I contracted ABS a couple of months ago. It took me this long to find a doctor that understood what it was. fingers crossed i can get it fixed.

does this mean you could effectively get drunk eating a lot of sugar combined with high-yeast carbs?

This is a bit more drastic. They are colonized with yeast in their gut at a way higher degree than you describe.

@@doctorricky Is it diabetes-related? I do have diabetes, too (type 1.5, from acute pancreatitis destroying 95% of my pancreas). I'm NOT gonna try and induce this btw lol, I'm just curious/theorizing.

Yes. There have been both yeast and bacteria that have been identified being responsible for converting to alcohol and at very dangerous levels. The highest level that my husband had recorded in a hospital was . 644

@@markalexander3659 It's not diabetes related, but it does make managing diabetes difficult. Donato Giannotto featured in this video was my husband and he was a type 2 diabetic. When your sugar drops, you bring it up with sugar - and when you have ABS, not only do you bring up your sugar, you raise your alcohol levels. If you suspect you have this, purchase a fuel sensor breath alcohol meter and test hourly after eating carbs. If you get a positive alcohol level that is high, you can reach out to me for help. We have almost 700 members in our support group.

@@KrispyHippie My husband, Donato Giannotto relapsed with ABS each year because either the yeast grew back, or he had to take an antibiotic. Infectious Disease doctors figured out with trial and error, that most people who are susceptible to ABS need to take 3 months of very high antifungals while on an antibiotic to help prevent the regrowth of brewers bacteria and yeast. It's a never ending battle. Not all yeast and bacteria respond to Diflucan or Nystatin- and that's when things become really difficult.

Yes, but for my husband, he was .422 in one hour after eating 1 slice of cake. People with ABS have anywhere between 3-6x the legal limit when they eat carbs.

@@michsc402 yes that's terrible! But that actually happens to a very small degree to everyone who eats heavily refined carbs and carbs with yeast like bread 😔
