1990s TV segment on Nelson's Buffeteria in downtown Tulsa Oklahoma on Boston Avenue. At the time of TV story, owner was Nelson Rogers the son of founder of this unique restaurant. Many of the waitresses at Nelsons had been there for decades, and 2 of them Virginia and Louise are feature here along with long-time customer Sid Sullenger and owner Nelson Rodgers and cook Charlie Johnson.
Nelson's was known for chicken fried steak, Nellie burgers, liver & onions, beef tips, pan fried steak, corned beef & cabbage, chicken fried chicken, meatloaf, chicken pot pie, chicken & dressing, grilled chicken, okra, cornbread, rolls and its fast-moving buffet line. Customers walked through and told cook what meat and vegetables they wanted.
Nelson's closed and the space is now occupied by Elote, a Mexican food restaurant. But for a half century, Nelsons reigned supreme in the Oil Capitol of the World.
The segment shown here was part of a longer documentary "Oklahoma Cafes" produced by Jack Frank in the 1990s and aired on KOTV Tulsa and KWTV Oklahoma City and OETA (PBC) State-wide Oklahoma Public TV. Videographer was Mark Whaley.
