@@benvance8726 That doesn't seem to be the case, because if you recall, the zecters basically choose who they want their users to be. I.E. Gatack and TheBee
@@benvance8726 that is the idea yes kivat and it's other relatives are supposed to be well vampire bats that bite and allow fangire to transform well okay they can let full humans transform too but the power of kiva kills full humans kiva only survives because of that cause he's half human his mother was a fangire
I'm Japanese and a huge fan of Kiva, and its interesting hearing your opinion on the show. I feel like the way romance shows are written being different between the west and Japan really shows in the opinion. In the west, a lot of romance stories follow the disney trail so people used to seeing that come in with a lot of expectations based on that. In Japan, romance shows always undergo nitty gritty dynamics that feel too taboo to make into a show, like cheating. Kamen rider kiva does that pretty well (as far as being a Japanese kids show) and also has tragedy elements that are popular in Japan. For those reasons I find kiva deep and that's why I like it. But I understand that its not something western audiences like to see.
As an israeli, while I hadn't watched Kiva yet (due to other shows and things occupying my mind, and Kiva simply not being one of the top priorities), I have watched Marco's review of the different rider seasons for numerous times, Kiva included. I must say, it's interesting to hear a perspective on the romance part of Kiva from a japanese person, as I had no idea that cheating is something that tends to appear in dynamics of japanese roman based shows. i do admit that I too didn't liked how the cheating in the story of Kiva have happened when there is seemingly no reason for it, especially after all the effort that Kiva's dad (sorry, forgot his name, as I hadn't seen this review in some time) did to impress his first love. Besides that however, there are many aspects of Kiva that I really like. The suits look amazing to me, even the ones that Marco didn't liked (I may have a bias towards the snow bat themed Rider, as I'm also a fan of Frozen), and the Fangire designs look both terrifying and beautiful. I wad however a bit sad to hear that Kiva's awesome design suit ment that the actor had to carry A LOT of weight on his body, so I'm glad that they were able to find compromise, even if it means getting a super form rather early on, as the actors' safety is above all in my opinion. My point is, while I may not like the cheating aspect of Kiva's story, I don't think that it should distract from all the good that the show has to offer. Plus, even if Kiva's dad cheated (again, I'm sorry that I'm not calling the characters by their names, I hadn't seen this review in a while, so I forgot their names 😅), he still cared about his son, and I can respect that. I really am glad that you enjoyed Kiva, and I hope to enjoy it too someday...I just hope that I won't get confused from all the time skips 😅.
@Silent_tentacle , I think with platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, I think there is possibility that western audiences could take a liking to kiva and with romance dramas from other countries , including Korea and Japan, people in western countries would have an open mind to other types of romance plots, so I wouldn’t be so worried about the western audiences taste of kiva
i mean, i dont like kiva not cause its japanese based, i dont like it simply cause its not well executed and ive seen and prefer better, most i can point to still being from japan more than the west
I just love Kamen Rider Kiva cause it has almost everything I like: Vampire motif ✅ A bat mascot ✅ Episode titles having something related to music ✅ Catchy OP ✅
I agree. It does have what everybody wanted in a show at the current time. But, with an unbiased and critical standpoint, I think it could've been handled better. I like it, don't get me wrong. But it did have so much untapped potential and was therefore wasted.
I think Kiva was pretty good. Toei must have thought so. He's one of the Riders to remain intact while the others have been defeated in the movies. Give Kiva a little more credit.
his catchprhase is "return that life to god" pretty obvious they were going for a holy knight or paladin kind of vibe. Not to mention that the costume designer stated that the IXA suit was one of the very first created to contrast all the darker colors the other characters use. So yeah. Pretty obvious xD
He said it? I started watching the video now... Damn this phrase is so dumb! I've watched Build, Drive, Gaim, Decade, Kabuto, W, Kuuga and I *loved* Kiva
I love that it's being mentioned in Heisei Generations Forever. If there's going to be a future crossover and Toei got Kouhei Takeda back, I want to see him as both Otoya and Kazumi. They kinda did that with Yuuto Sakurai and Kiriya Kyousuke in Zi-O, though they did not meet face to face.
