There are Two Hall switches in the Hirshmann Throttles, One is Aprox 5v output and one is Aprox. 2.5 v. output. We had planed to use these on our XE4 MX bikes. We don't use them because the spring is to strong. It will fatigue your hand truing to hold it continuously.

Those are used on Alta, KTMs, Hondas and BMW Bikes and lately the new Stark Varg is also using those throttles. The twist forward is to deactivate cruise control. 2nd Pairof wires is the 2nd set of Hallsensor. Controllers like Silixcon support Dual Hall signals that compare and shut down in case of "something isnt as expected".
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
No reason why both throttle outputs could be put in parallel on controllers that don' support dual throttle inputs. It wouldn't be quite as redundant, but better than a single hall throttle sensor. Thanks for the info about cruise. That makes a lot more sense than does some sort of reverse option.
@IncredibleCisco
@IncredibleCisco Год назад
@@de-bodgery of course on any other controller that doesn't support dual throttle signals one output isn't used. You just benefit from quality. Sometimes when you struggle with setup something as a beginner you can use the 2nd input to verify your problem isn't the throttle.(or when you killed the first output you use the 2nd) Vout2 btw is 0.5-2.0v only vs 1 is 1-4v So if used a(new) throttle voltage range setup /calibration is needed on controller site.

@@IncredibleCisco I didn't mention it in the video, but the tri-axis chip is programmable...or rather both of them are programmable. I'm betting that lower voltage on the second output is fully settable. I found the programmer and software for it. There's something like 50 options you can set in these things!

the forward rotation is for regen ,alot of controllers can enable regen with a specific voltage drop uder the throttle range

the cycle analyst works this way too

wow i stand corrected they really packed alot into that throttle i really thought it was going to resistive when i saw the large end bit ,
@tacticooldennis

I wonder if you could use that reverse throttle option to turn on regen. I know a lot of riders don't want regen on their brakes cause it interferes with their wheelies.
@de-bodgery

I'd rather have regen in a second throttle TBH.

It says on their website: redundant sensor. So you basically got 2 independent hall signals.
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
So if that is the case, maybe that second set of 3 wires is for the seconds 3 axis chip. It would make sense.
@christianwagner6244
@christianwagner6244 Год назад
@@de-bodgery No Axis. Iam pretty sure, that you basically have 2x VCC, 2x GND, 2x signal.
@christianwagner6244
@christianwagner6244 Год назад
In automotive, which is where this company is mostly based, you gotta have redundancy on crucial parts like that. So you could theoretically get both signals via 2 GPIOs in, calculate the difference and stop vehicle operation once the spread is too high (i.e. broken wire). This is used in every car that is equipped with electronic gas, which is basically every newly produced car.
@de-bodgery

@@christianwagner6244 This is logical, but I haven't ohmed out the legs on the IC to the wires yet.
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
@@christianwagner6244 Probably for higher end bikes and motorcycles, this would be desirable.

Where can I get one. My alta bike needs one. It has the same conector .. I have been looking and found one that doesnt have the same conector.. do you think by putting the tip the bike will work? Thanks for your time

Sooooooooo...... What are the extra wires for?? I have one of these and I've been trying to figure this out for months.. I assumed it was so you can run 2 controllers from the same throttle each with their own set of (g, 5v, s) but that's 100% guess. I've ran multiple controllers and ESC's from a single throttle and it was always fine to use the same regular wires split off for each output. You don't even have to have 2 sets. Then I thought maybe redundancy? Incase one set fails for some reason you have a backup set? Like with how higher end motors have 2 sets of hall sensors .. but that's also 100% guess. I've been fully unable to find a concrete answer .

Interesting as always, bro! This throttle is built to last, I would say. I can only imagine, the 5° which the throttle can be turned in the opposite direction (to lower the voltage by another 0.3v or so) could be used to activate regen braking and the 3-axis sensor could be used to shut down the vehicle if it overturns or is lying on its side, e.g. after an accident. As much as I like quality parts, I hate when something is intentionally designed in such a way that it cannot be repaired. Don't we have enough e-waste already..?
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
The 3 axis sensor doesn't detect motion, just magnetic fields in 3 directions of which only Y is being used thanks to the magnet. It's won't detect a crash. It's possible that little bit of reverse throttle could be used for regen. This seemed unlikely to me as so many controllers apply regen with the brake levers or whenever the throttle is released. Reverse seemed more likely to me.

What would be super quality throttle ? Is domino any good ?
@katiekumcgil
@katiekumcgil Год назад
ive used domino throttles yes they are pretty solid ,they tend to be resistive throttles so they have a pot inside they are abit over priced though i think for what they are

@@niklaspalmlof2005 You have to wind up the spring a full turn to get the tension it has from the factory. I think if you don't wind it all, you'll have that softer pull you want.

Too expensive IMHO! Throttle halls are not hard to kill and this design makes replacement almost impossible. I'd rather have a cheaper throttle that I can fix!
@georgeforeman89
@georgeforeman89 Год назад
I understand the need to build a part like this well, but it bothers me when things are OVER built. To me, that is bad engineering. You want to build a part that will last and accomplishes your goals. No more. No less. These throttles are like $200, right? I understand they are probably worth that cost, but only because they are over built.
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
A throttle with 2 SS49E halls in it that cost $2 each would accomplish much of the same goals as this throttle at 10X the cost! Sure, its over engineered, but that may or may not add reliability. Look at the typical BMW or Audi cars. Sure they are really nice, but you also have a zillion sensors and gadgets just waiting to malfunction! In engineering there is a this thing called the "KISS principal". Or Keep It Simple Stupid. This throttle pretty thoroughly violates the KISS principal!
