Robin Krasny interviews Bo Wagner of Starbuck in the green room with Player, Stephen Bishop, Robbie Dupree, Juice Newton, Matthew Wilder, Ambrosia and The Yacht Rock Revue in Atlanta, Ga
@@hostemhumanigeneris6427 Not too many people are aware of Lionel Hampton and how great of a player he was. I'm happy to see there are others who have heard of him.
RIP Bo Wagner 20 June 2017. Robert Bowman Wagner was born on 20 Sep 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, and was 71 years old when he died. I never get tired of listening to "Moonlight Feels Right".
Hear, hear. Over the years it has, for me, only grown in stature. I had the song on an early mix CD someone had given me and a coworker asked me if she could borrow it to 'rip' the song from the CD. At the time, July of 2002, before I had gotten my first computer, I did not understand how she was going to do this. My genuine befuddlement must have been precious/entertaining to bystanders. I somehow believed that she'd ruin my CD in the process. The popularity of "Moonlight Feels Right" overlaid my newlywed summer and hearing it brings forty-three year old memories back into sharp focus.
@@22_cincatt Sorry for late reply, I don't check my RU-vid comments very often! I have been unable to find out what Bo died of, and in an online forum discussing his death, somebody else comments on this interview as follows: "I've found no obituary, no cause of death, no mention of survivors, nothing! There was an interview on RU-vid conducted by an obviously inexperienced female done backstage at an event ... Bo looked very thin and not very enthusiastic. His answers to this woman's questions were very insightful, polite and professional. You could tell his level of intelligence had to have been high. The only time he smiled was when the interview was over." In my own opinion, Bo looks very thin and unwell in this interview, and in a live performance filmed in 2013 he also looks dreadfully thin, you can see his ribs sticking out, go to 2:15 where he plays his solo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WiaGFJ6ooX8.html
His playing was awesome. Moonlight is a very complicated song for anyone to play. It’s fast and involves various instruments where the musicians have to be exceptionally good. It’s not one of those songs that can be easily copied. I’m glad to have seen this interview. He seems like a sincere man. Thanks for putting it on RU-vid.
This Dude really made the song Moonlight Feels Right made the song so nice by his solo in the middle . RIP . That song will always remind me of Ocean City MD in the 70's .
Bo Wagner's solo on "Moonlight" was so important to the song that without it the song would never had the success it achieved. This was an epic making solo creating a rock classic we will always remember.
Robin, I'm sure you were overwhelmed with responses, but it can't be said enough how grateful and appreciative we ALL are that you 1) stepped up to do this interview, 2) did an awesome job with questions, listening and encouragement, and 3) took the extra time to post and share this is a blessing for all of us to see and hear. We can't say "Thank You" to you and to "Bo" enough. Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness and kindness 🥰😍💖
Robert "Bo" Wagner was the nicest guy ...unbelievable...Incredible interview...I'm so grateful. He was so great ...and so humble... He even said that his teacher was better than him.
I remember seeing these guys on Midnight special. The song was going great then the marimba solo came around. I said OMG! Where the hell did this guy come from? This guy was jumping from one end of the marimba to the other and pulling this sublime solo. I was blown out of my socks. That solo alone was worth the price of the show for me.
I worked for Starbuck's Lighting dude, Larry, and saw them live several times before going to Navy Boot Camp...I was 16 years old then...Some memorable gigs were at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton and the Toys For Tots concert at the Omni in Atlanta... Bruce told the story of how this song came to be: it involved a women he met at college who turned him down for a date twice before accepting the third time...Bo Wagner rocked on the Marimba (not xylophone) and drove the women crazy with his tap-dancing routine...When Bo was ten years old he was a TV guest on the Original Mickey Mouse Club as a featured drummer and tap dancer...He also, in the early 1970's, worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles, appeared on The Lawrence Welk Show for three years and toured with The 5th Dimension, Roger Williams and Liberace. These guys were all great people...
Sitting on a So Cal beach in '76 watching the sun glimmer on the ocean and listening to his solo on a transistor radio. Forever in my mind. Thanks for enriching my memory Bo, Rest Well.