No offense, but in my opinion Otoya did not "cheat" on Yuri. He was falling in love with Maya while he was dating Yuri, but he did not push the boundaries with Maya beyond seeing her from time to time. There's a difference between cheating on your romantic partner and falling in love with a different person. There was an episode with Jiro calling out Otoya about this and the latter was aware of his actions. Otoya knew he was falling in love with Maya, but knows he cannot break Yuri's heart, showing that he is not perfect in the situation he was in and he knew that, kind of shows this bit of flaw in him when it came to romance. The fact that he remained a couple with Yuri before the Bat Fangire arc shows how much respect he has committed to be with her regardless of his growing feelings for Maya. We had to expect that Otoya and Yuri don't stay together in the end based on how the 2008 side seems to transpire. I just don't think it's fair to judge him in Kiva's second half because he becomes an interestingly flawed character and maybe/sort of deconstructs his womanizing nature from the early episodes, but that's just my analysis.
OverlordBaron Thank you! Meeting up with someone and just talking, and even creating the Bloody Rose together isn’t cheating. And when Yuri realized Otoya was in love with Maya, she was the one to break it off despite Otoya never actually doing anything with Maya past that and initially wanted to still make things work with Yuri despite how he felt about another woman. People have given Otoya way too much shit for this over the years when he doesn’t even deserve it.
Ehhh, I disagree with this.....First off, I just dislike the move in general of having Otoya falling in love with someone else so sudden, when literally almost ALL THE SHOW he's been working towards Yuri. You expect us to just be OK with him throwing away ALL THAT for this new chick that comes along & just looks hot...? And the fact that he falls in love with her simply off her LOOKS, something that shows that he hasn't matured in his romance at all.....You'd think that by now, he'd have learned to get into a woman based on more than that. Second, as a man in a relationship, you shouldn't be so easily willing to go along with some woman you JUST MET, MULTIPLE TIMES, ALONE....as a "friend..." If someone of the opposite sex, who you JUST MET, wants to hang out ALONE with you, MULTIPLE TIMES....Yea, umm, chances are that's no mere "friendship" going on there. I'm just sayin. So, not a good look on Otoya there, is all Imma say. This was one of the huge flaws of Kiva.
@@TheGloryXros the relationship between Otoya and Yuri wasn't going any where to be honest after Yuri confess her feeling to Otoya I felt like that the head writer was pretty done with the Romance between Yuri and Otoya what you said it true about relationship but not every Couple going to stay forever their are some friends in my life who parents didn't feel that love for each other anymore. love is toxic and poison in the end of the story
I see Marcos has never heard of the female rider death curse. If Yui or Megumi became IXA they would have been killed by Rook and caused a time paradox. Also I still think Yaiba is gonna die like Kiriya.
I have a few friends that thanks to Zero-One are getting into Kamen Rider. And when they asked me about other seasons. I mentioned Kiva as it is one of my favorites. And one of their replies "wait it's a Vampire series and one of it's main storylines has a love triangle with a Werewolf monster? So it's Kamen Rider Twilight?"
@@aliastheabnormal The heck??? Where did you get that I liked Ghost? I like the AESTHETICS & MUSIC of Ghost, sure, and I think there were some elements of the story that could've been good....but I don't regard Ghost as a good Series, AT ALL. I don't even regard it as a Series I'd want to rewatch.
@@TheGloryXros I get attacked by so many people that I don't even bother to tell them apart. You are literally just another troll in the crowd that I can mistake for another.
@@aliastheabnormal 1. Way to accuse someone you don't know of something they don't actually believe....and then make an excuse for your ignorance. 2. How is me disagreeing with you "trolling?" You could've been nice about this & just apologized for mistaking me for someone else, but NO, you decide to go off on me regardless??? C'mon.
11:15 The context for Otoya’s dance is that it’s a 4th Wall breaking nod to his actor (Kouhei Takeda) being a former member of the boy band, PureBOYS. The actor of Ixa/Keisuke (Keisuke Kato) was one as well. The dance Otoya and others in the background performed was one of the PureBOYS dance routines.
