What a coincidence that Trinidad and Tobago were the team that lost here all those years ago, but then knocked the US out of 2018 almost 40 years later. (The US missed out for the first time since 1986).

It is rising, however today’s kids, the next generation, are the ones whom are currently being exposed to the true culture of world football, turning the usual US talent of eye hand coordination to eye foot coordination, along with all the tradition that comes with football.. US will be world football powerhouse by next World Cup! Only thing left is to include relegation in the local league and to rename it MLF or MLAF.

Sat with Paul and Eric Wynalda last night at O’Briens in San Diego and watched T&T get their revenge, knocking us out of the 2018 World Cup. I was 15 when I watched him catapult us into this run of 7 Copas in a row, and that game is part of why I am a hard traveling American Outlaw today... the look in his eyes at the final whistle matched the numbness in my heart as we realized the run was over. Talk about coming full circle... the disappointment was, and still, overwhelming. Many an angry utterance was heard, and both of these National Team veterans were right there with us, shocked, angry, and frustrated that the legacy was taking a step backwards. #SunilOut time to rebuild from the top down. #UniteAndRally

americans usually have a great morale. if they only had 1 innate creative captain and a good striker, with the rest of the team as average workhorses, such a mix could already do damage at a world cup. just 1 or 2 real talents. those players could then serve as rolemodels and hopefully redefine youth academies to better technical and tactical guidance on talented youngsters. usa has a great potential, but not yet the culture.
@gregspradlin290
@gregspradlin290 10 лет назад
Developing the academy structure is in process now, as US Soccer is affiliating with different club organizations (outside of Braedenton), as MLS clubs are working on their own academies now (like Real Salt Lake and DC United) it will be interesting to see how this all works out in regards to the national team. I agree that we need to get more creative as a squad, and also it's clear we need to develop technical ability (especially with speed and in tight spaces), I think tactically the US has a much better understanding of what they need to do, it's simply a matter of not have the ability to do so on the highest stages. This world cup I saw that same fight from the US that I love about them, but it's at a point now, where we will get no further on desire and physicality alone. Now is the time that the real work begins, 2018 should be the a great showing for the US.

A Fire Inside you clearly don't understand, there is a world of difference between getting to the semis of a tournament in any time period and actually winning it, the fact that they haven't even got past the semis since the 1930s is absolutely a joke, NM actually winning the tournament.

+Kyle Preston it's a growing sport and beating out even NBA and NHL in attendance and results like that are good for the USMNT even if it laughable to other people.Nothing wrong with other countries loving the sport that along with Japan,South Korea national teams goring it is truly a global sport and that's a good thing.As for the US it seems no matter what will happen in the future even if they mad a World Cup final (not sure that will happen soon but anything is possible) people always makes excuses for the team "well the other team wasn't playing their best" or "the ref was horrible" I never seen such hate towards a MNT and don't quite u derstand it.I myself am not a US born citizen (born northern Spain) and I don't consider myself a fan of their team but I will wait ch when they play and surprised how they are progressing as with other MNT as well I love watching was ching the underdogs in the WC.Be interesting what happens in 2018 I'd like to see the return of Poland qualify

I think did have the potential which is why there was 6 consecutive world cups. Nowadays the competition is suffering from youth leagues. There is no drive to win because everybody gets a participation trophy and more and more kids are quitting sports at younger ages. With American football you have a near religious pocket of community support. Soccer doesn't have that, not in America. I see only a decline for US soccer unless overseas nationals playing in the MLS or elsewhere declare their intent. With all the recent political immigration changes I find even that to be less likely to happen in the future.

MRr3n3gade And USA not making WC 1990 would have been an abject disaster and there was talk of moving the '94 World Cup had USA not qualified for '90, as a host who hadn't made a World Cup in 40 years would've been absurd (and why Qatar should not be hosting 2022 having never made a WC and also being disgustingly corrupt).

Wonderful bloody goal. I enjoy watching the U.S., men's teams. Initially, I thought the U.S., would be brash, cocky, red and white and blue type shit heads. However, they've really proven me wrong. They play football the way it should it be played. They don't dive around, they tackle hard but fair, they're pretty humble, they do the simple things well enough to beat anyone - with a bit of luck. Obviously, they were crap this time around, but I hope they keep their fantastic attitude and get back in the mix. They're how I want kids to play the game. As for the women's side. I can't deny their skill, but their sportsmanship, and attitude pales in comparison. Hope Solo, want's respect for the women's game after she brawls with her family and sends out Beaver pic's... I'll never forget the game they played against Canada all those years ago, talk about nasty. Nope, I'm not a Canadian, lol.

Interesting what Paul says about italian fans saying 10-0 . Canadian Bob Lenarduzzi said in Mexico in 86 the Mexican fans were telling the Canadian players 10-0 just before Canada played France in their opening match. France beat Canada 1-0 . Scoring in like the 70th or 80th minute. I just found that interesting. Or maybe that's just what some football fans do before the match starts. And as a Canadian i'll never know how we qualified for Mexico 86 and not the United States. I'm looking forward to the U.S. , Mexico and Canada cohosting the WC in 2026.

I'm old enough to remember the first soccer " star " in the U.S. Kyle Rote Jr. His dad and uncle played in the NFL and Kyle Rote Jr. was good at soccer and football. I think he lead the NASL in goals one season. Pretty sure he played for the Houston .... oh shoot ... Houston Tornado i think they were called. I'm pretty sure he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in the 80's.

I will always wonder what would have been if Trinidad were to go through to Italy 1990 instead of the USA... maybe the football in the country would have been taken seriously and seen as a positive income to Trinidad's economy... instead the state of the football federation in Trinidad is in ruins

USA has the tools to teach the game. It’s pricey here to progress tho. They don’t teach it well from a young age. We are taught to play fast and physical. We don’t control the pace tho. Feels like having the ball isn’t of importance. Moving the ball with pace is great but the powerhouses have the ball and control it all game.

Then 28 years later a guy by the name of Alvin Jones returned the favor 😂😂😂😂. Ironically from Trinidad and Tobago to knock the U.S from the 2018 W.C.

is it even a victory when T&T didnt even go to Russia? the only thing going for them is making Mexico humbled in that one tied game.

@@NegaRenGenX2gay2lift what is your point? We were knocked out already and the U.S.A had all to play for. And your research on all the games we ever played Mexico, you'll be surprised. Smh
