It makes me mad that people think there is no good current music out there. Come out from under your rocks and explore. You have a whole new world to explore.
Sad would be better. But, yeah, people sometimes stop growing at some point and just stagnate, running in the same old, same old circles. That's not what life is about. If you're not changing and growing, you're out of the game.
How this hasn't got more traction is criminal. I first heard HGM on BBC Radio 4 many years ago being interviewed and have been a huge fan ever since. A real talent. Please keep on keeping on mate. You have gotten me through some really shit times and bought a smile to a worn out soul.
This song is helping me get through the longest days of the teaching year, when we're just ahgning in there and trying to keep it all together. Sanctuary is all we can hope for, indeed.
@Concerned Parent Trust me - most of us have side jobs or businesses on top of the 50 to 60 hour weeks we put in. Sabotaging the post office killed half my income from that over 2020. Entrepreneurs are heroes, too, and they've been facing real headwinds.
Song’s a balm on the soul of a deeply troubled nation. Thank you Hiss, we needed this one. That final shot of Mike kneeling in front of the American flag in the “distress” orientation - so moving, and undeniably apt.
Feeling bad Feeling blue Can't get out of my own mind I know how to sing about it Ring of bone A little lonely I better hit the road, child We can cry into the phone a while Jubilee Find me Steady with your hope now That little light's gotta last a while Like an arrow to the marrow I know it feels like hell now 'Til we make it to the other side You want good news You want sanctuary When you try to get real Oh, they break you on the wheel You wanna move You want sanctuary That's all that I can offer to you From the bottom to the bone To the bone Get used to the bad news It's all part of the show, child Handsome Johnny had to go, child What did you feel, brother? Bad dreams Oh, there's something you should know now Little things that'll cut you down Ragged people Hard times And the lightning strikes the poorhouse The rich man cries like a crocodile Salvation Despair But the game that they taught me Sometimes it feels like it just ain't fair You want good news You want sanctuary When you try to get real Oh, they break you on the wheel You wanna move You want sanctuary That's all that I can offer to you From the bottom to the bone To the bone Yeah, to the bone Ah, to the bone Yeah, to the bone Ah, to the bone Yeah, to the bone Ah, to the bone Feeling bad Feeling blue Can't get out of my own mind But I know how to sing about it
Thank you for saving me from digging them out. My old ears struggled and lips were hard to read. But I could feel the emotion and see the relevance of the song by the visuals. Now I can fill in with the words.
Rarely does a song and a music video evoke such deep emotion that it brings me to tears. But this just did that. I love this whole album. I'm British and this all feels so relevant in our broken country these days. Love from across the pond x
I think that this song is actually about gospel that bridges the Old Testament to the new. Handsome Johnny is in reference to John the Baptist and the rich man who cries like a crocodile is Lazarus.
Great message. Lovely supporting cast. Yes, this land is your land, my land, but we're going to have to stand up for it--eyes and minds wide open and working. A little sanctuary will be helpful from time to time. And yes, all we've got to do is step outside--go for a walk, down by the creek, through the fields and into the natural world waiting to embrace and heal until it can't any more. We need to get busy with some giving back to what's brought us life and offers to sustain it if we'll just dig in with hearts, minds and souls.
I am a fan of The Band, and now of these guys. I was curious about the name, but the music kept me. And the girl who opens the video cameos is a future star!
This song is truly wonderful!! The message and symbolism is so awesome and as a bass player I appreciated the bass line! This was super fun filming with you despite the fact that I did fall into a puddle while walking into one of the filming locations!
I’ve just discovered this fantastic band. I was in a pub Friday night and this came on. I was convinced it was Prince. I Shazammed it then fell down a Hiss Golden Messenger rabbit hole. Their sound is everything I love about music. I’m genuinely blown away…
am just glad there are people who still make a good heart warming music like this! much love from Africa.....this was the first song i discovered from his collection, from there on, couldn't stop
This song just became the soundtrack of my break up. I wanna move, I want sanctuary. Thnx! Besides that, the song shines a light on the issues with social media (phobia). Altough the the lyric seem to refer to social issues in the US, and somewhat connected to your election. (I'm a swede and I definetly dont have a say but keep on working for equality and basic human rights)
Hiss vocal stylings grabbed me right away. Been hearing this on Sirius XM Spectrum channel & had to come here & share it to my band members. Can’t imagine someone thumbs downing this. Whatever!!!! I Love it!! Thank you!!
