i had an rs673 in the late 80s. i loved that deck. was one of my faves and i've had nak,aiwa,tascam etc. had a few 3 heads along the way. using a jvc kd-v6 nowadays as i had one in the 90s and stumbled across a working one cheap and local last year.

Hi, great video. I bought an RS BX501 about 7 years ago, after remembering my mate had one in 1995. I had a Denon, and liked his powered tape drawer. Also the BX601 was a 3 head unit not 2.

I think I've refurbished so many Technics machines to be on par with an authorized service center. It is by measure my favorite brand throughout the years to service... one of the easiest to change the belts on, get the transports out and do extensive maintenance.

All tape types seem to be listed as type I, II & III yet the frequency usually shows the frequency response as 'xx (Metal Tape)' Let's take the BX707 as an example. This also says a 2 head where in big friendly letters in the picture show 3 head. The TR313 says it's a single deck when it's a double. This sort of thing is repeated throughout. Puts the accuracy of of the rest of the specifications in doubt.

I had one. 230 V (not so easy to find) and in MINT condition. Then it got stolen. Now I can't find another one with that voltage and all the other ones I see are way too expensive. One sold for $2200 on evilBay a couple of years ago, NIB. I am not paying that much for a cassette deck!

Unfortunately, I found a lot of specifications on the Internet where most of them are written the same, so I was guided by their specifications, that's why I wrote below in the description below the video to point out the errors where they are in the video description. It is very difficult to find all the specifications for the many devices that have been released over time, and of course it takes a lot of time and effort to make something like this video.

i have 3 Cassette decks...one of them is a Technics...it's the RS-B10 single deck budget model...often match paired with the SU-Z150 Amplifier...i switched to my twin deck Kenwood a while ago after belt changes...also have a Sony twin that constantly needs attention...so it never gets used...and yes...i do use whichever is connected...not just dust collectors...occasionally...when you have so many formats...the choice is endless...we only had LP's / Cassettes and radio in my youth...no-one i knew bothered with 8track...not in London...reel to reel was popular though...i had one once...ancient thing ...old when i got it...i don't bother with LP's for decades now...i have several Minidisc pocket devices...love that format more than CD's...and nearly 10 years ago i added cheap Bush MP3 USB /SD mini deck modified to fit in my triple stack...ideal for me...far from Audiophile equipment HiFi as you can get...but i like it...better than Boombox quality...i have that too of course...i like these oldie tech revisits...they keep telling us it's all obsolete...i answer it's not till i say so...
@m80116

The RS-B10... I believe that should stand as an example of how a basic deck should be designed. It's a very sweet machine to use with cue and review, servo assisted keys and a beautiful full transparent door. It also sounds well as it looks.

@@m80116..I should swap back to it by the end of this year...the Kenwood KX-4020 has been in use for many months now...the Technics is the quietest and i bought it locally from a retro HiFi store Audio Gold that is quite well known to enthusiasts across London and South East England..their stock is enormous and much of it expensive of course..I have actually donated more components to their dealership than I have bought from them..I'm not really a HiFi enthusiast..I like reliable and convenient..my stack of backup components (spare amp/spare cassette decks/spare CD deck/spare tuners..is enough..only my Sony Twin cassette deck is the one that takes my attention..I can't get both decks good enough to the standard i'd be satisfied with..nowhere near the other 2..

It's mind boggling that after all the years of engineering that went into these decks, only "4" could produce "20Hz - 20kHz" with "normal" formulation tape(and before the ear experts chime in about how no one can hear 20kHz, I guess there was no need for Chrome or Metal tape then either..) also after 1991 it seemed the sound deteriorated back to the beginnings. Technics needed to just stick to Turntables.
@m80116
@m80116 19 дней назад
Ask yourself why Nakamichi did use a custom equalization that nobody else used. Most ears wouldn't be able to tell a a single 16 kHz tone recorded on a cassette at -20dB, that's why most brands didn't even bother reaching those highs.

@@tobiaszpasterski481 You have no idea what you're talking about. You're comparing dedicated single deck machines with one of the finest and most convenient double deck machine ever designed. I've owned and serviced several of the machines you mentioned. Also... a double deck it's not about reaching new highs but having convenience like double recording, quick reverse, full remote control open and closing, tape program search, 3 point automatic tape calibration with fine BIAS control. You barely find these features singularly in other double deckers.

Аппараты от техникс тоже стоили далеко не дешево в сравнении с Радиотехникой. А Маяк 011 - вообще имел отношение сигнал/шум 80 db. Очень редко даже из этого списка какой аппарат обладал такой характеристикой.
