THIS IS THE OLDEST ELEVATOR I'VE SEEN, 1884! This elevator is manually controlled electric. I love this elevator. According to the owner this is from 1884. Possibly the oldest elevator on Long Island.

Found your question on my video. The first "safety elevator" (it grabbed the shafts guide rails if the cables broke... Basically the pre curser to the modern governor) was introduced in 1854. (Or 52...) So yea this elevator can easily be from the date you mentioned. Also the elevators used before then had been used many years prior. They just couldn't carry passengers or be built too high.