Hey mate just wanted to say right now I'm stuck doing 12 hour night shifts here in the UK and your videos are keeping me sane. Keep up the good work I love your content
You listen to it once a month? I listen to it until I run it into the run ground and get sick of it until 1 year later where I start the progress all over again
To be honest I feel in love with Kamen Rider for the stories and bonds of the characters I didn't fall in love for the action, or the suits (ex: Fourze-bonds, Build- Story) So don't apologize for your opinion
perfect!! i appreciate this series of vids, really helps me learn about the history of kamen rider. i recently became a fan. my favs are black rx, W, and build so far
While there are many problems with the season, I appreciate you not completely eviscerating the season. But this was way too fast an analysis, you missed a lot of actual story and it seemed you skimmed through a lot. Either that or if you made this assuming that most viewers saw the entire show then it's understandable
a lot of stuf in kiva has the story itself ad objective, and not the plot; puppetguy is memeworthy, but what did he actually do, in the bigger scheme? wataru's rocker friend? the arm monsters shenanigans in the past?
@@serPomiz If you're going to call a video a History of _____, then you should go over things, no matter how pointless it may be, even if it's just a minute of analyzing a character and what they mean for a character's arc, The spider Fangire is important to the story because he helps jump start Mio's transformation into Queen, the past of the Arms Monster is to show how they've grown from past and present, everything is kind of important to the plot, if you think about it, whether it's for the growth of a character or to further the plot along, it should be brought up with some bit of information to it, instead of it being brushed off.
He most likely had to cobble this together very quickly. It was meant to be ghost but he couldn’t get to it, and likely made this to compensate. Not to mention it’s a bias review so he’s going to end up skimming through stuff he hates
@@omegaheartless which goes to say this isn't the history of Kiva. This is Kiva Abridged for when you have Kamen Rider trivia night later and you only have half an hour to prep
Though we might have conflicting views on the show itself, i still appreciate that you made a recap for kiva. I like the story of kiva and the suits. I wish they release another series that would have the balance of a good story line, great suits and a little bit maturity compared to whats being released lately. Strong work!
Kiva is my favorite. You made a GREAT overview, I'm glad you found good in it. I'm sorry you didnt like it as much, but I'm glad you can see its strengths. This show's strengths are so unique from the franchise norm, so I think more non-tokusatsu fans should know about it.
That was a really good review of Kiva. I do have to admit I still haven't seen it, but like Den-O I am happy to see this video first. I going to watch all of Heisei KR but Kiva and Den-O are now bottom of that watch list. Thank you very much for your history of KR videos for they go me into the series in the first place. I am eagerly awaiting the next one, I have a soft spot for Decade ever since I saw him in that W movie.
Ahhh Kiva. The very reason I’m a Kamen Rider fan. Not thanks to the show, but thanks to a henshin compilation. I was watching power rangers vids when I stumbled upon the compilation and saw in awe that this power rangers like series looked amazing. I then saw the fight of decade vs kiva. 10 years later and I’m still here. Thanks to this series. Thanks kiva
as a part of the Japanese Rider scene, “Saishyu Form” is the direct translation of “Final Form”, as Saishyu is japanese for “latest” or “final”. Decade also makes this distinction, but i’m Sure you’ll address it in the History of Decade video
this is why I watch your history vids, you are honest about what you review: "I'm a bit bias as this is my favorite but I'll be fair", "I haven't watched this but these are my thoughts on it", "this isn't good but if you found something you liked from it then I'm glad you could find something to enjoy"; there are not many reviewers that are honest with how they review and it saddens me. then I see your Agito review(I hope to see your revamped/completed review on that on your new platform) and got me interested as I've only watched the first three episodes of Riyugi, OOO, Fourze and Guim before this. your thoughts are what made me want to look up Kuuga, Drive, W, the short run of Hibiki(its a shame that it only has 29 episodes and a movie but its great reguardless of that massive cliff hanger) and even a few Sentais as well. you bring up the high points, the weak points, why it might appeal, the humor, the story/plot, how it could have worked better, why it does work, the music to look up, what the best episode/special that season has that's worth looking up or to look forward to, the design of the suits, "A brand new toy"(I do hope when you get to Decade you say "A brand new card/booster pack"), back story of why this happened, plot breakdown my final thoughts: you are awesome and without you I wouldn't have watched Lambo Carisin, ProtoDubs, ideas of how to rework the more Faulty parts of some shows and to spark interest. *hug* I look forward to more from you and your team
Every kamen rider season have their own unique experience and thing that appeals to different people. It's okay if someone doesn't prefer or rather disappointed to the season, it's the same for every kamen rider season. I, you or everyone else have our own opinion and preference to everything and it's okay to dislike a season.
