Exactly! So many of the old Amiga game tunes are really both in composition and sound, especially when you consider the technical limitations the artists had to work with

Nice rig! I startetd out in '1980 with the ZX81, upgraded '82 to C64+Floppy and got my first Amiga 500 in 1987. There was a lively hardware hacking scene at the time. So I got some spare 10 MB hard drives (5.25" MFM, half hight) and a PC XT-/MFM-controller from a NIXDORF technician, who just upgraded their mainframes to higher capacity drives and was allowed to keep the old ones. Got my hands on a DIY-kit for an adapter from Amiga expansion port to XT hard drive controller. Soldered all parts and cables, put the things together on my desk (no case!). Installed the drivers and was the happiest Amiga kid with a cheap, selfmade hard drive ever lived! All parts togehter was aprox. DM 200,- back then, when a decent PnP HD drive was barely available on the market (at least nothing below the DM 2.500,- mark, if you were lucky enough to find one on the market). This skyrocketed my boot time from aprox. 6 minutes to around 45 seconds! That was huge and I bragged about it plentiful at my nerdy friends ;-) Even with better hardware on my A3000's years later, with the most sophisticated gear available at the time and heavy tweaking of the startup sequence, it didn't get below 16-18 seconds.

:) I love it, and i loved the game... it is weird how you can keep coming back to this stuff, so many memories.

Frantzen79 Indeed, it's truly incredible the kind of sound and music the composers could get out of the limited resources they had to work with in those days!

***** AFAIK; Typically, more RAM in the Amiga did not equate better sound. But what it sometimes did, if the developers specifically took advantage of the added RAM, was add more samples for the composer to use for the music. Additionally, some games only made music available if the Amiga had extra RAM installed. For example The Settlers on an Amiga 500 had no music, but if you loaded it on an A1200 it did.

I remember the Psygnosis games often had enhancements on gfx and sound when you had that 1 mb chip ram. Leander had awesome music when it detected additional chip ram and shows a spinning chip that looks exactly like the 1.3/2.0 rom chip. No doubt it's floating around on youtube.

Still to this day 292 vs. 1 :D And i still return...

I did consider doing that at first, but every time I tried I just felt like it lacked that very distinct old sound of the original samples, and the song didn't "feel" the same.
