The twist of fate that allowed this car to avoid becoming one of the 300 + that were destroyed is so compelling it could be made into a Hollywood movie.
In my opinion (which you never asked for by the way) the Georgia cars made it seem more down home, like it was filmed in a small town. The California filming had more of a studio feel.
Such a cool history lesson, on one of my favorite TV cars. I posted a short video of a diorama showing the GL’s first jump front of Seney Hall. One of my favorite TV shows as a kid in the 80’s. I hope you watch the video.
I remember John Schneider saying that to make it seem that the General Lee's doors were welded shut, he said that they locked the doors, and removed the locks off the doors so when he and Tom got in through the windows, they wouldn't hit their backs on the door locks
Funny enough in "days of shine and roses", the season 2 opener, you see Tom Wopat get in through an off screen open door and hear the door close 🤣🤣🤣 The expression on John's face is hilarious he's like "uh, we're supposed to climb through the windows, remember?" It's during the scene where they are moving the barricade during the race.
What a stunning General Lee and a fascinating story surrounding it. Am I correct in saying that the first 6 generals were painted at H & H body shop in in Georgia?
Very cool General Lee. I wonder if any original Hazzard County Sheriff cars still exist or other Dukes vehicles, Uncle Jesse's Ford pickup, Daisy's Jeep etc.?
It was supposed to be named "Traveller" after Gen Robert E Lee's horse, but the name was considered too obscure to anyone outside "The South". In the movie "Moonrunners" the race car was named for Lee's horse.
You said it had to have been built between December 1 of 1978 and November 24 of 1979. I'd assume it had to have been built no later than late December of 78 if they started production in California after the Christmas break. Otherwise, they'd have had no reason to build another car to use in Georgia.
Speculation was that it was built during the Christmas break but at the time the video was made, that was the timeframe we could document. Since then it’s been confirmed by the original builders that the car was built during the Christmas break before they learned production was moving to CA
Better have people sign an extra waiver or put that car in a back room so as not to offend people these days with seeing a Confederate flag in person 🙄 It is great u have such an early run of that car 👏👍🏻
That car is never used in the tv show that the car Don Schisler built for it his son. I Ask Don it about it.. cool it maybe was used on the show if they never had moved to calfi
That car is an obvious fake! You can clearly tell that is not KITT from Knight Rider. Come on, it’s not even a Trans Am! Hahaha! Wow, what an awesome score! Always loved the General Lee. We actually just saw one at the Hollywood Cars museum in Vegas. The car is gutted on the inside and they claim it is an actual jump car from the series. Regardless, it was cool to just see it.
@@VoloMuseum aha, so they were telling a half truth. Good to know. Very nice car even still. The only disappointing thing was, it was parked too close to the wall and they scraped the passenger quarter panel.
Car was never used in the series! Volo has tons of replicas they claim are real and they are the only ones who put decals on the doors with the actors name on them like ppl don't know who the actors were etc smh
i was a teenager in the 80s and i never wanted that car.i like the 69 charger and the paint job but not with the decals the 01 or the confederate flag just makes the car look stupid
