Xtender for Fenders! It drops right into the two-pin setup Fender's been using for decades.

I come across Hipshot about 7 years ago. Grovers were on all my guit builds. Had a P-bass build (see on my channel) and decided to use a Hipshot Kickass bass bridge. Loved it. Checked out their other tuff and got some tuners. These are the best tuners ever. Grover who? Most builds I use the plates, but mount them a lot too. Either work flawlessly. Now everything wears chrome open back locking tuners. Set em and forget em. Xtenders on about half of them. Used the A style bass bridge on another build. Phenomenal bass bridges.

Thanks for the video! I just bought a used black one on eBay for $25 (to match my existing tuners, a Tele), but I was curious about the buttons: I currently have pearl, so I’ll cross my fingers that I can transfer over the existing button. And I just wrote a little song to remember: “Plastic against the tuner…la la la la la… “Metal against the button…do re mi!”

I installed one of these on my Godin Freeway about a year ago, and frankly, I don't understand why every hardtail guitar doesn't come with one. (The Freeway is not a hardtail, but I had already blocked off the trem.)

These came out in 86 for basses. I’ve been using them on all my basses ever since. Only complaint, they need to make the lever out of steel instead of aluminum.

Have you bent the levers? That's never happened to me, but then again, I don't use them all THAT often.

@@chiba131 no bending. But they do ware down after time. Aluminum being a softer metal. But I guess that’s how they make money.

@@chiba131 Did you buy it directly from Hipshot Company? How did you make the payment? Did they send you a link to buy it? Did they do it specially for you or does the model for Fender with 2 pin exist? Can you help me with this information, all the ones I see do not have the 2 Fender Mount pins so I don't have to drill a hole in the headstock. I need to buy the same one that you put on your fender in the video. Help me by giving me more information. Thank you.

@@chumingo78 Yes, bought direct. They invoiced me & I paid through PayPal. They didn't do it special for me, this is a unit they have available, it's just not on their website.
