Mr. Kamemoto, who is extremely particular about distortion pedals, can’t quite define what Zoar is all about? This pedal has the texture of a heavily distorted tube amp, and its expression changes even further when you're playing with the volume on your guitar. This pedal is based on the Fuzz Face tone (Not the circuit) as Jamie states. But is it Overdrive? Distortion? Fuzz? It’s rather a beautiful mix of them all and he demonstrates just how versatile this distortion is from various angles.
When playing chords, Zoar brings out its unique character while each string still cuts thru clearly, and it goes very well with other dirt pedals when paired together. Depending on your needs, it would be fun to experiment stacking Zoar with other dirt pedals you have laying around to create a huge sound!
And note that he runs it with 18v power for a more open feel and more headroom. This was his choice at the video shoot when he heard that Marshall with the 2x12 cabinet.
