Could not dissagree more. The normal bigger knobs you always hit and change the setting. This type of distortion is addressed more at the metalheads who set their perfect sound once and never bother to change again ala if it ain't broken don't fix it attitude. So the les chance you have the mess up your setting the better .
You're listening to it on your phone or computer, mate. Turn the volume up on whatever device you're using. It's got nothing to do with the pedal. I've got one. It gets very very loud. I never have it past 12 because it's so loud. How on earth did you come to the conclusion that because you had the volume down low on your computer or phone while watching a RU-vid video, that that meant the pedal was quiet? Even if they were playing a 100 watt tube amp stack at maximum volume, that'd destroy anyone's ear drums, it'd still always sound like the same volume on the RU-vid video as a tiny 5 watt amp that's on 1 volume. Because that's how RU-vid videos work. The volume is controlled by _YOU_ on the device that _YOU'RE_ using. Do you get it now? When Clapton played with Cream, he recorded his parts with a Marshall bluesbreaker amp with everything turned up to the max volume, so loud that the rest of the band had to stand on the far opposite side of the studio. Yet when I listen to cream songs, they sound no louder than an all acoustic guitar album on the same device. They sound the same volume. Because the sound is controlled by _ME_ on the device that _I_ am using

I believe the comment was referring to how we never got to see the volume range demonstrated, because unity volume on the pedal seemed to max or around 4oclock, which isn't very much headroom for a distortion pedal. You usually would want unity volume to be much lower on the volume knob, so you have room to push the front end of your amp a little or simply lift you above the band for big parts. Could be just this particular model, or simply the way it behaves with this particular guitar and amp. I've had pedals that had varying unity volume, depending on what rig I was running it into.