Why are you apologizing for your own opinions? People are here for your opinions, not lining up with fan favorites makes your take unique, does it not? Have faith in your own thoughts. I absolutely love IXA and Saga by the way.
in this day and age, opinions get easilly confused with incorrect reading of situation. politics, science, arvhitecture, writing; some firmly believe that an opinon is worth the very same regardless from the know how of who developed it how it interacts with the real word. I've seen people try to mix bleach and vinegar so they could clean up faster, and called out how their opinion is as valid as mine, but are the ones with the chemicals so they should decide
20:28,more like Nago had a LOT of time to develop from being a cold and heartless jerk to becoming one who needs to understand that there are people who needs protecting and Kiva's been doing that. After realizing that Wataru is Kiva,he understood that not every Fangire was bad. 21:10,I was thinking the same thing and think that the movie was just a cliffnotes of what's to come minus the cool Kamen Rider Arc. 24:10,guess he wanted Taiga's hatred for his brother to skyrocket and try to have Taiga distance himself away from his brother whom he considers a threat to the Fangire cause. Also,Dark Kiva is one of the instances where the dark Rider ISN'T connected to the main character but more of an authority and ultimate evil who rules over the armies of monsters at his disposal and wiping out any opposition he claims disgusting. Also, you don't need to apologize. I love Kiva and I feel like the story is just getting started after the finale since there's a lot to go from there. Your opinion's yours alone and its good to hear someone's opinion of something they don't like in earnest. Also...Decade....good luck.
No need to apologize for not liking the show, i like kiva, the romance was a bit over done, otoya just leaving yuri was dirty and the ending wasn't the best, but i still enjoyed it, and you have the right to say what you feel about it, i personally don't mind and no one should be upset about your opinions. Anyway, decade was my first rider show and one of my favorites dispite all of it's flaws, can't Wait to see History of Kamen rider decade!
For me, Kiva was my first KR series ever. A friend showed me clips of the older seasons when Den-O was airing, but I was still not interested as I was still in a PR brainrot. But after RPM ended, I wanted more but I didn't know where to look. So imagine my surprise when my friend who showed me the clips, was telling me about the next upcoming KR season that year. And all it took for me to be intrigued was the fact he told me the powers were based off of the classic movie monsters. The moment I heard that, I knew I had to check it out. And after tons of digging around (back in late 2007) I found someone who was uploading KR seasons and eps and waited for Kiva's subbed ep to drop. And first episode of Kiva was all it took for me to not only love Kamen Rider, but become the fan I am today. Kiva holds a very special place in my heart as it was the series to get me into watching KR. So while many may dislike it for many reasons (all of which is their own opinion). For me? I love Kiva and adore it because without it, I wouldn't be the fan I am today.
"I've seen so many people say that they don't watch Showa-Era season because they're too old" Forgive my blunt approach, but that is a pathetic reason. That's like people not wanting to watch old movies "because they're in black and white" (which I've seen people say before).
It is a poor excuse, but I think people just need to be eased into older series. It's pretty jarring to just jump into one. If there was a good list or way to ease into older shows/movies people might give older entertainment a try more. I am slowly working on Heisei riders only. I am on Kuuga and it is very different, but I think I can sit through it. I remember once I tried watching a really old tennis anime, I think it was called Attack 44 or something, but it was extremely jarring and I had to stop. It wasn't the worse thing I have watched just the formatting and pacing were too different for me. It's like trying to watch RU-vid videos from 2010 compared to now.
