Origin of the song in Mark Slaughter's own words. “That song was written about a girlfriend who I went to high school with. I remember I came back from touring and couldn’t get a hold of her. So I asked a friend and he told me he hadn’t seen her. The next thing I know, he calls me back with the news that she had passed away and the funeral was the next day. It was one of those surreal moments. I went to her funeral and it inspired me to write a song about letting go. There’s a real sense of composure in going through those life events that I’m always very conscious of in my music. Seeing what it does for other people is why I continue to write.”
Always could relate to this song. Played it at my wife's funeral 3 years ago. Wasn't a dry eye in the house. The song fit our lives. Was the best 35 years I could ask for. Our favorite song.
at the end of the song he whispers "divine order of his" mark slaughter always likes to put a little hidden somethin in his songs.. super love this song. so beautiful
Imagine being in your 20's in the 1980's. Power ballads were everywhere on the radio. Luckily, I was born in '62. Truly, the 80's were the best time for music. I just lucked out.
Another one of those 80s bands that had a few great songs then faded out. Glad someone is showing then some love. Try some GREAT WHITE, BULLET BOYS, WHITE LION, WINGER & DANGEROUS TOYS.
Those hair medal bands didn't fade out, they were FORCED out. Same thing happened a decade earlier to the Bee Gees, one of the most talented groups of all time.
This was played at my sisters funeral in 93' she was 29 and died of cancer and I was 21 and I refused to listen to it but the morning I left the hospital when I Momma passed in 2018 I turned on the radio and I let it wash over me and listen. In that moment, I knew my sister and Momma were together and it brought a silent peace in that moment. This song and a Memphis band named Tora Tora has a song callex "Phantom Rider" both songs are healing to me now...please search that out and give it a listen. I grew up with those boys here in Memphis. ~much love and blessings to both of you and yours. This made me smile and tears flow and I'm thankful for both.❤❤❤
Mark Slaughter is a natural mimic. In addition to his athletic vocal singing, he also does amazing impressions, and currently works for the Cartoon Network providing voices for many characters.
❤️❤️.... many many rock stars have amazing voices not only do they scream at the rock songs but there's so many amazing ballads like this one out there...... i'm sure you will get many more suggestions if you continue reacting to rock videos..... I love ALL But the videos you react to especially some of the older stuff from the 70s and 80s
I love y'all so much! Y'all also got to do a reaction to I'll never let you go by Steelheart! The vocals will blow your mind along with I remember you by Skid Row!
this reminds me of my grandpa who was a tail gunner got in a fight over the blue skies of north korea one day....ended up in a tail fight with 13 russian mig15'sss he got shot down crashed into a mountain I LOVE YOU GRANDPA YOU ARE A REAL MAN ....SEE YA AGAIN MY HERO
This song has given me so much peace.....my son died last year. Its such a beautifully peaceful song!! It makes something so incredibly heartbreaking feel not so sad!!! 💔💔🎶🎼🎵🥁🎙🎸🎤🤘
I appreciate ur reaction to this vid...Mark had a great voice back in the day...you should check out a live version of this from 1991...he totally sang his ass off live. It's pretty incredible ! *Sidenote* I usta go see their guitarist back in the 80s all the time n he also ran sound for my band !! Blandini rocks !!
The way you guys react to his voice is really something. I feel like you both really love the sound for what it is, and take into account the talent that goes into it all. Great job.
Thanks for checking out Slaughter. They were truly not appreciated. Formed after the breakup of 80's rockers Vinnie Vincent Invasion... singer Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum formed Slaughter in 1990 w/ Tim Kelly (guitar) and Blas Elias (drums)... their debut album 'Stick it to ya' sold 2×Platinum in the US... thanks to this hit and 'Up all night' ...'Mad about you' singles... their '92 album 'The wild life' sold Platinum. Unfortunately, 90's grunge rock killed their popularity... they had to change labels. Their 'Fear no evil' album in '95 and 'Revolution' albums didn't sell as much. Tragedy hit Slaughter in 1998 when guitarist Tim Kelly was killed in a car accident (R.I.P 😪) Slaughter recruited guitarist Jeff Blando and released their last album in '99 'Back to reality'... Slaughter still tours and plays shows... but no new music since...☹️ Jeff Blando & Dana Strum play in Vince Neil's (Motley Crue) solo band these days.
If you like his voice, I have one that will blow your mind. Please listen to Steelheart "I'll Never Let You Go"🙏👍🎵❤️! Miljenko is 58 now, but can still sing that high 😀
I can't hear this song without crying let alone sing it ,you see the year this song came out my wife and son were killed and yes the pain is still not gone I never got over it but I learned to live with it I had to I've been a rock guitarist for over 40 years now I went on and got married again I have some beautiful daughters that are all grown up now , I am blessed ,songs like this and Jesus got me through it 😊
And to think Mark used to give guitar lessons before someone heard him sing and ended up bein the singer for The Vinnie Vincent Invasion. So underrated. His power, emotion, control. This song was written for a girlfriend he found out passed away while he was on the road. He asked a friend about her and he said he hasn't seen her for awhile then called Mark back with the news of her passing and the funeral was the next day.
Ha, lots of airplane hangers used for videos around that time, like "One" by Metallica. Must have good sound. I'm not sure, but I think that drummer might have been in "Badlands", a band with ex-guitar player for Ozzy, Jake E Lee, and an ex-singer for Black Sabbath. Lots of different sounding bands in that era outside the long-hair-pop bands. Badlands, The Cult, Faith No More, Fastway, C.O.C. etc...
Great song!! I have met these guys a couple of times. A few years back the guitarist Tim Kelly died in a horrible wreck😢 all of their fans were mourning. I miss Tim!!
Thanks for doing this one. This song has always been one I come back to. It put Slaughter on the map. The band blew up big in the late 80’s and early 90’s, plateaued for awhile and then plummeted after the death (Car accident) of their lead guitarist. Mark Slaughter has one of the great voices ever, and, even though I love it, I often forget just how good he is. If you want another great song of his to review, check out Days Gone By. The song theme is very similar lyrically as well as musically.
Yes! That’s where I was introduced to Mark Slaughter. Vinny is an ex member of KISS, and the it’s the ‘80’s and a little glammed up. I can’t remember the other hit they had off that album 😠 but his voice is angelic
It's a bittersweet song of losing a loved one. When a friend in the Southern California Metal Family Tribute Scene in 2016 went missing, then we all found out she had passed away. One of the guys made a memorial video of her at the tribute gigs. That person asked me what would be a good song for the video. This song immediately popped in my head. He said, It's Perfect!
Beautiful song reminds me of all those who've gone before me. My grandparents my parents my brother all of my aunts and uncles all of my siblings and most of my cousins. My dad used to say he was last of the Mohicans he loved that movie and was so sad at it also. My granddad used to say the hardest thing about getting old is watching everyone you know pass away. I am now last of the Mohicans I get it granddad! They are on that plane flying high back to the Angels.
I had the pleasure to know lead singer Mark Slaughter prior to the group, we sang in high school choir together in Las Vegas. He is an amazing person and WOW !!! what a voice, to sit next to him to hear his twice a day in class, he was our only natural tenor, something some fans don't know is he sang in a barbershop quartet with myself and 2 other members of the schools men's choir and competed in All State Choir in 1981, I always loved his ballads.

I consider SLAUGHTER the best voice of his generation. Since the band was considered a chick band MARK gets overlooked. I absolutely love his voice and a few of those heavy tracks
