Regarding the Ted Bundy portion of this, I have a story to share. My mother grew up at the corner of V street and Brainerd. She was playing in a field to the west of Friendship Missionary Baptist (formerly Brownsville Baptist) just minutes from home on the day before Bundy was apprehended. A white good looking man in a yellow Volkswagen Beetle pulled up to her and asked for help. She could not hear him, so she moved closer to see that his passenger seat was missing. He opened the door and lunged to grab her but she screamed and ran. The youth pastor of Brownsville Baptist was outside near the church and ran toward her. She was lucky, she got away. Not knowing who this man was, my grandpa, the youth pastor, and several others got their guns and drove around looking for this man. The next day, when he was apprehended at Oscars in the same car, they realized just how close my mom came to a horrible fate.
Just wanted to say I really like what you are doing. A lot of crazy history that I didn't know about my city, it's really cool to see the then and now photos too.
I want to thank you for bringing light to things like this. History isn't something to be forgotten no matter how bad it gets and it lets people see the amount of change the world has experienced since then.
Also wanted to add my thanks. The first of these crept up on my Facebook feed some time ago and I've followed them since. I appreciate the time you put into these, Holden, and I'm always impressed to see such good quality work coming out of our city. Thanks again!
Haha as someone who lives just a few blocks from Oscars, you have nothing to fear during daylight hours. It can get a little spooky at night tho. Great video!
We actually had a really hard time filming there because of the people all around us. There was some domestic dispute or something going on down the road that was getting really loud. You can even hear some of it in the video. So yeah, I was ready go go, haha.
My Granny grew up in Holley Fl. East of Pensacola. Born in 1902. She told me stories of hangings that would take place downtown in Seville Square. The only transportation to Pensacola from Holley was by steam or sailboat.
Maybe one day you can tell everyone our super star athletes that came out of Pensacola. There’s a lot of them too. Great videos thx for sharing. Time for a bushwhacker on the beach 👍🏻
While working at the Escambia County Jail 1978, I placed BUNDY in a solitary cell,he was finishing his court case before being taken east,he was a rabbit,he had a leg brace.I looked in on him ,he was studying the light fixture in his cell. The face of a true monster.
As someone who has lived here all their life (23 years), it's amazing to see another side to the city I lived 30 minutes from and recently discovering due to having a car and plenty of time thanks to Uber/Lyft.
@spaceman101 @maggiemay 59 This couldn't be any more further from the truth. Gulf Breeze and its neighbor Pensacola Beach, have a storied history dating back to the 18th century. In fact before the current city of Pensacola was constructed, Pensacola was actually on present day Pensacola Beach. This was from roughly 1722 - 1752. It consisted of houses, a fort, church, and one road down the middle of it. Later in the 1700s, the town currently known as Gulf Breeze became the first federal tree farm. A man by the name of Henry Breckenridge lived there, along with 20 slaves and their slave owner Samuel (forget his last name), and their wood helped make many US naval ships, before they were constructed of steel. And of course there is the history of Fort Pickens, and all the other forts in the area.

If you watched the documentary, you'd know the filmmaker actually convinced FDLE to search the area where blacks were allegedly buried, including cadaver dogs. However, nothing was found - no clothing, no bones, nothing. The man with that story was known to pull your leg with his stories, and the filmmaker's was pulled!
Love it but.. Although informative the fact that the voice over suffers from clarity and the music is as loud as the narration makes it a noble effort but for me falls short on its capability to clearly convey. Any chance to improve?
If you are going to do a documentary get your facts right Ted Bundy was not apprehended at Oscar's, officer David Lee followed him from there and he was stopped at W and Cross Street and ran on foot from the officer about one block and was apprehended and hand cuffed to a fence at V and Cross Street (the fence is still right there in the same spot) about 200 feet from my house, I know because I was home that night and remember being woken up by all the commotion. After all these years I still sometimes think about that, especially late at night when I look over to that corner.
You bring up the Masonic Temple. But failed to go into depth on that building. I mean if you're going to go in dark history of Pensacola. Idk how you could easily make a hr video. Just on it's crazy insistences.
Spit my drink "....lotta trees." I had no idea Ted Bundy was arrested in our town, but Oscars isn't that bad of an area.... during the day. I helped open and worked that Walgreens, and T&W Flea Market has been my weekend event since I was a child 25 years ago.
I'm a light-skinned Puerto Rican, I came to Pensacola Florida in 1977 and 1978 with my two your old daughter. This explains a lot I didn't know all the history, however we didn't deserve what happened to us there struggling, the two of us went hungry every day besides all the other dramatic things that happened. It wasn't my war I didn't want no part of it. I have been back since and it appears that it did change at least I hope so for the sake of others. No one deserves that kind of life especially the innocent.
Have you done anything on the Gould in the late,1950's?? I don't think he, she or they were ever caught. Roomer had it that it was a military man who got transferred. Easy way to solve a crime
We so very much love 💗 LOVE 💕 LOVE ❤️ all your videos, but please, lay off all the racial tension video stoking. Up until Obama popped up like a piece of toast, our Nation was soooooooo much better off racial wise.
