A combination of natural, historical and artistic features has allowed Polcenigo to become one of the "Borghi più belli d'Italia" (most beautiful villages in Italy). Evidence of its long history can be seen in the medieval castle ruins, several noble 16th and 17th century buildings and several churches, including the church of the SS. Trinità, situated in the splendid setting home to the springs of the river Livenza.
The entire natural context abounds in water: not only the springs of the river Livenza but also the nearby Gorgazzo springs are of unquestionable charm with their crystal clear water that flows out from a Karst cave.
Polcenigo is home to the Museo dell'Arte Cucinaria (Museum of Culinary Art), which recalls generations of chefs who have emigrated all over the world.
The oldest local event is the Sagra dei sést i.e. the festival of baskets and, more generally, of wicker, rush and raffia, which is held on the first Sunday of September

Polcenigo has an old hotel in the square. When I lived there, Nino Zaia was the owner. A lovey man. This hotel was Napoleon Bonaparte’s headquarters when he came through Italy. He brought white grapes into the region making it famous for their wonderful Prosecco wine. Bonaparte attempted to conquer the Friuli region but he got his butt kicked at a battle in Sacile, a nearby town. 😁. the history of Polcenigo is fascinating. Across the street from Polcenigo is the quiet beautiful village of Gorgazzo. Here you will learn the mysteries of the deepest under water cave in the world. Stare into the lagoon long enough and you will see the statue of Jesus implanted in the rocks. How it got there is a fascinating story.

@@tonisumblin2719hows the weather and climate there? And how is each season
@tonisumblin2719
@tonisumblin2719 10 месяцев назад
@@yeeoo5772 It’s northeastern Italy on the Austrian border surrounded by mountains, so it gets cold in the winter but not cold enough to snow in Polcenigo and surrounding towns and villages. They’re at the foot of the mountains. Until you get further north towards the Dolomites Mountains, then it gets very cold. And snows heavily. If you like to ski Piancavallo is a popular skiing destination, a 15 minute drive up the mountain near the town of Aviano. Spring is cool and colorful. Flowers everywhere, the river is roaring. Beautiful landscape. Summers can get quite hot. But Polcenigo is usually spared from extreme heat due to the River that flows through town, and the water falls. The falls aren’t very high, and located behind the town square, it swirls and flows in the Santissima river. You can walk up to the falls from the Piazza, (town square) it’s gorgeous. I hear they are re opening a cafe that faces the falls. That place used to be my second home. 😁 The waters seems to keep the area cooler. By the way, there are some very large trout swimming around the falls and the River. The restaurants used to catch them to cook. Can’t get any fresher than that. Fall season is my favorite; cool and crisp. Polcenigo holds the yearly basket festival, it’s fun. The tradition is as old as the town. Over one thousand years. They do have a rainy season, usually in early spring. But lately it can rain any time. it keeps the region green and beautiful. Nearby city of Sacile, also has a river flowing through it. Look up Sacile. I love that city! It’s up the road from Polcenigo. Literally. Drive straight and you run into it. Bustling town, but never overcrowded. Fantastic coffee bars, and restaurants, shops, I hope one day you travel to this area. If you love gorgeous landscapes , fantastic food, great shopping and friendly people, you’ll love this region. You can go from peaceful towns and quaint villages to bustling but not overcrowded cities like Sacile in a short span of time. It’s close to Venice. This region, particularly Polcenigo and surrounding villages became a part of UNSECO about 20 years ago. The history is amazing. It’s my happy place.

my father's parents are from this area. I plan to visit the Pordenone and Udine areas next summer. I have this feeling that I will not want to leave. Does anyone know the village of Domanines? that would be ground zero for me.

Hi. I haven’t about that town. Is it close to Pordenone? There are lots of small towns nearby. Provis Domani, Barco I lived in this region many years ago and I return often. My landlord and his wife considered me family. Wonderful people. They passed away, sadly but I still have lovely friends there. I know you will enjoy yourself. Udine is marvelous. They are all beautiful town. Valdobbiodene, wine country, and Vittorio Veneto are fabulous historical towns. ENJOY!!
