Robert Burns's lyrical descriptions about Scotland's gold-bubbling fountains may have been an exaggeration, but gold was mined in Scotland since the middle ages. Scotland even experienced its own gold rush in 1869. This two-part video gives an overview of the history of gold exploration and mining in Scotland. The two videos are a summary of a longer talk I gave at the Scottish Geology Festival in 2022, the recording of the talk is available at • Gold occurrences and h...

I am enjoying your videos. Quite professional & educational in content. You are pleasantly articulate...rather uncommon in the science world. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

You need to do a couple on gold mining in Wales. There are Roman Gold mines to look at. .

RU-vid doesn't usually allow links - but I 'll send this to you - your relaxed laid back delivery is very similar to Michael Charlton as you relate Geology to Economy - you are probably familiar with this documentary series - it's from 1985 - like yours you can go to sleep to them - there are 7 episodes and again yours are 'in the same vain' so to speak the way you include a more technical description of the minerals and chemistry Out of the Fiery Furnace - Episode 1 - From Stone to Bronze ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4vDDMYyhLBw.html

@@ourmetallicearth Episode #2 is very good - they are not as chemically or geologically as in depth as yours and have allot more resources to work with in their production - but it's the outdoor sounds and worldly places that is the same -- thanx so much for the reply

I'm a bit lost - what about the enormous land or terrain that does not have 'out crops' to see anything or detect 'gold' - all that green grass covered stuff - couldn't there be gold under there ? it seems like a needle in a hay stack if there is cause you can't just rip up everything looking for it but it is fascinating to think that somewhere in there is tons of gold if you just knew where which I guess is where you guys come in to correlate data and be more logical about where to explore

Drilling is the usual way to investigate the country rock for gold deposits, also geochemical surveys, soil surveys and panning can give good indications of mineral / gold occurence, however I think you're asking are there massive gold veins hidden under layers of country rock and the answer is probably yes, but if you can't find it, you can't ask an investor to give you money to mine it and no one especially the planners are going to start ripping off the topsoil and quarrying on nothing more than a desire to find the motherload - you need a convincing story supported by evidence to allow an investor to decide to put their money into your project rather than leaving it in the bank to earn interest.
