The origins of the name Sabah are uncertain, and several theories have emerged. One theory suggests that during its time as part of the Sultanate of Brunei, it was referred to as Saba due to the presence of various types of bananas called "pisang saba" (also known as cooking bananas), which were extensively cultivated along the region's coast and popular in Brunei. The Bajau community referred to it as "pisang jaba." Due to local dialect, the word Saba was pronounced as Sabah by the local population. During Brunei's submission to Majapahit, the poem in Old Javanese Nagarakretagama described the area that is now Sabah as Seludang.
Meanwhile, although the Chinese have been associated with the island of Borneo since the Han Dynasty, they did not have specific names for the region. Instead, during the Song Dynasty, they referred to the entire island as Po Ni (also pronounced as Bo Ni), which was the same name they used to refer to the Sultanate of Brunei at that time. Due to Sabah's proximity to Brunei, it has been suggested that Sabah is a Brunei Malay word meaning "upstream" or "northward." Another theory suggests that it originated from the Malay word "sabak," meaning a place where coconut sugar is produced. Sabah (صباح) is also an Arabic word meaning "morning."
The existence of multiple theories makes it difficult to determine the true origin of the name. It is nicknamed the "Land Below the Wind" because the state is located below the typhoon belt of East Asia and is rarely affected by typhoons, except for occasional tropical storms.

The agreement is ligitimate like the agreement of China ang UK to Hongkong, which was returned to China on 1999. It is because the Philippines is not a superpower like China.. as usual the British Empire denied the agreement and fooled Malaysian to believe that they own the land instead of returning the land from the rightful owner.

The native of Sabah never agreed to sulu sultanate scam agreement of 1878. Sabah native never accept sulu sultanate rule before that. They owned the land for themselves. Sulu sultanate just claim the land.

Well u know the oldest idahan jawi manuscript the very first local language written at 1408M. It show a man convert into islam religion and change his name into Abdullah. The same descendents who found bird nest in the all east cave. The Abdullah also known as the cave king. U can see the story of paduka betara from sulu(east king) tomb at china on 1417M. The story show paduka betara(east king) with two other muslim king Maharaja kolamanting(west king) and Paduka prabhu(cave king and also brother in laws paduka betara). Under diplomatic purpose with china the three king went to china. But then the sulu king fell ill and died on 1417 at china, until know the tomb of paduka betara still exist. The paduka prabhu(cave king from borneo) is the same person in the jawi manuscript idahan that changed his name into Abdullah in lahad datu,sabah. The same lahad datu district of lembah masuli that has old archeology artifact that ages around 235 thousand showed in this video. The gua gomantong also owned by the idahan people but then the old local story said there is war between british. They managed to claim the gomantong cave from idahan people.

Does the name SABAH come from bananas or does the name Sabah bananas come from the state where bananas grow lushly?...the name SABAH remains a topic of discussion either casually or even more seriously at a higher academic level. There is a type of banana called "Pisang Melaka" in Sabah which is famous among Bruneian Malays who reside in Sabah, it is a type of banana that is very suitable as an adhesive for food called "KUBAL", Kubal is made from sago grains that are processed in a sieve which is then dried, these sago grains when fried without oil are mixed with a mixture of coconut flakes known as ('katupang'). Kubal grains that are not sticky at first are kneaded with Melaka bananas that are ripe enough to form balls before eating. Kubal is the original food of the Bruneian Malays, especially in Sabah, I am not sure if this kubal is also a favorite and known food by other tribes in Sabah. If the cooking process is done more perfectly so that it is crisp enough the kubal can last for more than 1 month, it is always brought as a food supply by fishermen looking for fish or looking for small shrimp called 'geragau' or known as _bubuk_ among local fishermen, the kubal is also brought as a food supply into the forest by fishermen when they are looking for wood that will be used as material to make their boats. Fishermen in the past only depended on wind energy as a way to move their boats, the power obtained from the wind using the sail screen would take their boats to their destination by using a piece of cloth or a type of mat made of pandan leaves that grow a lot around the village and bush. Usually the fishermen already know where is the right place for them to find fish. The fishermen were only guided by the stars in the sky if they sailed at night because in those days there was no compass and map that could be used as a guide

When you want to insure a safe passage in eastern Sabah but ended up making an agreement for the lease of Sabah!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 This is how you make the British so stupid???
@AvtarSinghHistory
@AvtarSinghHistory 10 месяцев назад
Because when the europeans had the opportunity to purchase Sabah in 1878 during the Moro-Spanish war, the negotiations were assisted by William Cowie who had a business relationship with the Sultan of Sulu and to avoid long negotiations, they went ahead and signed the agreement to ceed Sabah. If you look at the actual agreement, the Sultan of Sulu claimed only a small area on the east coast of Sabah and not the entire Sabah. This narrative tends to get ignored or misunderstood even today by almost everyone because of the Sulu heir narratives they own all of Sabah. They can't seem to read english or jawi apparently.
@dongnavarz4608
@dongnavarz4608 10 месяцев назад
@@AvtarSinghHistory You don't get my point!!! If the British needs protection from the pirates, is there any reason to make an agreement for a lease of Sabah? Secondly, Sabah was not ceded by Sulu Sultan to the British. The Brunei agreement with Mr. Overbeck can be a reference into it. Brunei agreement with Mr Overbeck , was a cede and the term they used on that agreement was not pajak or pajakan. Therefore, pajak or pajakan was not a grant or cede. Aside, the Spanish linguist translated "pajak or pajakan " as " ARRENDAMIENTO which means lease. Take note, that translation was made on the very same year the agreement of Sulu and Mr. Overbeck was made. That translation was also not intended to anything else but only on that particular agreement . By the way, in what year did the grant or cede idea came to surface?
@annoyedsabahan
@annoyedsabahan 10 месяцев назад
@@dongnavarz4608 No, I don't think you understand simple history. If you made any effort to actually study the history of North Borneo, it is clearly explained why they signed the agreement with the Sultan of Brunei and Sulu. And we have also read the North Borneo Chartered Company documents whereby Alfred Dent also explains to the board of directors & shareholders why the grants of 1877 and 1878 were signed with 2 sultans. I strongly suggest less complaining here and trying to actually read books on history for a change.
