My parents brought me home in a New 1962 Continental Blk Cherry /Parchment interior. The only one in Detroit. Even had a Leather matching baby seat on the arm rest in back. And matching Luggage in the trunk and and Mom had matching hat and gloves. Wow. All for $5200 Cash. Dad worked for GM advertising got any free car but a Caddy.
The Lincoln of 1932 was a gorgeous car. A real beauty. I am captivated by the styling and the handsome looking smooth running engine. Even today I'd take a Lincoln over a Cadillac.
I really enjoyed this video. I enjoy my1989 Lincoln signature Series with a moonroof and cloth seats. Sad to see the new continental will not be with us to long 😥.
I currently have a MKZ . My first Lincoln was a 75 Mark IV, loved it, then a Mark V, a Mark Vll, that I loved then a Mark Vlll. Yes, I love Lincolns!! 🙂
My dad was the head of security for a high profile family here in Fort Worth And I remember when he would bring their Town Car home some days! It was super nice! Congrats!
@@Nathan_Jay They are good cars if kept up properly. Not saying it's your fault. I'm currently looking at a 2018 MKZ. Those things are just gorgeous! Ford is doing good things with Lincoln. What I really wish they would do however is an MKZ coupe or another continental coupe. I think an MKZ coupe with TTV6 would be so sick!
@@martindeleon9863 it would be, but make sure you upgrade the rods and pistons! I ended up with the bottom of the barrel example, which is my fault. I've been doing my best to fix up what I can.
Count me in, the wife got an 03 Town Car and I loved it so much I went out and got me an 04 Town Car Ultimate. We are both still driving them because we cannot find another car we like as much. I guess we will need to stock up on some used 2011's as future replacements. There is just nothing else out there...Ugh!
I read about a guy who modified an early 40's Continental. He replaced the V12 and 3 speed with a 460 and C6. It's a wonder he wasn't crucified when he showed it.
Lane Dexter I wondered about that too and looked it up. A 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible weighs 5.393 lbs = 2.446 tons. Slightly more than my 1975 Continental Mark IV: 5.353 lbs = 2.428 tons which looks right. I have had it on a scale once.
To this day the Lincoln is the most comfortable vehicle based on surveys. I own a Lincoln Mark LT. Its a Pick up Truck that actually rides better than my Ford Expedition SUV.
Fact: Lincoln named after Abraham Lincoln. ? Why would you skip the 69-71 Mark 3? One of the greatest, most popular Lincolns ever produced. My first car at 16 years old was a 1966 Black/Black Continental, lots of good times in that beauty.
Sad how they skipped over the road race Lincolns (1952 to 1955), first American car with ball joint front suspension. first Ford product with an overhead valve V8. One of the best handling American cars of the 50s.
Sad how they also skipped over the MkVII LSC which was also one of the best handling American cars of the 80’s, it was a perfect balance of luxury and performance
The old school Lincolns (like the Old 60s Continentals as well as the Mark series Lincolns like the Mark III and of course the Town Car from 1989-2011) are by far the best Lincolns ever.
I had a 75 town car jeeeze that was big and beautiful. With the toss over headlamp flaps etc. What a car! Then I had kids and she had to go . I just want my car back!
My Dad had a 1972 and then later a 1978. The '72 was my favorite....Deep Dark Blue with Dark Blue Leather. The 1978 was Brown with a tan soft top.The catalytic convertor sort of spoiled that one for me. The interior was luxurious as all heck though. We had other Lincoln models over the years and a few Caddys, Mercedes and Bimmers but the 1972 Lincoln Town Car was my favorite.
My brother had the 76 town car. I drove it a few times and I had the feeling it was taking up the entire lane on the street it was fantastic! The decklid was huge!
You brought up a good and important point. Henry Leland was the founder of the best luxury cars, first Cadillac which was eventually bought out by GM, then Lincoln which was eventually bought out by Ford.
Imagine if Lincoln made they're own version of the Mustang. It would basically be called the Lincoln Leppard just like Mercury had the Cougar and Ford had the Mustang.
I used to work for Lincoln I retire now that I got 5 Lincoln's in my house from a 1979 Mark v Bill blass until 2011 Lincoln Town car new Lincoln's no good
Good enough documentary, but it really focuses on early history and the Continental. Would've loved to hear a reference to the Versailles and other less prominent Lincolns
I love the simple little clock in the late 90s/2000 Continental. I've ridden in a couple old taxis in Honolulu. Just keep rebuilding the engine. The drivers loved them.
funny, whenever I read about duesenberg, they say duesenberg was the most durable, when I read about cadillac, same...americans really never seem to find flaws in their brands if they love them
'32 Lincoln Zephyr better than a Chrysler Airflow? The Chrysler Airflow did not come out until 1934. To me, the 1934 Chrysler Imperial Airflow with that huge waterfall grill was the best of all the 30's cars. Edsel and Henry Ford both knew the Chrysler Imperial was better than the Lincoln in craftsmanship and engineering. Edsel would ball his fist every time Chrysler Imperial and Lincoln was used in the same sentence. Lincoln was a good brand like Chrysler was a good brand, but they took, some say stole, so many ideas from us at Chrysler it got to the point were we almost stopped comparing Chrysler and Imperial with Lincoln and went after Cadillac.
Andrew Armstrong ...the Lincoln was and is arguably a better product than Cadillac, and leaps and bounds better than any Chrysler product...I mean come on, let's keep it real here....
FordLincoln can't manufacture the part I need for my car and I'm left suffering as a result for last 4 months. I never expected a luxury section car of a reputed company like Ford lincoln would ever be present in a body shop for months waiting for part availability and not having any ETA. This has caused me immense inconvenience and I become depressed. I took Disappointed in the lack of support and options
Good history, but it should have begun by mentioning that Henry Leland created Cadillac in 1902, and that he and his son, Wilfred, stayed with Cadillac for a while after William Durant acquired it as part of General Motors. Then Henry branched out on his own to create Lincoln. Thus, TWO of Amerca's great luxury cars were created by the same man. BTW, the 1957-8 Eldorado Brougham (probably Cadillac's response to the 1956-7 Contintal Mark II) was priced at $13,074.
Hard to support that statement, given the same man created both. Maybe you could say Henry L. learned from experience. I certainly agree GM has made a mess of Cadillac. Leland would roll in his grave. I’d love a Lincoln based on the Panther platform, but unfortunately all I can afford is an old P71 Crown Vic on that platform. 🙄
American cars are *style over substance!* Australian cars were *substance first! Style last!* Cars for Australia had to perform well and be safe to drive. Appearance counted for less than 1% in importance. The car should look good but never ostentatious.
