Thanks for tuning in everyone! I put an extra amount of effort into this project as the BioShock series is one of my absolute favorites, so I hope you enjoy this one! Also, some big news - I will now be providing more high quality content on a regular basis! l am switching over to work on these documentaries, comparisons and reviews full time! :) Looking forward to providing you all with some awesome content in 2020, including a retrospective for Half Life, DOOM, Halo, Rainbow Six, the 007 Games, and much more! UPDATE: IGN reached out to 2K Games about the status of the next BioShock. 2K has opened a new development studio called "Cloud Chamber" that will be in charge of the next BioShock project. Looks like they're started from scratch though, as they said don't expect details for several years." Also - fun fact: this video crashed my editor 3 times while rendering. The culprit? None-other than a gif of Shodan... coincidence?

I also like 2 a lot. Some people were critizing the game harshly and I don't know why. I think it was a fantastic sequel and I also liked playing as the Big Daddy. The Relationship between him and his lil Sis Eleanor was super interesting and heartbreaking. I would still say I like the first BIoshock a lil bit more but they are both pretty much on the same level imo.

For me, 2 is the objective best as in it has everything that made the first one great, but also improves on the clunkiness and overall gameplay. BUT, 1 will remain my all time favorite, because without it, there wouldn't even be a Bioshock 2. It was more innovative, and an overall greater surprise because I didn't really expect it to be THAT great, whereas I had very high expectations of Bioshock 2 because of the first one.

Bioshock is one of my top three favorite video game series of all time. The decision aspect of whether to rescue or harvest(murder) the little sisters resonates with me hugely as well. I played the first game at it's release and being a gamer thought, "oh more, Adam, I should harvest them all." By the release of the second game I had become a father with a daughter. You really get an understanding of what your actions are when you have perspective, especially(though considered a worse game) had a better aspect of the Little sister's perspective of you. I rescued every single little sister in the second game and they saw me as a savior and protector, much like a Big Daddy(hint hint), and at that time in games was pretty big for characterization of NPCs. Also, though most people disliked it, I loved the multiplayer in 2. It was very akin to Left4Dead multiplayer and was fun. I will admit that Bioshock 3 was imo the weakest of the 3, it was still a great game. The entire series was built around Rapture and the people that inhabited it, and the fact they were able to build an entire new culture, setting, community, and all else years before the original is very impressive. Also gives us a look into what happened when rapture fell in the DLC.

@michaelhenriksen7359
@michaelhenriksen7359 4 года назад
Tyler Handke If you're the type of person who likes to revisit audio logs or in-game dialouge outside the game, then there's a full chronology of events and audio logs of the entire series (Starting with before the events of Infinite, specifically when Booker as well as Rosalind Lutece were born) made by MysterMachineX and it's over 15 hours long. Seems way too long, but to me, it served as the ultimate analysis of the franchise, without going into depth in terms of symbology and references of the games as well as inspirations/parallel's of Ayn Rand books. The 14 part chronology is a huge narrative journey, and after having seen it all, everything that was once hard to understand or hard to piece together, becomes clear as day. It's not perfect however, one of the commentators can be a little hard to understand and some of the footage for in-game dialouge can be a little bit messy at times. But still, with that said, i do not regret the long journey of over 15 hours, and would even watch it again at some point. I cannot overstate more, how much i reccomend watching the whole thing XD

@@Nile8765 Ayn Rand was a famous author. She believed that some people were better than others, and that you could tell who the best people were by how much money they had. She wrote about these beliefs and built a whole philosophy around them, which she called objectivism. Rich people love objectivism and Ayn Rand to this day, because it lets them feel better about being rich, even if they hurt other people to become rich. Of course, objectivism is a terrible philosophy in the real world, because it results in rich people stealing from the poor until the poor have nothing left, so the rich have to turn on each other to get richer. Despite this, many rich people (and people who wish they were rich) say that Ayn Rand's best book, Atlas Shrugged, shows why objectivism is the best philosophy. The plot of Bioshock is actually really similar to the plot of Atlas Shrugged, but in Bioshock, everything collapses when the lower class is exploited too much and the upper class starts turning on each other. Bioshock is actually a story that argues against the points made by Atlas Shrugged, showing how if you let the story of rich people founding their own unregulated civilization play out, it eventually can end very badly for everyone involved.

I imagine if somebody from the 20's went to Rapture, they would see it in the same unsettling way Americans see Colombia.

