Felix, back in 2013, was the reason I got into speedcubing. I remember sitting in my 7th grade class and my English teacher showing the class Felix's world record video. I didn't know about speedcubing until that day. My first speedcubing battle was between me and another kid during lunch that 7th grade year. I got 32 seconds, and he got 38 seconds.

For me My mind is taken back to Mats 5.55 whenever I think of the WR. I remember 11 year old me in January 2015 in awe watching that solve as it was the WR when I started cubing, and even now whenever I see a solve faster than 5.55 I think about how far the record has come. Crazy to think just how many times that time is broken in 2023 but just 8 years ago there was no solve faster.

For me it is Feliks Zemdegs 4.73. I thought it still was the world record until I found it today that it was a 3.13. My mind was blown, because I genuinely thought that the 4.73 was nearly unbeatable

its also bc, cubes have been much better. if feliks had gotten a cube at this time, but still had his young age, he could beat parks. Easy in any competition

ig it's good for cubing to keep getting faster, but damn it's also sad seeing Feliks being the last non Asian holding the 3x3 wr and witnessing the Feliks era being a past I mean it would be really awesome if Feliks did a comeback even for the last time and making a sub 3 3x3 single but to be realistic, it's quite impossible since aften becoming adult, fingers get a bit slower and ig Feliks must have tried really hard for breaking the wr after Yusheng

feliks is the goat, he is the reason cubing is where it is. he broke the 7 and 6 second barrier no one has nearly as many world records as he does and no one dominated cubing for as long as he did. Nowadays sure there are younger faster cubers, but feliks from 2010 to 2017 was pretty much the only top dog outside of mats valk, and even then feliks survived him as well. Felik's probably would own all the records now if the cubes that are here now were made back then.
