In this Hmongstory 40 documentary, Mao Thao speaks about the history and origins of Hmong Farming and the growth of the Hmong community of Fresno beginning in the early 1980s. She talks about her late husband, Karleng Cherta Farms and the role he played as an early pioneer of farming the rich soil of the Central Valley.
Today, many Hmong farm in Fresno county. This is a very important historic documentary explains the draw of farming that lead so many families (who were newly refugees to America), to leave their sponsors in other states and journeyed to Fresno to make it the largest single city of more than 40,000 hmong at its peak.

I stumbled on this video....I clearly remember this older couple dropping off Chinese broccoli in Fresno with my mom. Uncle Galeng was an incredible man with a strong vision. Growing up in Fresno & Watching my parents and all the Hmong parents work so hard, was a strong motivator for me. Although my career has taken me far away from Fresno, my heart still belongs there. I was in tears watching this video the first time & had to watch it again. Thank you, HmongStory 40 for sharing Uncle & Auntie Galeng's story. Their story is my parent's story!
