the only things they would wear was powder on the nose or cheeks and ashes/soot on their. eyelashes. and maybe some really pale pink nail polish. but only very few women did this. and they wouldnt wear makeup out of the house. the only people who really wore makeup at that time were actresses and prostitutes.
wow!! your videos are so instructive! most of the makeup tutorials in youtube are the same style, you're one of the only ones i see something totally different and with very easy steps, im really dying to try a lot of the looks on your videos! keep it up, im a fan now!
I just found your channel today and now I'm binge watching all your historical makeup looks. You are AMAZING!!!! I am so mind blown it isnt even funny. The Marie Antoinette is definiteöy my favorite so far. I had forgotten how much I loved history.. Now I want to go read a history book. Thank you so much for these videos!!
I just watched all of the Madmen series, I am crazy over this time period. So much was going on politically, socially and fashion wise. A few years ago I went to a Halloween party dressed as a go go dancer, wish I new about this type of make up back then. thank you for the tutorial insight. Great Videos.
I was just binge watching some of ur older videos and I have to say I love ur style of videos Zabrena ...always different and very informative....btw I love this look and the hair looked super cute too!!
the mod look is my FAVORITE, the music makes this video, i love it SO MUCH and will definitely be incorporating techniques from this into my everyday looks!!! thanks so much! 💄💖💄💖
my oh my I have been waiting for this look! it's AMAZING! I would love to see you do a Geisha inspired historically accurate/transformation look! thank you so much for this xo
Woooo Hooo! I've been waiting for this one as I just KNEW you'd look adorable with this look. Twiggy was (and still is), as my Mom would say, "Cute as a button!" as are you and you did an amazing job capturing the look even down to the chalky pink lipstick look. After all, it was allllll about the eyes back then. Thank you, you made my day.
Hey there, I was recently doing some research about the 60s (to plan a 60s themed wedding). Therefore, I stumbled upon your tutorial. Really well done.
One of my favorite things from the 60's was peppermint flavored lipstick very light colors. I lightly drew lower lashes . Had a Beatle haircut or really asymmetrical.
Oh my goodness!! I've seen a couple of vids from this series so far, and they are so good... Not only does the makeup look amazing, but you've incorporated the styling to your entire look. Thank you for putting in this hard work!
I love these historically accurate tutorials. What exactly do you do after creating the looks? Do you rock them for the rest of the day or take it off right after?
Loved this Z! You are so talented.. This is one of my favorite series from you! Maybe you could do a future look? Like what you think the style is going to look like in the year 2070 Or something! Love youuu xoxo
+Cristal Reyes Ancient Greeks and Romans didn't really apply a lot of makeup, it was seen as taboo. However, if you want some accurate hairstyles, check out Janet Stephens here on RU-vid, she does those sorts of hair recreations all the time with period appropriate tools.
+solitaireclub actually Makeup was present In Ancient Rome & Ancient Greece. They used a variety of items to create rouge, eye shadows, lip products & even for their eyebrows. The Upper class even had 2-3 slaves for this purpose, just to do their makeup. I personally hope she does do a video of one of these.
+solitaireclub Roman women did wear makeup. even though the men didnt really approve of it. they would use many different kind of things to whiten their face. The Greeks used berries to stain their lips and or cheeks
Love these historical videos!! Anything you can do on ancient beauty is going to have me hooked even more! I am an esthetician and nail tech and I love learning the beginnings of anything in the cosmetology department and sharing it with my clients! Thank you so much for doing this series!
Another fabulous time-machine video. I found these recently, and I'd never really thought about the history of make-up before. I'm an archaeologist, so you're utterly fascinated me with your time-machine vids. I was thinking that it would be really interesting, both for your viewers, and for you, to look into the makeup of the geisha, which was, of course, worn differently over different decades, and by the age of the geisha. Anything before WWII would be cool. Also, you'd probably be interested to look into the history of the kimono as well if you do a video like this. Looking forward to your next vid!
I'm loving the historical makeup series. What a great idea. Yardley was big then. Twiggy was my first crush. You look more like Jean Shrimpton. The false lashes were even heavier than you'e wearing. Like baby tarantulas on your eyes!
Zabrina, I am a historian and I find all your tutorial videos completely fascinating! They are another look at history--which, after all, is not just wars/politics--but also how people dressed and saw themselves. With your videos we can see step by step how their 'look' per decade is achieved also is a sociological/historical tutorial as well! Its just as much scholarliness as a written history chapter. Your comments are really illuminating on the 'look' per decade and details/movements of how women changed in one way for sure. I wish I had these videos when we checked out the 20's in history class--the girls would have been bolt up right in their chairs!! Thank you.
This is by far the easiest tutorial on the mod look I've ever seen. Thank you so much Z! I'm recreating this look tonight to surprise my hubby when he gets home lol. Take care and God bless you.💃
***** Well, Zabrena, this mod look is fabulous! But, alas, I am in my early 40s, so I'll have to go with the 60s look of the older gals: the mint green shadow and red lip. That look is fun too, though. If it's good enough for Hepburn . . . Thanks a million! I LOVE your vids! :)
Gorgeous!! Love it! It this look makes your eyes look little bigger which is awesome! By the way that mac pro concealer seems to be fantastic! I kind of want to try it! Thanks again!
Really really like this look ! So chic ! You had done a very good study about the fashion in that era. Very stunning !!! Love it Love it ; ))) I'm new on RU-vid and really love to watch your channel.
Always love your Transformation Tutorials G! It's always interesting to learn about how makeup has progressed throughout the years. Marie Antoinette historically accurate would be stunning! Anything Renaissance or Middle Ages theme :)
If you want to look like a hippie all you have to do is grow your hair long, put flowers in it and don't wear any makeup. That's the whole point of hippies, they wanted to be "natural".
I got the chance to recreate a hippie look for a photo shoot a while back and it really was a fun look to recreate - although, I thought the dress / jewelry was what really brought it together. I found an amazing little flowey, olive green, cotton simplistic type dress and found some great wooden and feather jewelry pieces to go with it all; it was a really fun look! The makeup was great, because it was just this very raw and bare / natural look - with some great lash action; I really would love to see Zabrena recreate a classic hippie look!! I was gonna find some images of my hippie look, but really.. Zabrena would put me to shame, LOL!! Here's to hoping she does a hippie look! 🌹🌹
Not necessarily. A lot of of hippies during that time actually played around a lot with face paints, hair wraps, and pops of color with accessories. My mom was a hippie, and she was mostly "natural", but she still had a style. She would even curl her hair pretty frequently using rags.
Lesley Hornby always seems so amazingly sweet and modest in her interviews! She's THE face of the 60's fashion, it takes a true role-model to shine inside and out. And of course you made another awesome and accurate video. Groovy;)
I've been looking forward to this tutorial since i saw it on Snapchat! I've also seen pictures of Twiggy where her upper and lower lips were mismatched, one being coral and the other a pale pink. I love that idea!
Great look! The earrings and backdrop are also spot-on. Lots of similarities with the 20s too. Your skin is very healthy. Pls consider doing a skin care vid : )
