Hey Gaming Historian, your history is amazingly inspiring! We are a RetroGaming community from Latin America and Spain and this year we've begun our own channel because we saw there was nothing like that in spanish yet. Our first inspiration was also the AVGN and Classic Game Room and when we found your channel we knew that was the take we wanted to give to ours! Right now we have a couple of episodes online and we're working on our next one and we are having a lot of fun doing them, all thanks to channels like yours. Keep at the good work, we love your show ;)

Your college was crazy. I get what they were trying to tell you, but The Gaming Historian is a pretty G-Rated show, it's not like you were doing anything controversial or offensive with your videos.
@kylesexton805
@kylesexton805 5 лет назад
I agree with you that it's crazy. While I enjoy Norm's videos and content, the school may have been trying to spare him some potential embarrassment in a classroom someday. While I don't see anything he should be embarrassed of, kids can be cruel :/ Only Norm knows the context of that conversation, however. I may be way off. If so, my apologies...

I was very surprised when I heard that, it's really none of their business. I would probably not have deleted my channel though, as long as I don't break some law or offical rule I can do whatever I want after school. It's super weird, I think if my professors saw that they would not only not care, they would probably even say that it's cool that I have some hobbies or whatever. In my uni many were also in political parties and so on, it was never discouraged, of course some part of your life can be pretty public.

Sharing your life's story and how it pertains to your dreams/goals/aspirations was really touching to watch. Indeed, life is a pretty amazing journey in and of itself-- with its peaks and valleys, jubilations and tribulations. It takes a rather large measure of courage, and an even larger measure of support from those around you, to chase a dream and make it a reality. As a fan, I'm grateful that you've taken that step and that your wife is willing to be that support system that's so very necessary; it has meant seeing more of the content that I've enjoyed over the years and the comfort and pleasure of knowing that even more will come. As someone who has had the pleasure of chatting with you in social media circles, I've never had a doubt that you would succeed if you took the leap-- you're passionate, bright, driven, and know how to execute a concept that I think is very important in helping others to learn more about the video games that we enjoy so very much. Thank you for what you do, and you have my wishes for continued and expanded success in the coming months and years.

I watched your channel years ago, possibly around the time you joined retroware, and after you deleted your account I did not know you were back till a few months ago where I spotted you in a related video. I was shocked to see the MASSIVE jump in quality of your videos, and you yourself have really grown as a person! You appear to have much more confidence in your videos. Going from 2008/9 to 2015 was a big jump, and I've been catching up on all of your great videos. It's great to hear you are doing this full-time now, and I am really happy that everything seems to have worked out for you. What of the dream of becoming a history teacher? Did the dilemma of this channel vs teaching mean you had to give it up? You could always consider branching out into other channels too, such as history vidoes on other topics like khan academy etc. Either way whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be great, and I wish you the best of luck! Thanks for making these videos Norman.

Way late in commenting on this vid but I have been busy for the last few months. Anyhow, congrats on the 100k and keep the vids coming. This is a pretty cool full time project due to it's nature. There are a lot of full time reviewers but with the history angle this project could end up being a very comprehensive look at gaming and the culture around it. Have you ever considered doing something about the history of the conventions and gaming culture itself. Things like the arcade scene of the early days and how shows like E3 and PAX came to being? I'm sure you probably have but it never hurts to ask. Once again late congrats and I look forward to catching up on your backlog and seeing what new stuff you come up with?

Many people don't think their life stories are going to be interesting to others, let alone a large community of people, but truthfully everyone's story is interesting, if you take the time to pay attention and realize how much who they are and what they do touches the lives of those around them. If I take anything away from these videos, aside from the most fascinating history I never thought I'd find, it's that when you find your niche, jump in with both feet. I'm still looking for my niche, and it always inspires me to learn how others have found theirs. Thanks for this video, even though I'm finding it years later. :)

WOW what a fantastic 19 minutes!! Thank you so much Norman for sharing a great story. As with many of us born in the 80's growing up in the 90's the 8 / 16 bit era seems so important to shaping our youth. The enjoyment I get from reminiscing on my childhood is amplified when I watch your episodes. Keep up the polished work and I am so glad you have been able to pursue your passion in a full time scenario. Tim - Australia

Really cool! I'm really happy you got through "the dark times" in your life, found love and are able to do what you like to do. Life is not about making as much money as possible but living it full, doing things you and your close ones like and want to do! I just found your videos a few weeks back and have been really entertained By them. The Wolfenstein-series was awesome and taught me lots of new things from the gaming industry. I will have a lot to catch up if I'm going to watch all your videos. These history videos are very entertaining for someone like me who has been playing since the early 90's with NES and different Sony consoles. I never had a chance to play any Sega consoles so "reliving" those times with these history episodes is a joy. Huge thumbs up for you! I hope you all the best and will definitely watch your videos from now on! Cheers! :)

I started watching your videos literally 2 weeks ago because my sister was planning to get rid of her husband's NES, Sega Genesis, and Sega Saturns. I told me my sister I was not too familiar with Sega consoles so I began to research. Your videos helped me know more about what they were and I've been hooked since. Thanks to you I was able to provide my sister information on the consoles she had. Afterwards she ended up giving me one of the Sega Saturns as well! Im glad I found your channel and I hope to see more. Keep up the great content!

Hey Norm, thanks for sharing your story with us. I love the informative and down to earth style of your videos. To me they're a cut above most video game related content on RU-vid. And it was cool to hear more about your life too - God bless you and your wife! Greetings from Scotland.

Norm, your videos are wonderful and are only outclassed by your genuine love and appreciation for your fans. Meeting you at MAGfest and talking to you and Roo about the retro gaming club I host at the school I teach at was the highlight of my trip. From a fellow historian to another, great job, and I look forward to the future of gaming historian!

You were probably the third channel I ever discovered on RU-vid and actually one of my first inspirations. I am glad we have become friends. Maybe one day I can reach your level. Also, you owe me a collab. P.s. You should have been shirtless in this video and not acknowledge it. Also, glad I never unsubbed.

I've been enjoying your content for a few weeks now, watching it when I need a distraction from the boring household task I'm doing. I never Subscribe to things because I don't see the point. But hearing your story and what it means to have subscribers, you can add another to the list. Your content is great and I have loved gaming since I was 3. I pride myself on knowing more than the average person about game history. And I learn mounds every time I watch your videos. Thanks buddy I really hope the best for you and your family.

So I'm about 3 years late to this video. I only just found your channel 2 weeks ago and instantly subbed after watching your Tetris documentary. But I found that even with the lesser production value of your initial works, they're still engaging and informative. You're definitely a natural born teacher. I'm a fellow history nerd and have been wanting to make amateur documentaries for a while. Your channel has really inspired me to be OK with choosing small topics and not chase after being Ken Burns right away. I'm really happy you found someone who loves and supports you in your work. You seem like a great guy and I'm always happy to see good people able to chase their dream. Thank you for putting so much of yourself into these videos.
