The next King Tide hits the Pacific coast today (Dec. 13th, 2020) and tomorrow, with 19' swells forecasted for tomorrow. It would be great if you could capture footage of this new activity as well!
Don't know if those people are natives, but having lived on the coast for 12 years, I'd be on the road out of there. I'm terrified of the ocean. I've been way out in it and have seen how bad it can get. Those people are crazy!!
Hey there I love hearing interesting, terrifying stories about the ocean from people who've experienced it first hand. Would you tell me some? If that's ok

I'm from the east coast: does King Tide happen at any particular time of year - or can it happen anytime ? So spectacular: the sea is beautiful, powerful, scary and deadly.
In fairly simple terms, the biggest tidal range will be at a full or new moon (known as Spring Tides). The range is also marginally higher around the equinoxes. However, weather will play a large part. If you look for storms in the ocean, you’ll probably have large waves two or three days later. If all these things coincide…then it should be pretty spectacular. Continental shelving etc will also play a large part…but that’s pretty consistent. It’s quite easy to find places where the waves are habitually large. Hope this helps..
People use the term King Tides for all Perigean Spring Tides or for the Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (around January 3rd/4th) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigean Spring Tides happen during Spring Tides when the moon is in Perigee (closest to the earth). So find the dates of full and new moons closest to Perigee and that will be the Perigean Spring Tides. Remember not to conflate tides with waves, higher high tides don't necessarily mean heavier waves. Waves and tides are not the same.
@@micahgelfand8282 They're simply Spring Tides close to Perigee. Spring Tides are on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion is when the earth is closest to the sun, around January 3rd/4th. Perigean Spring Tides at Perhelion are even larger than regular Perigean Spring Tides.
@@pncarcone Why would it be higher around equinoxes? I get that they're higher at Perigee and even higher at closest Perigee to Perhelion. But why equinoxes? I don't see how that effects gravitation union of the moon and sun
swept out to did anyone see?Footage oh no i was , sure i didn't want to get that oh, like impossible there but uh? Slam em a huge log? It appears that the tides and oceanic flooding of inland areas are growing yr to yr. King tides are nothing new...but as a resident of western Wa...I can say...the sea level sure appears to rising rapidly!!
Remember not to conflate tides with waves, they are two different (but sometimes related) things. A King Tide is usually defined as two things (weirdly), a Spring Tide at or near Perigee (aka A Perigean Spring Tide), or a Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (those are the biggest Perigean Spring Tides) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion (around January 3rd) is when the earth is closest to the sun. So find a full/new moon closest to (or on) Perigee and you'll find Perigean Spring Tides.
I hope that the "Jetty Cats" and Raccoons made it...and I bet they did...they have survived many many "wave actions" and they know where to hide and shelter. But, Bless them anyway!!
