Things to do in Historical Galena, Illinois. On today’s travel adventure we traveled to a small town near Chicago, Illinois. Close the border of Illinois and Iowa for exploration. This small town is very well persevered with 19th century buildings and impressive Civil War history.
I used to take history for granted. I think it’s much more important to me now that I’m not having to pass a test at school regarding something 75 years ago. This little town was home Ulysses S Grant before and after the Civil War. Known for amazing sunsets, great food and expansive history, you’ll want to find a place to watch the sunrise or where sun comes up over the Mississippi river.
There are museums and cafes on every corner. Over 85% of Galena is listed on the national register of historic places. The entire town has been renovated to look like it did hundreds of years ago. It’s like stepping back in time. You gotta check this place out. Just Get Out There.

I've lived in Galena my entire life, and I've learned a lot about the US history by only looking into the Galena history. The place is beautiful and I just love it here.

Maybe you should do your research before making the video. You obviously new the history so you should have know how to pronounce Galena.

Sorry, friend….but you’re going to have to go back & re-film the entire episode with the proper pronunciation of the name Galena & a proper outfit to wear. Other than that, I’d say you nailed it!

After we did the filming we realized we were mispronouncing it. We thought about not airing it but it was such a neat town. Hope you liked it regardless. Just Get Out There.

We visited that town a few weeks ago. Do NOT stay the night in the Desoto House. We did and were VERY disappointed. Be prepared to pay extra for anything you buy. The tour of Grant's house is free, but a donation box is there if you want to toss in a 10 or 20. The mispronunciation is a non-issue to me. I'm glad you visited the small town. (It's only about an hour away for me.)

Good memories of Galena (pronounce the name, Gah -LEE- nah). But all good things come to an end. I refer to my happiness here. My love and I were married here. We enjoyed good times here. However...A resident further south in Illinois, said something well in a posting elsewhere - simply and truly - about the haunting of Illinois towns and farm houses. Far and away, the earth is soaked stained with the blood, sweat, tears of suffering, tainted by corruption, betrayal, murder... message to a certain restaurant employee or food service entrepreneur, and he will know to whom I write: hopefully recovering addict and thug, one knows he's closer than one thinks. Frigid violent urb. Rusty towns. Now he has stolen the woman of another brother. Beautiful. Now, sending a shout-out to M. and D. B___, sons of Professor 🕊️ of **** College. Man, I'm sorry 😔 that we most likely won't be raising a glass 🥂 together ever again, in this life 🧬 Words cannot express my disappointment in you and your older brother. Him, that crippled pus-infected face and hateful soul, it's understandable, but you? Really? What has happened to me, brought on in part by a member of a secret society, aided and abetted by same secret society, a brotherhood for white supremacists. They, & you by association, f***ed me good, ruined my life. If it can happen to me, it can happen to you. It can happen to anyone, eventually. C'est la vie, ainsi avec la morte.
