I’m an atheist and secular humanist. It seems to me that religion has caused a lot of net harm in our world. However, I’m very happy that the Pope is taking this matter very seriously. Atheist or religious or otherwise, we need to steward the Earth responsibly.

If the catholic church cared at all about climate change they would lift the ban on birth control for it’s followers. Over population without the resources (mental and physical) is not only carbon heavy but leads to poverty, famine, war, etc. But, since the vatican is a business, they always want more paying customers.

Really cool to see a religious focus on our responsibility to care for the Earth. I hope people of faith will feel a stronger sense of our responsibility to preserve what we believe to be God's creations, including by addressing climate change.

The last year, with the objective of developing vaccines against COVID, there has been a global sense of urgency and importance, investment by private companies, a sense of priority from all the governments in the world. We need the same effort in researching for clean energy propulsion engines that can compete in price and efficiency with the oil based ones. But that will never happen.

Why can't priests bless gay couples? They are literally blessing cars, pets, vegetables and so on. Why can't love be blessed?

Sort out child abuse and mother and child homes. It's within your power. Stop treating victims with contempt and trying to not pay restitution for offences of the church. Act as Jesus would......

This is a Basic Guide on how to become the pope

The Pope is doing the same thing that many seem to be doing, lots of talk and not action. Although government and business need to play a big role, individuals actions are just as important. Everyone or the majority need to: Buy local, compost, eat diet mainly of vegetables, fruits, and grain, consume less stuff, mend and repair vs. buying new, vote with your dollar and spend only at stores that promote your ideals, conserve energy and water. Don't believe the narrative that individuals can do nothing and it has to be left in the hands of someone else or big daddy government. This is nonsense.

I’m confused by this because this organization of The Vatican, The Catholic Church, has the ability to make these changes in the world, large as it is. Maybe the change starts with them in a more public way and other organizations will follow suite.