You don't know what your missing on. And the first BioShock aged well, meaning, the graphics are still there, even for its age, the core mechanic is there too. For me the first one was the best and it was one of those games I was hooked until I finished it pretty much like Dead Space, and a few other amazing titles back in that time. Xbox 360 and ps3 were the grand jewels of gaming era, so much diversity and less bugs than there are now. Now it's a total mess
@underman77

Dude, not gonna lie, this is a must play. The first game is probably in my top 5 of all time. When I first started it, I didn't put down the controller until I finished it. Litterally hooked me up so much that I had played it in one go. The only thing I hope is that you didn't get it spoiled for you, cause that could ruin the experience. Other than that, I cannot recommend it more. It's clearly one of the greatest video game of all time.

Bioshock 1 is an amazing entry to a franchise. Bioshock 2 is my personal favorite to play in the franchise Bioshock Infinite Takes a spin of the atmosphere and ideology, and makes a more Narrative driven approach to storytelling, rather than story through subtext. Infinite's DLC Burial at Sea Episode 1&2 may be the weakest links, in terms of gameplay, but it's narrative and exposition is perhaps the strongest in the series, in my opinion.. And if not that, Burial at Sea Episode 1&2 is definitely the saddest experience i've ever had with a game.
@anarcho262

@@etshArk87 I played through Dead Space 1 and 2 and now i'm starting with Bioshock again (ignoring DS3 and Infinite, both sucked). I can't agree more! Titles of that era are absolutely the best. Since 2014 it's more and more going down. In the last 9 years there is no game i really enjoyed as much as the old games. Mobile games, Fortnite, laziness and greed destroyed gaming. Hope it will have a return one day ...

What Lavine said about only having two weapons in Infinite was wrong! People would be less likely to use other weapons if they have to drop the ones they like.. That exactly how i felt in Infinite! I think it was another reason they didnt have that feature and he just didnt want to say it.

This is my favorite one of your documentaries. I think it's fair to say most of your viewers have already played these games, and already know all the mechanics. But what we don't know is all the history around the developers and the companies/properties that get passed around. I really enjoyed seeing a bigger focus on that in this video.

while bioshock 1 is a great game, i found bioshock 2 to be my favorite in the series! it doesn't get as much love as the first one, but i feel like it had a lot of story, the gameplay was also so fun, and i loved the in depth relationship between the big daddies and little sisters.
@Anastasia2048
@Anastasia2048 4 года назад
It's hard for me to choose between 1 or 2, even though they are similar they both have their own uniqueness to them. People say the 2 game is the worst, but I beg to differ. The gameplay is top notch, the characters are interesting and engaging and gave different perspectives of the beliefs and ideology of the antagonists and how it effected society around them. It was interesting two different perspectives. Bioshock infinite was my least favorite. It felt too on rails, kinda convoluted story and underwhelming gameplay. Still enjoyed it though for what it was. I think if they waited a generation to put on more powerful consoles it would have been better. The trailer seemed a bit to ambitious for the consoles of the time.
@theotherbeatle707
@theotherbeatle707 3 года назад
it's not in-depth LOL the relationship and the characters involved never change as you play through the story you're literally just trying to meet her because it's your duty there's no ambiguity or secrets revealed to actually make you care about her as a person like Elizabeth in infinite. It's not like you actually spend any time in the game with her and she never helps you in combat like Elizabeth either

Nicely done. I learned a fair bit about what was happening behind the scenes at the studios developing these games. The original Bioshock set the bar high, but I think my personal favorite is Bioshock Infinite, because of how it introduced and handled the concepts of the quantum mechanics, rifts in spacetime and the multiverse. I also enjoy its engagement with social problems endemic to economic exploitation (I only wished the player could choose their faction, as I would have sided unequivocally with Daisy Fitzroy and Vox Populi, but in the end I simply accepted that the story was going to be linear in that regard and enjoyed as it was).

This is one of the only games I've ever played that was so beautiful I didn't just try to rush through it, I walked around and tried to find every clue I could. Found many secret rooms, loot, etc. So much care was put into designing and building Columbia. It's the type of thing that will inspire game creators for decades to come, and no one has come close to matching the artistic talent. It almost feels like a game made by Disney... for adults. It's just perfect.

Just some clarification about Burial at Sea Part 2: another huge change to gunplay is that weapon damage was inferior if the targeted enemy was alerted to you, just like Thief games were. I hated that, it was an unnecessary and artificial compromise to make the game more difficult.

It's to display that Elizabeth is frail, scared and underpowered when it comes to combat. Remember, that she has no acces to tears or insight of all doorways, all she has, are the memories of misery, regret and most importantly confusion of why she's there in the first place. She's basically traumatised. But, in terms of gameplay, i do agree though, especially since Burial at Sea episode 2 is longer than Episode 1. Perhaps Episode 1 should have had more exploration/filler for gameplays sake, and episode 2 should have had lesser. (Not that i call the events of Episode 2 fillers, it contains some of my favorite exposition in the games, tying up a lot of loose ends, that were left desired in Infinite)
