Fascinating history and decay in the world's first penitentiary - Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. Built in 1829, the prison was a model for hundreds of prisons around the world, and operated until 1971. It was then abandoned for 20 years before efforts began to save it as a historic site. Tours are available year-round to see restored sections of the prison, as well as some of the decay that occurs after abandonment and aging.
