The thing with historians is that you have to ignore everything but the evidence - and so much of what wasn't mentioned in the records was because it was considered improper (like queerness.) However, sometimes there's willful ignorance mixed in on the historian's part though, and that's where the song has a point. In the case of Frederick, much evidence of his teenage years has been destroyed (also because he probably wanted it to be) so... We don't know. His queerness seems likely though, and it's important to note that he could be. Thanks for commenting, very interesting note!
