I own one, and love it dearly, easily one of the best gas mask the USSR ever made! It was used by rocket fuelers (ICBMs and Nukes and such, as well as normal rockets) Of course the cold war never went hot so it never lived up to its "full potential" and use. But another cool thing: It was also used by snipers and artillery crews! The eye pieces are made specifically for looking through optics

I completely agree. Even though I can't just blatantly encourage public to rely on old respirators, I find the PRV-U quite competent on many levels.

Great video as always. Although not used by Czechoslovakian Army to my knowlage, think it would be great if next would be PBF, maybe even a video about gasmasks with internal filters in general - there ups sides and down sides. 🙏

Hi there! The PRV-U wasn't really "used", that's what the M10 and M10m were for. However, there were rocket fueling units and even an army handbook of Czech army from 2008 still mentions PRV-U and how to use it! PBFs aren't really common around here, but sure, it is a nice idea for future History of NBC Units video

@@cbrnacademy You can get PBF easily from Polish internet shop called 'Frontowiec', got mine from there and it came in quite good shape for a older soviet gasmask with bag and rest of stuff for it although they have only smaller sizes now. Thank you for providing really cool info, can't wait to watch more!

That is wierd because my grandpa served in czechoslovak army with rocket unit in the 70's and he told that they used this exact gas mask.

@@Soviet_History05 i don't know what to tell you men, i saw few videos of East Germany using PBF as well. That gasmask is an anomaly in it self

This is actually a 💀KING AMONG ASBESTOS FILTERS 💀 Instead of a few fibers in the particle layer GP-5 kiddos are so proud of, the inner filling of EO-65 is filled with it, lol

Good question! It was PRV-U and the gas mask for people with head wound.

PRVU/SHMS was made only in 1 2 and 3 size. theres no 0 or 4

Hi there, this is the direct excerpt from an army manual describing how to use the PRV-U: "A tailor's tape measure can be used to measure the circumference of your head. The size of the vertical circumference up to 655 mm corresponds to mask size 1, from 655 to 680 mm to size 2, from 680 to 690 mm to size 3 and above 690 mm to size 4.
@Andrei9thouzen
@Andrei9thouzen 2 месяца назад
@@cbrnacademy Only “gp5“ PBF and PMG were made in size 4. I have soviet chart with the sizing of each mask.
@cbrnacademy
@cbrnacademy 2 месяца назад
@@Andrei9thouzen Alright, I understand the confusion now. I went extra mile to obtain a Russian handbook where it's clearly stated the mask (ШМС) was made in four sizes, specifically 0, 1, 2, 3. The sizing info I posted before came from a Czech army manual and the sizing numbers are clearly wrong. Anyway, four sizes.
@Test148real
@Test148real 10 дней назад
@@cbrnacademy Bro Shcms Mask has 3 sizes for real, just like shm-41m and mm-1 masks, the sizes are the same as gp-7 or pmk-1, pmk-2, pmk-3.

I don't want to sound like I'm being mean but I don't know a better way to ask. Do you have any qualifications to be teaching NBC survival or are you just a hobbyist with a good amount of knowledge?
@cbrnacademy
@cbrnacademy 3 месяца назад
One complements the other I'm state-licensed to teach the topic of civil defense in Slovakia yet my interest goes beyond that so I decided to teach people the basics of CBRN protection online. Thus, this channel.

@@cbrnacademy ahhh. Thank you for the free education. What's that orange thing on your fm12 or s10 I forgot what one btw?
@cbrnacademy
@cbrnacademy 3 месяца назад
@@NBC_noob the read outserts for FM12? Red outserts are basically older generation of the currently used "blueblocker" outserts which, as the name suggests, filter out blue light wavelengths to deliver a sharper image by highlighting contrast between light and shadows. Red lenses are usually used in sport sunglasses and are commonly available.

@@cbrnacademy nononno in your video on preparation of safe water you have an orange speech horn. I wondered why or what purpose it served
@cbrnacademy
@cbrnacademy 3 месяца назад
@@NBC_noob There are different primary speech module covers for easy recognition of the wearer underneath, for example ranks among police. The yellow one as far as I'm aware was meant for police commanders. I also have black, red and white ones. We'll talk about those more in our Avon FM12 review ;)
