As a retired professional who just can't retire my brushes - both makeup and hair, I applaud your authenticity. It really bothers me when film isn't accurate. I also am a huge fan of the 30's, 40's and Victorian era.

do you have any ideas how to recreate Sabrina's hair in this video?
@twominutetips
@twominutetips 10 лет назад
yellowduck2728 Yes, Its most likely done with styling rats which are very much like bumpits. You can simply take extra hair and wrap it in a hair net. This is what women did all the time during the war. OR if your hair is thick enough you can just roll it into place. Not sure if this is OK but you can check out my youtube channel and I have a video there on how to create a rat.

I appreciate how you zoom in to areas you’re focusing on. I find most beauty gurus are so self conscious that they never do zoom ins cause you might see “flaws” but it makes tutorials so much harder.

French aristocracy is not just Marie Antoinette French/18th century as I think you may mean, but covers the whole time of French royalty. So French aristocracy would cover 509-1792

I'd love to take a history class like this and that your grade is based upon how accurate you can replicate the style from the time period while learning how it relates to and shows the way of the times. It would be awesome.

I actually learned something with these tutorials, and wanted to thank you! I never could understand that one difference between my Nanna and myself, the fact that she was astonished by my ability to walk out the door without "at least some lipstick". From your 50s video, I learned that her generation was effected by the lack of men, therefore requiring young women to always look their best, fully made up and dressed in order to attract a husband. even if it was to makes quick grocery run. My generation not only had many more choices in terms of lifestyle, marriage, careers, etc, but those choices influenced our priorities greatly. I have a new appreciation for our feminist fore-mothers.

WW2 was another big factor of makeup and style of the 1940s. Products were rationed and supporting your troops was very important for women after Pearl Harbor. Often using sex appeal to get war donations.
@oddeyes9413

Some parts of Captain America: The First Avenger shows that with his bonds sales montage. Its pretty realistic in the women's sex appeal usage with the line dancing girls.

That's right! So much so, red lips were seen as a sign of patriotism. Also, apparently Hitler was badly against red lipstick so women would wear it as a result. Lipstick companies would even go so far as to name shades 'Victory Red" or "Montezuma Red"
@Zabrena

Thank you! :) YES! It's amazing what they used in a time period with so much strife! I can only imagine the stories your grandmother must have, wow! My favorite story of that period was when the nylon stockings were hard to get and the women would put makeup on their legs and have a girlfriend draw the seams on the back of their legs with eyeliner to mimic the stockings. Talk about resourceful!

YES! I'm definitely inspired to continue with this as a series; it's so interesting to see where makeup began and what a taboo it was when it started. For example, in the 1800s prostitutes and actresses were the only ones known to wear heavy makeup so if a woman of society wore it, she had to be discreet and wear as little as possible. They didn't even want to be seen buying it! What a long way we've come!

Beautiful Zabrena!!! Love the look and hair! :) Like you, I love the times and era's that women were actually feminine! I don't know how you could do a Victorian Era makeup look, because they wore little to no makeup. No eye makeup anyway. Just some powder, what we would call blush, and something to darken the mouth. I don't know if you've seen the movie Water for Elephants, but that would be a very interesting look with 20s hair and makeup. Great job, Zabrena! XOXO

The bangs I curled upwards into a circular roll and pinned. Then I just curled the loose ends and brushed them so they curled in towards the neck. ;)

@Kareragirl
@Kareragirl 11 лет назад
There was no real 1950s makeup. Most people think it means emulating Marilyn Monroe, but that's silly. If you take a look at Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren or Grace Kelly, you'll see that there's one hell of a difference between their makeup. Loren liked to overdo her eyes, so they'd look bigger. Hepburn exaggerated her eyebrows to give herself that doll-face. Grace Kelly wore "no makeup"-makeup. I don't really think that there is any specific 50s makeup. The only thing these ladys had in common was that they wore eyeliner, but if you take a look at Loren and Kelly, you can see that they even vary at this point.
@myrna_m
@myrna_m 10 лет назад
In the 1940s red lipsticks were way more popular than any other shades (even seen as patriotic during the war effort), while in the 50s, although they were still worn, they competed with pinks and peach shades, especially for upper class women, as red lips were often seen as "cheap" and too glamorous to be respectable, and the same went for nail polish shades. Also, in the 50s, full dark brows were a must, as you can see in pictures of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor or any other actress regardless of the rest of their make-up. But overall, there was no "true" 1950s make-up look, as it really varied vastly between working class, middle class, and upper class women.
