The current 300 is still looking great. I watch a documentary on the building of the Chrysler Building in New York City. That was quite something, as well.

That was excellent. Chrysler were always known for innovation and engineering firsts that had their opposition scrambling to catch up, history shows that. I live in Australia and Chrysler manufactured cars and trucks here until 1981 until the whole operation was sold to Mitsubishi. Prior to that those cars and trucks that Chrysler sold where always better engineered than anything that GM (Holden), Ford Australia or any of the importers could serve up at the time.

area51isreal I remember the electronic ignition system which came out in 1971 and was available on V8 engines only. became wide spread in 1972, also the K car, the minivan. also the airflow from the 1930's, the Dodge charger, Plymouth roadrunner, Dodge Challenger, Plymouth Barracuda, unitized body cars, Dodge dart, Plymouth valiant.

@@frankdenardo8684 agreed. Electronic Lean Burn was another first too. I still have a copy of Car and Driver from December 1994 comparing the Chrysler Cirrus to the Honda Accord and Ford Contour. The Mopar won the comparison but was more interesting is the comment they made "Right now, Chrysler is the hottest shop in the world for new car break-throughs".

area51isreal I have a friend who has a 1978 Chrysler Newport sedan with a 5.9 litre engine with the lean burn system. bought it from an elderly woman who had passed away in Vancouver BC Canada.

@@frankdenardo8684 Here in Australia the ELB system was introduced on the 318 V8 in the late 70's. It did'nt do too much towards improving fuel economy though. However, Chrysler Australia had two six cylinder engines that it they adapted the ELB system to. One was 245 cubic inches and the other was 265 cubic inches. These were large and heavy cars but they could achieve close to 30 mpg. Much better than what was on offer from the sixes from Holden or Ford and at the same time showing up a lot of two liter cars. This was done with the CM series, the last of them before local Chrysler manufacturing stopped and Mitsubishi took over.

My Dad owned two 1957 Desoto's , either would peg the hand at 130 miles per hour . One time , Dad got in a race on I-65 from Louisville , Ky. , going south toward Bowling Green , Ky. and before he got to the Muldraugh Hill coming up to Elizabethtown , he fell into all the curves before Muldraugh and almost could not take the curves . Beside this , Dad never was beat by other cars he would drag race with including 10 year newer vehicles . Don't mean to be bragging too much but the Desoto was kin to the Chryslers and Dodges and Plymouths . In dragracing in the 70s , these cars were pure muscle . The ones before the 70s , we're talking big full sized family vehicles !!!!!!!!

The 273, 318, 340 and 360 are some of the most durable v8s out there. They require very little maintenance and they are known to go over 350 000 miles with nary a hitch. I know, i owned 3 chrysler products with the 318 in it and all of them were tough as nails. The first one i had, the previous owner neglected changing the oil in it and when i got it, i changed the oil and it took 20 minutes for most of the oil to drain out! But it still lasted me another 30 000kms b4 the connected rod let go and that seized the engine. That vehicle has 224000 miles of poor maintenance.

Yes it is. My 95 dakota has 278k miles and it gets its normal tune ups. Only had to replace two water pumps and a radiator. Still goes. Also it still runs in the 14 sec range in the 1/4 mile. Good ole 318 for ya. No easy miles on this truck.

@@TheOverkloker Thank you for the precision but still it deals with Chrysler before 1990: the lastest Chrysler car shown is the first Voyager. The very latest version is from 1991 (Voyager Mk 1 phase 2). it is disappointing because Chrysler released very interessant cars during the 90ies with the cab forward cars (Eagle Vision, Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde), the Neon, the Viper, the LHS, the clouds card (Cirrus, Breeze and Stratus)... Not a single word about them :/
