If I remember correctly the commander of the Wildcats squadrons was afraid of being caught out of position and didn't come to support the torpedo bomber squadrons, and I'm less sure but I also think that they did not help dive bomber squadrons either but I'm only about 60% sure on that. I think the Wildcats were worried about being caught out of position in case the Japanese tried to counter attack. But I'm not 100% sure because the source I got this from was a book I read a while back called The Big E, the guy who wrote it actually served on a DE oh, that's a type of small escort ship which was mostly used for hunting Subs. He clearly did a lot of research for his book.

There are only 4 Kongo class and only 2 Nagato class but there are like 8 or more battleships in there. 24:51 “Poor engineering” puts it lightly considering Kaga was a nearly finished battlecruiser hull that got converted to an aircraft carrier at the very last minute due to the Washington Naval Treaty taking effect and putting a limit on the size and number of battleships a member nation’s navy could have. Akagi had the same issue but they had an easier time as they decided to change over Akagi sooner in the construction. 11:15 if I'm not mistaken, that's actually one of the few historically accurate things here. The reason there aren't any fighter planes from VF-6, is because the launching of the aircraft from the carriers was jumbled and out of order, since the US was still learning to use their carriers effectively, so planes would fly off in different directions, and when the Dauntlesses and Devestators eventually found the Japanese fleet, they didn't have their escorts with them, which is why a large number of the planes were lost to defending Zeroes. The movie Midway did the same thing. Oh and at 17:34 , that's isn't Soryu. That's actually Akagi, the flag ship during the attack.

From what I have seen, the interior of the Enterprise is off in terms of colouring. Everything is white, grey, yellow, red etc. The yellow "Bullseyes" were used in the 80s and are visible on the Iowas, whilst in WW2 everything was held in grey and black, with round Bullseyes in dark colours. Also, there are closed portholes in the walls where in reality quite a bit of ship is left behind them (look at the width of the hangar above). Also the frame which they walk through should be a watertight door, not an open frame. When we are there already, lets talk about the fact that the hatch they climbed up through doesnt exist on the Booklet of General plans, isnt watertight and is near another watertight door which cant lead anywhere since that would be the outer hull. Plus they held their briefind either in a messroom or the Officers Galley. The plans for the Yorktown are open to the public... Overall: 2/10 Looks nice at first glance, but is a mayor headache when looking at it closer.

As a warthunder player I can contest To that, if you are too high up, the enemy anti aircraft guns will get you or an enemy fighter, however timing is crucial because if you drop your bombs too early you have a higher chance at missing your target or for them to evade, drop the bomb too late and you’ll just become a kamikaze pilot and crash, and whilst playing a video is far different than reality, the amount of flack being fired at you is terrifying.

The uniform colours refer to the role that person has, its only used for certain flight deck personnel Yellow = Flight Deck Officer, he supervises all operations on the flight deck Red w/Black stripe = Ordnance men, Preparing and loading bombs and ammunition onto planes Red = Firefighters Green/Blue = Plane handlers, Guys who push planes around the hangers and flight deck to get them in position to launch, they will also signal when to launch There are nowhere near enough crews wearing green or blue as this would be majority bulk of the flight deck crew

The board the crewmember flashes has last-minute information such as direction and distance to the target. It would also have the magnetic compass heading that the ship was currently on. Apparently being on a big metal ship would mess with the compasses on board their aircraft setting them ever so slightly off alignment.

Hi! I’m kinda an aviation expert, especially about the sbd as I have flown one a couple times. The SBD crew would not have their canopy closed during a bomb run just in case they need to bail out 16:14. Also the cockpit layout looks very off and some of the modeling on the SBD inside and out have the wrong dimensions like the nose on a couple of them.

One thing when you asked about the gunner with altitude, they also had a set of controls as well as instruments, and they would tell the pilot altitude, as the pilot was focused on keeping the plane straight/aiming. So that part is historically correct. And the dive bombers would sometimes dive in formation.

White is safety and medical personnel Yellow are the guys who planes dire action and when it get launched. ( I’m no air wing but I would assume the guy with the board is telling the pilots to perform test before take off.) Brown are your guys in charge on a said plane such as maintenance and trouble shoot Blue are your guys who handle aircraft such bringing said aircraft from let say the flight deck to the hanger bay. Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly, some SBDs were used as a fighter aircraft during the Battle of the Coral Sea, due to lack of available Wildcats on the carriers during the engagement. However, those SBD's weren't loaded with bombs like in the game, so yea, there's no chance an SBD loaded out with bombs is going to suddenly be used as a fighter.

After starting the dive, im pretty sure that the back seat gunner would turn around and look at a repeater of the altimeter and call out altitude so the pilot could focus on aiming the bomb
@saintcynicism2654
@saintcynicism2654 2 года назад
The main scenario I can think for the gunner to be monitoring altitude rather than the pilot would be if the pilot was busy focusing on the dive sight or anything else at the time that would mean he had to dramatically reduce his field of vision or keep his attention away from the control panel (interestingly, the flight controls were duplicated back there, and at least one pilot insisted on getting his gunner as much experience flying the plane as possible. That way if something went wrong he'd at least have a chance--however slim--of being able to get back to the carrier alive if the pilot was injured or killed). That's just conjecture though, since after a cursory look I couldn''t find anything on whether the gunner regularly monitored the altitude, but to my mind that a situation where it would make sense to ask for a little help. But to hear the pilot shout for altitude while just barely having started the dive and still fully capable of checking it himself--nevermind the fact he should have checked it prior to the dive so he at least had an idea of where he was starting from, it seems like kind of an important thing to know before you decide to fling yourself down toward the planet like a meteor--is bizarre, to say the least. The infinite machine gun ammo seems like something necessitated only by the fact they wanted to let you dogfight in an SBD. Since, sure, 360 rounds of ammo for each of the nose-mounted .50 calls, but that's enough for less than 60 seconds of firing (and assuming they don't jam). But they clearly went into this mission deciding they wanted players to dogfight and figured "eh, fuck it" much like they did when they decided they were going to have them dogfighting in an SBD in the first place. Sure, it COULD engage if it had to--if your choice is to at least try or die, it's not a hard decision to mkae--but it wasn't remotely on equal footing and I suspect even the most aggressive pilots would have laughed themselves silly at the idea of chasing down zeroes or trying to fight them for the sheer hell of it.

@worldinflames38 2 года назад
"Is this mission gonna change my mind about Vanguard?" Haha, bro, we're just getting started. I remember playing Attack on Pearl Harbor back in the day, it's all about aircraft warfare in the Pacific. It's has excellent gameplay which changes based on which plane you're using.
