Wow you really missed the best parts of the town. The Goldfield Hotel is one of the most interesting things in town and is supposed to be one of the most haunted locations at least in Nevada. It was said to be one of the finest hotels of the era and has been featured on several TV shows. I've been there several times and it's very cool. There are also some other buildings on the other side of 95 that have a lot of historic significance. You really should go back and focus on the historic buildings and not the kitschy roadside distractions. But you did get one thing right and that's how creepy the town is....even though people live there you never see any activity at least the times I've been there.

Glad I found your channel. I was a UPS tractor trailer driver for 41 years. About 12 of those years were spent doing cross country with a co driver. We ran Los Angeles to Amarillo and back twice a week. Dallas twice a week, Greensboro NC once a week. NC was literally coast to coast and back in four days. I ran by so many of the places you show: Seligman, Williams, Ash Fork etc. I never got to see any of the towns, only what you could see from the Interstate. We stopped a lot at mm 123 outside Seligman at the Chevron to grab a subway. The Mcdonalds in Winslow was our first driver switch after leaving LA. Never got to stand on the corner LOL. I used to stop at the Petro (best truck stop) at mm 66 west of Kingman. Petro has two kinds of home made soup everyday, and a pretty good buffet. Keep bringing the videos, I wish I could have seen these little towns in person back then but better late than never.

I've been through there a few times, I have only seen one person. He was keeping a close eye on us as we drove through the streets. We stopped to say hello, and asked how many people live in town. He replied that it was not a town, but a 'village'. I think he said that there were only about 200 people living there.

Goldfield I believe is where Gus and Mr M who do the Abandoned Places vlog live or work out of anyway. He explores old mines on his channel. We drove the Idaho section of Hwy 95 up to Bonner's Ferry, not quite to the Canadian Border last summer. Great drive and very different from your stomping ground. Tree covered mountains and lost of lakes and rivers. You'd have to learn a new color--Green...heh. A good trip. We got on Hwy 2 and headed east from Bonner's Ferry.

Just south on 95 from Goldfield is the Lida turn off RT. 266, a few miles south of that is where Melvin Dummar picked up Howard Hughes after he slipped out of the Cottontail Ranch Bordello. Hughes had bought some mines on the dirt road where Melvin found him, that also goes west to Gold Point another small ghost town with some remaining buildings.

Following a significant gold discovery in 1904, Goldfield became the largest city in the state of Nevada, and probably the wealthiest. At its height, Goldfield boasted a population of 30,000, three newspapers, five banks, a mining stock exchange, and what was most likely the longest bar in any mining town-Tex Rickard’s Northern Saloon, which required 80 bartenders to handle its customers. Also of note, on October 19, 1905 Virgil Walter Earp died of pneumonia at St. Mary’s hospital in Goldfield, Nevada.

They weren’t haunted before, but it seems like the new modern video watching people all want to believe in ghosts and haunted places to go to. Hi Russ, Your video on Goldfield was both good & not so much…. Bad luck to try & visit a living ghost town during the pandemic! But…. I felt badly for the town and the residents who really are there and proud of their town that your info was a bit “sketchy”. The little shack next to the visitors center was one of 2 bottle houses still standing. Both of those bottle houses are between 110-120 years old! When you left the fire station, it would have been nice to go past the Courthouse (built 1907-08) and gone up the street to the Old High School (another 1907 structure). Last graduating class was in 1952. The 1st time I saw it, it was in pretty bad shape, but it s undergoing a big restoration. Farther down and totally unmentioned was the Goldfield Hotel, once a showplace and also being restored. In it’s heyday, at it’s peak , 1903 to 1910, Goldfield was the largest city in Nevada. From 1903 to 1940, Goldfield's mines produced more than $86 million. Major fires in 1905 and in 1906 destroyed several businesses in the town. Another portion of the town was destroyed in l913 by a flash flood, and in 1923 a fire leveled 54 square blocks. (It was caused by a “moonshine” Still!). While your video quality is really good, please do a bit of research of the place you’re visiting. (Ghost town Rhyolyte’s “Casino” was its once beautiful train station. 😔). Am I from that part of Nevada? No.. I live in Las Vegas, but just really love incredible history. Thank you for your videos!

There actually is one guy out there who is owner of a gold mine complete with working hoists, shafts etc. Was a big operation once upon a time. Just him & his wife now. For me the draw is that hotel. I know its supposed to be haunted. Has a real spooky feel to it. President Teddy Roosevelt spoke from the second story balcony in 1905, I think. Closed in 1945. Once upon a time, that hotel was the biggest building in the west from the Mississippi River to San Francisco. Your average Fairfield Inn or other box hotel these days would rival that now... but not it's history...!