Very good interview of a virtuoso on the marimba. All the questions I would have asked he answered fully. To pull off such an awesome jazzful solo on the first take after learning the chord structure shows that Bo Wagner was a genius and virtuoso. He got a lot of credit in some circles, but there should have been many more circles.
great musician. great story. Thank you for this. RIP Bo. Me and my friends loved "air mirimba-ing" your solo when we were kids and we'd hear it on the transistor radio man. Thanks........
One of the most talented people He was a mouseketers on Disney even danced and sang ! One of the finest marimba xylophone players on the planet! He shared alot of great photos with me over the years! I was so glad to have had the opportunity to be his friend. You will be always missed!
as a drummer this song has been w me since early high school... and I just luvvvvvvv it every single listen. i binge on it 5 or 6 times, then the solos, magic music.
Dear Bo, Jesús was beside you when you play ad libitum "Moonlight feels right". Now The Divine Light enjoy your awesome playing. God bless you wherever you are.
R.i.p Bo,thanks a lot for the great contribution you made to a very memorable song.Beautiful, relaxing tune, for a great time when this country was starting to come together. This song takes me back there.
He was amazing. The skill and the speed he played with; so amazing. The only other person I’ve seen play that instrument with that level of speed and skill was that fellow on the. Lawrence Welk Show; I think his name was Bob. RIP BO.
What an excellent interview of a super nice and talented guy, love their music...also so nice he didn't let the health issues, he said some of them had, mess with his enthusiasm for the interview and storytelling. Bo's helping provide more groovin' tunes and classics in heaven's musical ensemble!
I was 21 when the song came out, and it's been in my head ever since. And now I find this interview, wow what a great guy. I'm sad you're gone Bo, but you are a part of me and you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace My Brother.
How sad... he looks really ill...what a gentleman allowing this interview...I remember exactly where I was when hearing it. Magical.Thank you so much for posting. Lovely memory.
wonderful, it was wonderful, a great song great talent. This song was always on our stereo system in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Now we listen on youtube lol
Thank you, Bo, for the planet's most recognizable iconic marimba bridge in history. Released on Apr. 3, 1976 reaching # 3 on July 31, 1976. Private Stock 45039 single. You were part of musical immortality. R.I.P., Bo.
As an "old" metal drummer, from the mid 80's until the early 90's, this guys playing has always stuck in my head. I loved Starbuck as a kid back in the 70's; along with ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Queen and so many others. Moonlight was one of my ultimate favorite songs as a kid. And back then you were at the mercy of whatever the radio played. THANKFULLY, I was able to get the 45 of this song, before even it disappeared from the shelves! It's so cool to know what followed in the careers of good people like Bo. Sadly, he's gone now. But he still lives on in his talent. And as the Righteous Brothers said; "If there's a rock and roll Heaven, well you know they've got a hell of a band."
Love your comment ‼️😃👍✨. I went crazy over this great great song in 76 at 11 and to THIS day I list this as my Ultimate favorite song , along with Dancing in the Moonlight , Fooled around+ fell in love, Miracles by J.Starship and Everybody Plays a Fool 📻🎶😁💖✨💛🌛🌌☮️I'll never ever get enough. Of the song, it's never been overplayed; in fact it's NEVER been played ENOUGH‼️You have great musical taste ; wishing a Merry ChristmasTIME to you and yours👍☮️😃📻🎶🌖🌠✨🌖🌠🌗🌃🌕🌙
@@Vike29 Not at all. I was just saying that it was mis-spoken, that's all...When you "transpose" you change the key - and in the context of the sentence that makes more sense than to transcribe it.....
Oh my gosh, the names in the video description I had to read twice to see if I was dreaming!!!!! Not just Starbuck, but Player, Stephen Bishop, Juice!!, Matthew Wilder, Ambrosia, and the Yach Rock Revue. OMG!!!!! I live in CA but I would have happily flown to GA for this. WOW!!!!!!
3:35 min. mark. Very professional and caring the way that you seamlessly facilitated the interview here, especially in retrospect: This was his last interview. I really enjoy listening to Moonlight Feels Right at the end of each evening. Best song ever! Rest in Peace, Bo Wagner! And, Thanks for making this available on RU-vid, Robin!
