This is where parents make an executive decision and keep their kids at home regardless of his decision. Simple.

2 days of precautions are better than injured children, parents and staff. Wth is he talking about?

The most concerning part of this is not even the decision of school closure but the selfish, greedy, and out of touch perspective that the state and administration often offers, as seen here. If you are trying to build a culture of essentialness, why not pay your teachers as if they are essential? Why not allocate some of your 400,000 salary to provide your teachers with adequate resources to carry out their essential service? Why not set high expectations and accountability for the outrageous student behavior teachers experience on a daily basis? Maybe support your staff so you can retain qualified and passionate teachers? If teachers are essential, why not prioritize their safety and follow the recommendation of people who tell you to stay off the roads and are far more qualified to make that decision than you? And if you choose to ignore emergency personnel’s recommendation, then provide teachers and students with appropriate working conditions that essential workers deserve. If teachers need to miss on an icy day because you keep schools open, will you be out in the classroom trying to fill vacancies to help your teachers and student body? I don’t believe anything you spoke of had to do with your belief in prioritizing quality education and everything to do with money from testing and attendance. “Schools had flooding and no heat, but they still got their MAP testing done.” The fact that Texas has the 2nd strongest economy in the country, yet often ranks in the bottom 5 in education is really reflected here.

There were hundreds of crashes on the roads. How many more would there have been had schools not been closed?

There was tractor trailers sliding on the roads are busses better for icy roads? What about the kids that walk to school. Concentrate on kids getting bullied and drugs in school. Fix that first. Thank you for closing the schools that was a good call

I didn’t see the city public works prepare the city roads for possible freeze. In the Past (when the city had some money), they did.

He doesn’t seem very interested in addressing concerns only reframing things to make it seem as if there are no concerns.

Super Miles appears to be so concerned about the students being at home without meals, then Why did he dismiss all of the homeless students that were trying to attend classes?

I have to now questions his qualifications. Certsin actions have become red flags. Let us be clear. Staff snd teachers safety comes first. Frigid schools don't equal productive students. Some staff drine a hour to work each day on ramps to beltway 8 snd 610 . Ramps closed due too ice and accidents. If students ate injured, even one, or a staff member, ypu can be certain families and community will hold him accountable for each one. The other aspect is tje fact the major, ercot and first responders ordered isfs to close to cut power draw, keep roads safe, and risk down this video only shows he makes poor discissuobs no matterhorn many chances are given. Taxpayers pay you, and tax payetss can take action. Please shows the real data of this kids left alone. Where it's 5lthat cold , icy and a strain on our grid, YOU WILL DO WHAT IS ORDERED AND SAFE, OR BE ACCOUNTABLE. SOME KUDS HAVE TO WALK A MILE TO SCHOOL.

No, Mike, safety first. Those cold icy days come only a few days out of the year and can be made up during holiday recesses. The goal is to have the children keep in time with the curriculum and pass each grade on time. Public school districts already allow far too many school closures days, as it is. 😮 I realize that some are teachers in service training days, but even those should be made up to!
