Very nice. Im from California and live in Texas. When we moved here there was 1 Del Taco in 1980.It closed in 1989. Don,t you know they reopened last year in the same building as then 25 years later. Was there today and bought big bags to carry home. :):):):)
I just met Ed on Monday (Labor Day) at his Barstow store. He was such a gracious gentleman. He gave me an autograph and took a picture with me. He's a living legend!
@@mikeh6177 no sir, I haven’t posted to social media. I had him sign a $100 bill and he joked if he could keep it and give me a signed $1 bill instead. I was not opposed to it.
Amazing story. Del Taco, Taco Bell, Wienerschnitzel, McDonald's, Stater Bros markets and local chain Baker's Drive-Thru all got their starts in San Bernardino, CA and their stories are all related.
I used to work at a Del Taco out here in Sacramento, Ca. back in 1994, and I miss eating these menu items, such as the Macho Combo Burritos, Chicken soft tacos, and the Double Del Cheeseburgers and fries. I had just went there for lunch with a friend, and noticed how much the menu has changed since then.
Very nice.Thank you for Re-opening the one in Pantego,Texas this year after 20 + years. Its dinner last night,Tonight and we will be in at least a couple times a month.God Bless !!!
Great story, Great video, Mr. Hackbarth put a Del Taco in Amboy you will have no competition. Thank you for letting us film in your restaurant Mr. Albert Okura's favorite menu item is a taco salad and a bum taco. They are only in Barstow.
The tv cable station,The History Channel, has been showing a documumentary-drama series called,"The Food That Built America",for last few years. An episode aired about how Taco Bell came tobe was shown in season 3.
They all have San Bernardino roots but eventually move to Orange County. I started in Texas but in four or five years my Restraunt headquarters will move to Irvine.
Is Del Taco up today the same Del Taco of the eighties and nineties? It's so what happened? The quality of the food in the eighties and nineties was as good as a fine dining mexican restaurant Then del taco seemed to disappear But they came back with really gross disgusting food Does anybody know the story of what happened
Not sure what location you ate at but the ones I’ve been to in Nevada have all been fine. Especially their Del Tacos and their Fish/Shrimp tacos. If you want what’s similar to what was back in the day then the Barstow location is it.
Thanks for the history, pretty neat!.I love Del Taco and when I'm in Calif. make it a point to have some.I wish they'd consider opening one in Wichita,KS.All we have is Taco Bell, some home-grown taco places which are alright but don't compare to Del Taco,and...cardboard-tasting Taco Bueno.
I WROTE A BOOK ON FASTFOOD. Met ED recently at McDonalds Museum. Have him in the book. "Fast Food Chronicles" Unheralded Champion of American Food Culture 1916-1972.
Only two Del Tacos in the entirety of Florida. I helped open the one on Grand National and International in Orlando. (near the Fun Spot). Best and most welcoming sign I ever saw when moving to Florida was that "Coming Soon" banner in the construction.
Del Taco was so good before. Just like Taco Bell and all the rest, It's lost the quality the brand once had. I have been going there since the 1980's and it's come to the point I have stopped going. In Las Vegas the Del Tacos are all ghetto now. Most are not even open 24 hours anymore. We need a Taco John in Vegas!