I have watched Tos, V3, X, Amazon, Stronger and Skyrider complete and i‘m on episode 40 Super-1.. The old Kamen Rider Shows were Hella amazing and underrated in my opinion.. I even think that the Crossovers/Team Ups between the Riders were epic. I prefered Tos(1971) and V3 and how they got involved in his introduction and saved his life by turning him into V3.. The X Team Ups were amazing aswell.. Some of them are even a bit better than todays team ups
Jeffery Tang well they didn’t use Kouhei Takeda either. He was coming off Build, they could’ve had him do something for the Kiva finale with his character being the next Kiva.
I will continue to love Kiva due too the fact that Kiva was my gateway to Kamen Rider in general. I still remember when I was looking up Super Sentai for the first time It talked about Kamen Rider. I had zero Idea at the time what Kamen Rider was so I started looking up I found videos being shared on Facebook and the current Kamen Rider at the time was Kiva I watched it and fell in love with it I thank Kiva for everything.
Man I loved kiva mainly for it’s story I love time changing theme how they sort of set up stuff in the past. I also like how they have the classic movie monster power ups. I also really like the music in season. I also really like the suit designs
Kiva had the absolute best sound track. This was my first kamen rider series and it made me fall in love. The suit designs are incredible. All the riders look great. So do the fangire. I loved everything about this series
Kiva is one of the most important riders to me because of how wise and knowing he was.......in Decade.....I'm not kidding. Wataru " creation can not begin without destruction" to me that means bad things happen so things can get better.
Honestly, you have a lot of different opinions from me in terms of suit design and moments you like from different series but I really enjoy hearing your opinions on things. I really dig your enthusiasm for tokusatsu and sometimes you sway my opinion on certain elements of a series. But man.. You gotta stop apologizing so much in your videos lol. You're never gonna make everyone happy so no need to say sorry for not liking or even hating a fan favorite. These retrospectives are AWESOME dood and weither you dislike what I like or not I'm hear for the video regardless. Keep it up!!
kinda appropriate this would come out today considering i've read online kiva is short for king of the vampires title wise that is then again they probably planned this
Kiva’s one of my absolute faves. I absolutely loved its zipper narrative flashing back and forth in time between Wataru, and his dad Otoya. And Otoya is my fave protag. Dude is an absolute dumbass, badass, and GAR AF! I also loved watching Wataru develop over the series. The music was absolutely incredible… and Kiva’s suit is my absolutely fave.
I cant be mad that you didn't like Kiva, all I can say is, thanks for giving it a shot and sticking through to the end regardless of how you felt about it.
I think Kiva needs to be given a little more credit. I personally thought Kiva was pretty good. Kiva has my favorite suit of the Heisei Era behind Kuuga. IXA looks freaking awesome, Dark Kiva looked very menacing and Saga had a nice dynamic between him and Kiva. I also loved that there was a music theme for this season. I'm a piano player (I know it's not the same thing but its music nonetheless).
I love how Kiva allies are based on Castle transylvania characters. Kiva is dracula, Ixa is the Protag, and the others are wolfman, Merman and Frankenstein's monster respectively.
what a perfect day to post this. kiva as a show is my least favorite that ive seen, but i mainly watched it for the suits, music, and action because i thought they were all near perfect. and thats the beauty of a fandom like this, i love seeing other peoples opinions and hearing how they feel about something like this. its totally understandable that the suits and music arent really your thing and its always just a lot of fun hearing other peoples thoughts on the matter
As per a friend, it is said that Kiva is the point where Toshiki Inoue is already burnt out (at least with Faiz, he is already getting there but was still trying); much like Yasuko Kobayashi was in ToQGer. I haven’t watched Kiva, but I can already see the story is pretty confusing (but that won’t stop me from watching Kiva, though. Haha.). And about Mio, yeah, it’s Toshiki Inoue we are talking about, so yeah…..
I know this video is a year old, however I've been searching for the Castlevania sounding Kiva song for over a year, does anyone have any idea what the name of it is?
