As a vegan this is hard to process. Not only is the example story troubling (certiainly we can we provide purpose without exploiting another animals' reproductive system and stealing her baby's food), but the social stigma around veganism makes it especially difficult to find community that 1. Wants to make the world better by attending to the most oppressed sentient populations and 2. Is emotionally resilient enough to take on such a stigmatized project. What do you do when your greatest meaning and passion are (sometimes violently) invalidated everywhere you go? It makes me so anxious when I do meet another vegan that I cant handle my own feelings!

This talk might lead people to the wrong assumption that all characters are based around stories whereas the vast majority of characters are a combination of a semantic component and a phonetic component. I am wondering whether one would have to remember a story for that category of characters too with her method (as opposed to learning 音符).

People separate work from life. What if life mission become work. When they become same. Then instead of having “balance” (giving one side is taking from other), I believe in life-work “integration”. Living a life of purpose and excitement, growth and passion. Different rules apply immediately.
I admire and applaud these two for their commitment to forming a peaceful and prosperous integration of Israel and Palestine. But in reality they can’t even meet in Gaza because it is controlled completely by Hamas. Hamas would imprison and torture both of them for their actions. Their goal is so admirable and desirable to reasonable Palestinians and Israelis but the biggest barrier to achieving this is the presence and power of radical Muslim groups. It only makes common sense that in order to achieve this goal these terrorist organizations must be removed forever. They admit they are angry and use that as motivation toward peace and because they know that anger will destroy them. The difference between this kind of thinking and the Hamas thinking is that Hamas is not only angry; they are filled with hate and evil. And they do not use those feelings to move towards a peaceful solution. They do the exact opposite- they thrive in a world of violence and hate and it is what will destroy them because if not the future dreams of these brave men will never happen.
Did he impress the VCs and Hedge Funds? If not, why bother? That's what all this claptrap is about, right? AI is a questionable "solution" in search of a set of problems to justify its funding. Never mind that all the current applications outside of weather prediction and for classified projects for the world's militaries are meme applications, the technology is clearly "valuable," right? This person has spent far too much time removed from the real world, and far too little time reflecting on his personal motivations for working in this field (likely, glory and money). AI WILL eventually become a viable technology, but any safe and/or useful version of the technology is off over the horizon, and what we currently have isn't genuine AI. The definitions being employed are, again, meant to impress people in VC firms and Hedge Fund Managers, not those who actually might need functional technologies for difficult challenges they face. There is no clear path to ROI on the horizon, and the technologists are playing to the greed of those who wish to eliminate the need for any and all human labor. This is pathetic, but it's clearly in line with the nonsense that TED Talks engender. Short, superficial commercials that misrepresent reality and spread false concepts about redacted "realities" and potential futures that no everyone wish for are not doing the world any service. If you value your kids, TED people, discontinue your nonsense. It's not helpful nor valuable. Be well.
TED, please get serious. This is a sales pitch beginning to end. A very intelligent and well spoken salesman for AI companies. AI is not creative, this is a misuse of the word. AI is only extractive and it's extracting what we all have created.
